Crazy how he thought he could pull some "I, the NBA Commissioner (David Stern) didn't stop the trade, the Owners Rep (David Stern) did" move and get away with it because he came up with some clever word play. We should all force ourselves to get angry and make sure cheeky, sneaky shit like this never happens if anyone tries it. confront it everywhere

David Stern vetoed that Chris Paul trade as an ode to Micheal Jordan. MJ and Stern came into the league together and MJ along with Stern's determination made the NBA an international conglomerate. MJ got to purchase the Hornets because of Stern's approval. These two have a very close personal and business friendship. With Jordan being so competitive, he did NOT want this trade to happen because Kobe Bryant had just won his 5th NBA championship the year before the trade and with the help of Chris Paul would have surpassed him for total championships. Jordan made a call to Stern and asked him to veto the trade because he did NOT want Kobe surpassing him in ring totals especially with everyone comparing them against each other. (Who's better? M.J. or Kobe? Right?) That's why Stern said he vetoed it for "basketball reasons". MJ was the reason for the veto and the Lakers haven't been the same since. In fact, Mitch Kupchak, GM of the Lakers has a beef with Stern til this day because of Stern and his bullshit. End of story.

@pharaohtheblackgod34258 жыл бұрын
+Big Mack Stop trippin' off that. I said the Hornets because that's what they are now in Charlotte. The whole gist of my comment is why David Stern vetoed the Chris Paul trade. He did it so the heat and Lebron was big so he could market them. if he did this trade the lakers would be to good for Miami.
@manuginobilisbaldspot4248 жыл бұрын
+savedbythebellnascar I doubt that. No Odom or Gasol would've been too much for the Lakers to offset THAT year. But CP3 + Kobe = free agents. Even if you don't like Kobe, CP3 would've been the ball handler and other stars would've come to the Lakers and played with him. It was the whining of the owners because the Lakers had location + assets + history working for them. So Stern undercut that IMHO as a means of trying to even the deck. And well, it worked. That and an awful trade to acquire a washed Steve Nash + Dwight Howard already being on the downside of his career when he was acquired. Now, you have to team build regardless of location. Which I do kind of like...but at the same time, it makes it seem more like a plantation. Players shouldn't be restricted by artificial means and the way the salary cap and deals are constructed now, free agency punishes teams more than ever
