If David Thompson hadn't hurt himself and gotten involved with drugs at 6'3"-6'4" we might be talking about him as the greatest shooting guard.every. He was totally and absolutely unstoppable.

I gotta be honest, I was not a UCLA fan and rooted hard for Thompson"s NC State team to win their famous matchup in the Final Four. Those were two great teams and Walton was so great as was Thompson. David is the best college 2 guard I've ever seen and one of the best pros, easy. His hops were so good he could touch the top of the backboard, no joke, the dude could sky!

DT is still the best college basketball player I've ever seen, and so many of my memories are from his play at NC State. Remember that freshmen were not allowed to play back then, their team was on probation his first varsity year as a soph (they went 27-0 but were ineligible to play in the postseason), there was no 3-point line, and dunking wasn't allowed. With all that, he was still the best!! He was only in the NCAA tourney once, and all he did Unfortunately, I didn't see that much of his pro career. The ABA wasn't televised in my market (Philly) and while his Denver teams were good, they just were not shown as often. But, in his prime, he could've been a Top 3 all-time shooting guard. it's hard to say, but not only did he have legendary hops, but his outside shot was money, and he had an amazing first step and spin moves. And he wasn't near as big and strong as Mike or Kobe. But faster and probably a better pure shooter than either.

So glad you did this video! I always felt DT was one of the best. Being from Detroit, there are two memories of DT I have connected to Detroit. He scored 73 points on the Pistons home court in the last game ever at the old Cobo Arena in 1978. In 1979, the next year, he won the MVP on the Pistons new court, the Silverdome, in the NBA All-Star game. It's a shame his career was cut short due to his vices, but he will always be one of my favorites of old school basketball. My first hero, Dr. J, mentioned DT as one of his top opponents and MJ modeled his game after him. He never reached his full potential, but being recognized by two of the greatest speaks volumes.
