I caught every tour these guys did in the U.K. back in the 80’s! And recorded them too! Still have them! They were brilliant live!

Saw them at U. of Wisconsin/Madison in around '86 at a tiny bar (where I also saw 10,000 Maniacs with Tracy Chapman). They were so original and so amazing....NO ONE was like them!

the Camper Van-B catalog is staggering. And what's nice about it, is each song has a Beatles-esque strong melody and counterpoint (thank you Jonathan) and usually an interesting genre. David on his own in Cracker tends to go down the same road over and over.

I met this band back in 2010 when I was doing reception at a Comfort Inn. Really nice guys, and I remember them making jokes about Spinal Tap and asking if the parking garage had clearance for the van that they were traveling in. Talked to David briefly alone, I forget about what, but I do remember mentioning that I was a fan and him asking if I wanted an autograph. I have never been an autograph person, and so I said no, but it was nice to talk to him.

I had CVB's catalogue on viny at one happy point in my life. David Lowery's talent should have gotten him more recognition. But he is a singer/songwriter in the best rock tradition of Neil young, Bruce Cockburn, and Bob Mould (of Husker Du). The kind of songwriter who catches you off-guard with a lyric and suddenly you're...involved...in the song. It's good to hear he's still creating. May his muse never desert him. No joke, see "Sting".

Camper Van Beethoven is sooo underrated…kinda like the Pavement of the 80s. Those first three or four records are fucking great.

My sister Heidi and i are exactly three years apart. On the morning of our birthday, we sing each other "Happy Birthday" by Cracker. At my wedding reception, I sang "Mr. Wrong" as a tribute to my mother-in-law. And at my 50th birthday party, I sang a duet to "Eurotrash Girl" with my buddy Matt's band Phyllis Killer. Good times

I first saw them in late 87 in Seattle. I've been a huge fan of CVB since about 86 or 87. I've seen double shows of Camper Van and Cracker two or three times. I took pictures at all the shows, even the one in 87. I've also had a big crush on Jonathan

Saw CVB in London - camden electric ballroom 1990, travelled to London to see them again not long after and there was a note on the venue door saying they had split up! Met David at a later gig in London when Tusk came out and had a pic taken, all broad smiles and amazing memories. Love CVB, when are you coming back to the UK?!

Did I really miss this on television!? Wow, I just ...gosh! For me it's silly to ask if I "like" or "dislike" this video, cause I love anything David, Cracker or Camper Van Beethoven does. I do think David should of mentioned his 'partners in crime', given a 'shout out' , or something of the sort. Congradulations David for sticking with it! So many great musicians have been disallusioned and died.. Good for you! Keep rocking and see ya next gig....

They were our band. If you were alienated and interested in the best of culture that had come before they were your band. I mean they were in the middle of just plastic 1980s crap and we’re one of the only good bands around. They really are as much a 1980s or late 1980s band in the 1990s.

Lowery does not get his due in the music world and I think he likes it this way, his writing is up there with Nelson, Dillon and the likes. Euro-trash will never be beaten as far as song writing goes, its an anthem of our generations time. Don't know his political ideologies, but we're all born liberal and some or most evolve.
@FunkSoulBubby6 жыл бұрын
He's pretty solidly free-thinking libertarian if you ask me. He's the son of an AF vet with a math and computer science background who fronted an alt-punk and alternative band. His lyrical content is indicative of walking in the middle. And if you've noticed of late (since your comment was posted) he is incredibly defiant in the face of the Tech Era.
