good god. david simon is so inspiring. not only did he make the most amazing television series, but he is so on the money when he talks about the personal trust between newspapers and "joe bloggs".

That was impressive.

David Simon, testifying to politicians that really do not want these proposals to come to fruition. Vested interest in maintaining a degree of anonymity which blog & twitter "democratic journalism" allows to flourish, etc.

Every american needs to hear this immediately while we still have a chance at saving our democracy. WE NEED A NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION LED BY DAVID SIMON TO PUSH FOR THIS NEW, LOCALIZED, NON-PROFIT NEWSPAPER STRUCTURE WHERE JOURNALISTS ARE TRAINED AND MOTIVATED TO UNCOVER THE TRUTH AND ASK THE QUESTIONS THAT NEED TO BE ASKED. MESSAGE ME if you're serious about doing this. We need momentum NOW.

Good blogs link back to the original story, because that's where the real story is. People that trust the gossip you read on a blog but not from news don't read real news anyway. But what I'm saying is the good blogs drive traffic to the news websites. David Simon is a genius though. Everything he says is worth hearing and considering.

ALSO: It's a long shot that David Simon actually reads this, but I'd love to get in touch with him. Perhaps the people intelligent enough to watch this might be fans/friends that are in contact with him? Let me know. Thank you.

@Tris10 CSPAN has every aired congressional event archived on their website. Just do a search for David Simon and it should pop up. That's how I got it.

Tragic to watch this in the Age of Trump. R.I.P. journalism.

Simon is clearly a bright man, but it's going to take a LOT for the public to accept a paywall-only structure for online journalism. That probably says more about us as a public than the technology itself. But there will be great resistance to this type of model. People don't want to pay for what they've been getting for free.

...I can't link it in the comments? Oh well. Google "2009 Senate hearing on future of journalism". It's a c-span video.

1:10 High end journalism is dying in America. And unless a new economic model is achieved it will not be reborn online or anywhere else.

Didn't age very well. Considering online information has been constantly striving towards monetization, much to the consumers chagrin.
