I still have incredibly vivid memories of Patrick Troughton frantically choosing his replacement before giving up and regenerating as Jon Pertwee. 1968, I think, and a traumatised 4 year old never forgets! (Nor forgives Jon Pertwee from replacing his hero. Well, not for another year or so, anyway!)
@brontewcat5 ай бұрын
Patrick Troughton’s doctor scared me because his doctor was so nervous himself. I was on 8 when he regenerated, and I much preferred Jon Pertwee. Other than Terror of the Autons, I stopped getting nightmares or being unable to sleep.

I think it's amazing they kept the shots of the process. We get so spoiled by what we can do with computers and videos these days. The effort they put into the effects of the past .. well done, and well done saving this!
@frasierfreak92Ай бұрын
I think it’s because it was a VFX shot it’ll have been kept separately. Everything else would’ve just been thrown away and the edited version kept, but anything that needed VFX had to be sent off separately for processing so was probably kept somewhere.

Things like this make you appreciate the enormous amount of work and meticulous attention to detail that goes into getting everything right in even a scene that's only a few seconds long after editing. The old saying, "If you know what the magician knows, it's not magic anymore" doesn't apply here. It's still magic when you see the finished product with an appreciation of how and why it looks as good as it does.

Baker was interviewed years later,, he said he was tired of playing the Doctor, the physical nature was becoming too much for him, it shows a bit in that clip... he now does ensemble cast audio versions of the 4th doctor with Big Finish Productions, some of the same team used to make the show is involved it's done in the1970s style ie the drama, plots, and the music have the old feel... its surprisingly good
