Summary. Remove the reward and there is no reason to game the system. Phoney node gets ignored. Simple. Only good players that have an interest in the system succeeding will be active.
@marcsv0174
@marcsv0174 4 жыл бұрын
Remove the reward/incentive and no one will be running nodes/providing data except those who need the data ie. Banks/institutions. Banks can still provide faulty data in flares system so which nodes do you use when they all have the potential to be malicious actors to screw up each others business? Every business that needs data isn't going to run their own nodes. They will want to pay someone else to provide the data and flare is not a safe data provider for that reason. That is not truly decentralized or trustless. It is not as stable a system as Chainlink. David Schwartz may be a crypographic expert but he doesn't understand economics.

I heard David tweaked Bitcoin to work better in mining pools, not invent it.
@SJoelKatz
@SJoelKatz 4 жыл бұрын
@@krileayn That's true. When I first found out about bitcoin, I wanted to look at the code but needed some inspiration. Bitcoin was around $15 at the time and mining pools were just starting to grow. The original code wasn't designed with mining pool in mind and had a lot of scalability issues that hurt pools. I saw a number of pool operators contributing to bounties to anyone who could fix those issues. I figured that was a good way to learn my way around the code having a real goal to keep me focused. I fixed those issues, earned the bounties, and used them to make the down payment on a new house when I moved to Oakland. I sold the bitcoin right as I was buying the house and Wells Fargo needed to investigate the funds to make sure they weren't borrowed. I submitted to them the blockchain records and links to the posts on the bitcointalk form where the bounties were offered and claimed. The mortgage was approved.

The thing is Bitcoin is a good store of value that could be used as currencie. Xrp is a good currencie that can not be used as a store of value. Xrp its good but if the públic blockchains like digital euro etc work, would not have a place. The only Path is xrp being used by goverments. But the way tokens were destributed i dont Belive a goverment Will use it. Not a big One at least. But the tech is good, just a very hard Path to implementation.

24:55 yet Ripple is making enourmous money out of nothing (without the literal 'proof of work'!) by selling their 100bn artificially generated tokens to the plebs. And with these tokens, they control not only the market, but also development and the network. That's indeed a special form of 'aligned incentives'! 😄

@@sinjinbeatbox the thing is: his 'good points' are neutralized when one considers the de-facto centralisation of XRP & 'big daddy' Ripple on many vectors. So for his 'genius' 'solutions', there are - as usual!! - tradeoffs that make this cryptocurrency in fact centralised and expose it to the mercy of a corporation. So it's pretty much the same as with any other altcoin, there's just better marketing and more nicely phrased, carefully drafted narratives that make it easy for the ears.

Well that was hard to listen to... so much babble from Schwartz. Question: When are the interests of the banks and their customers... aligned?? Answer: Well one could arguably say... - when the banks were not charging fees for services - when the accounts that held value (deposits) were paid interest and not negative interest in deposits - when bank bail- outs and bank-ins were not enabled by laws - when banks were not deemed to be too big to fail by governments - Schwartz is making a big mistake. Soooo much obfuscation of the facts... those who control the RippleNet nodes - control the monetary system.

Frans I am saying that once upon a time normal nation state citizens benefited from banking services in the following manner: 1: grandma received interest on her account b as lance 2: grandma did not need to worry about Canadian bank bail-in legislation. That was before Harper made it legal in the 2014 March budget. 3: grandma invested in bank stocks 4: grandma paid fewer service fees ... etc ... That was in the Land Before People knew about banking as Ponzi schemes. Look up fractional reserve banking. The governments and politicians have enabled the banks to crash the system. Wait for it...
