At the time, we didn't know it was all they'd need, but it sure felt good!
How long will this stay up? IDK...

I was 28 and my brother and I were sitting four rows back, upper deck on the third base side. I had a feeling the whole game that the Braves were going to "steal defeat from the jaws of victory" like they always did. Dave Justice said, "I don't think so". When he hit that homer, the only run Glavine needed, a 300 lb black lady sitting behind me, bear hugged me an lifted me up in the air and screamed, "We are going to win, baby!" It was awesome and I will never forget it!

Always seemed like David Justice was too "Hollywood" for the Braves' liking - he was a guy not afraid to stir the pot and the Braves didn't go for that stuff in those days. They liked the quiet types who just went about their business without a lot of noise which is why they got rid of guys like him and Deion. But you wonder if that was a smart move considering their teams from 1997-2005 often seemed like emotionless zombies in the postseason compared to other teams.
@spinner9057
@spinner9057 7 жыл бұрын
Justice went on to win one more World Series title with the 2000 Yankees. He was a solid contributor too, hitting three homers and driving in 12 runs during that season's playoffs. He was also the MVP of the ALCS. I'd say he got the better end of the deal in a way.

The Braves had five outfielders heading into '97 so something had to give. They had Grissom, Justice, Andruw, Dye, and Klesko. Justice and Grissom were the most expensive. That's probably why they were traded. If you want to blame someone for Justice leaving, blame McGriff. The Braves made a courtesy offer to him. They wanted to move Klesko to first base, but McGriff surprised them when he signed the four year deal.
