This great if you hire or do a trade for social media or E Commerce. May do selfie testing posing and costume jewelry at some future date as a hobby and learn new skills. Thanks for the video.

For those saying he's an @sshole: I've shot fashion (at a high level) for quite some time, and to be honest, I was one of the very best photographers in my market. I was also the nicest guy. I provided a very healthy and happy working environment for everyone around (from the client, to the model, down to my assistants). Guess what? At the end of the day, being nice is bad for you. You lose deadlines. You get late into the night on the shootings. Everybody feels too relaxed, so we often got late on the shootings. You get pissed off clients. The production team doesn't give themselves 100%. And not a single client care if you're nice or not. Actually, I've lost many clients due to being extra nice. Maybe they would respect better an arrogant @-hole, than a genuine nice, humble guy. I understand why this guy is such an @-hole. That's the only way to make things work.

More then one way to motivate a crew then being a dick preproduction meetings let team members understand what is required and needed of them knowing how to communicate with people is instrumental in motivating them in a positive direction

Everybody here can kick and scream and call him a "poser", but at the end of the day, you have to remember--he's the one that got the job, and you're the one watching on youtube. People become different both in front of camera and under pressure on the job when a client is breathing down your back. I resent some things that he said (and that I saw) in this video, but cut him some slack. The shoot went smoothly.

I really don't like that type of people either. But with that said we have to keep in mind that time is money - especially for a photographer, designer, model, and make-up artist. The studio costs a lot of money to rent per hour (or maybe even per minute). Those people are hired to do that job and they probably have a schedule that they have to keep up with.

It seems to me that most people that are commenting on here with some negative remarks have never worked on a set like this and BTS footage is being shot. The most likely have 3 to 4 hours of footage... which has to be edited down to 12 minutes... Also, time is literally money... the client is watching over the shoulders, have expectations... if you are running overtime... that also cost the client money, for studio rental, staff, the model and creative team. Delays always happen and he's not trying to "cure cancer", but to deliver the product for the client that pays his bills. That's pressure, lots can go wrong, etc. People who advocate for "taking time for the art and creativity", don't know how to perform under such conditions. It's a business and as a professional... you have to deliver, or you are out! So, cut him some slack. My tone on a set is a little bit softer, I like to have fun on my sets, as I find that a set that works well together and has more fun, the results are better and achieved faster, but that's my style, but for this video... it's David's style and he delivers... that's all that counts!

Don't know what everyone’s problem with this. Apart from the hurry up at the beginning he was ok- very complimentary to the model overall. Cant believe how much equipment these guys have at their disposal- no wonder my shots of the wife look ordinary.

He seems like a nice guy...I've always hated photographers who treat their assistants like dirt, he seems to have a good balance between being in charge and being likeable.

Previously I've really really enjoyed the Phase One videos, but the two I've just watched (including) this one aren't a patch on previous ones. The video work seems like it's been done on the cheap and this particular photographer voice sounds a bit belittling and as if he likes the sound of his own voice. These two videos seem at odds with the quality I've come to expect from a Phase One experience. Check out the Volvo truck shoot.

I ponder how on Earth anyone would afford a Hassy, Phase One, a Mamiya, a few good lenses and lights to boot, and a studio bigger than a square metre and two meters high. Utterly incomprehensible to me that these things are sold here, despite all odds...

LOL - (in fact fell off my chair) what a ridiculous overkill on heads and flats (I can only assume it was for the movie). Clean white BG needs four heads in brollies and for all that mucking about you ended up with an Octa. A bit silly really. And after all this you still have to ask your retoucher (in your other video) to give you a "clean white background". Good luck to you mate but Oh dear....

A proper shot with Art Direction, Assistants, Retouchers, etc. In The Netherlands this sort of thing hardly ever takes place, for these poor little bastards won't afford to pay anything like a proper photoshoot. Perhaps, a couple of multinationals, but by no means a local client. It's between London & New York, or forget about photography!

That's a shame that PhaseOne videos feature only not so-talented photographers. I would rather prefer a PhaseOne behind the scene video from Mario Testino, Tim Walker or Frank Ockenfels for instance.
