Made about two years ago - before anyone ever dreamed of a van halen reunion - this was set to DLR's "Damn Good" and was a look at the classic lineup of Van Halen

This is perhaps the single most underrated, under played and least appreciated song that was swept under the carpet by mainstream radio simply because it wasn't Van Halen. It's ironic in it's timeliness with the passing of Eddie, RIP.

Jan 1989 was going through my brothers music collection just after he passed away and was thinking about this album - particularly this song , couldn't find it among the hundreds of rock and metal cds, albums etc.. about a month or two later I set up his entertainment system in my room , plugged it in , opened the cd drive and there it was, obviously the last album he listened to, I balled like a baby.. he was my best friend and would jam to this song on his guitar at his place before we went out to clubs ( with my fake id) or wherever.. Miss you my brother..

Ive never been as happy in my life as I was in those days. I saw Steve Vai in Seattle several years later had front row tickets. I was wearing my Skyscraper t shirt and Steve played a little excerpt of "Good Times." while in the middle of another song. I feel like he saw my shirt and did that just for me. Other than his fans like us, others do not give him the credit he deserves. Great lyricist, great song writer, lived the most full life I have Ever seen. From horse stables to Cafe Wha?, Greatest front man ever, greatest band ever ( in their Prime ), Explorer, mountain climber, world traveler, EMT, Japanese school,...what other Rockstar caught malaria in 3rd world countries or was on the verge of death with dysentery, umpteen surgeries... ? Much less bounced back and forth with Eddie's multiple personalities

Those of you who lived during this time period I'm sure are incredibly bittersweet, as this is a song of the times and more. For me, it makes me personally very sad as I grew up in the nineties. We were sold pop (Hansen and Spice Girls) and angst (Nirvana and Co.). For me I'm much more sad because I barely caught the tail end of this epic era. This time period of music is an escape, a show, and ultimately a party, which is the way it should remain. Most people these days, (my generation, suckillennials) have few clues on how to shred, rock, have fun, and enjoy a show. What happens in the 80's, stays in the 80s.....FUCK YOU VEGAS!
@barryjones93624 жыл бұрын
it's interesting that the younger generation realizes the 80's were awesome. In the 80's, we had thought of our parent's music as corny. But even today's kids recognize that there was an explosion of heart and virtuosity in the 80's. Today's kids don't think of Pyromania the same way we thought of Rockin Robin.

I love classic Van Halen so much. They've affected my very spirit on so many different occasions and levels. I identify with them so much in terms of how they affected me during my formative years. They are the soundtrack to my life in so many instances and I will always cherish them. As I type this I can only look back with fondness... The 80's??? Well, as David Lee Roth said, "The 80's just smiled". Smiled it did and in a huge part, by the awesome power, look, and feel of a band that cut their teeth in the 70's and owned it until their unfortunate end in 1985. I LOVE VAN HALEN LIKE NO OTHER AND ITS BECAUSE THEIR SPIRIT MOST MATCHES MINE.

I didn't really take the time to appreciate this tune when it was released, of course back then I was a cocky and immortal (or so I thought) 20 year old, for how could a song like this affect me at that age? If DLR wrote the lyrics to this song (and it sure seems like he did) he is absolutely correct, time moves SO quickly as you age, somewhere along the way, you begin to realize that you're not immortal, it's at that point a song like this has true meaning.

I especially like that song even more because it’s somewhat longer than most songs. This is a tune that needs to be longer. Love it

I can't believe it is more than 40 years ago when van Halen shocked musicians all over the planet. if you are a young person, keep in mind, that what you are doing now, will be your memories when your are old. make yourself some good memories and live here and now.

Sammy Hagar could not only not write lyrics like this, he couldn't move us emotionally like DLR did here with his vocal timbre/tone--as he did also on 'Little Dreamer' & 'Romeo's Delight'. Rock on, Dave.
