To deflate my air mattress, come morning, I like to open the deflate valve while I'm lying on the mattress. Moves much the air out pretty rapidly, and inspires me to move out as well 😊.

Great Kit. At 15 pounds, it is doable for even on a minamalist hike. Just think, some backpacks weigh 30 pounds and uncomfortable to carry. I am 66 years old and I havent used a backpack in years. I hike in with a "Swag Roll", Haversack & a "Tucker Bag". The Tucker Bag is a drawstring sack that carries food & other gear and is fastened to the Swag Roll. It is then slung over to the front on the opposite shoulder of the Swag Roll. It looks strange but it balances the weight of the Bedroll and takes a huge amount of weight off your back. And very quick & easy to remove. It helps you to stand straight up rather than hunching over with a heavy backpack. You should do a video on that. Check out videos by "Scottys gone Walkabout". He has great video content on Swag Roll Camping.

I’ve been using a Badger Bed for about ten months now. Best sleep system and best rest outdoors that I have ever had. If weight is not a factor, then this system is tops. I did have an issue with the stretch material of the top section fraying around the edges, but I was able to very carefully burn the frays down with a lighter and with the melted edge all around now the issue has been resolved.

I am from Oz, so naturally I use a swag. There are actually many different swag designs and you can get them that have a fibreglass hoop each end to keep the top section from lying on top of you when in the bed. I now use one of this type, as the ones without the hoops were too restrictive under some conditions.

Outstanding. I am looking forward to the 4 wheeler camping vids. I've been camping off my 4-wheeler for about 7 years now. I'll take any and all tips, tricks, and best practices you have to offer. My favorite place to go is the Royal Blue, Sundquist, New River, and Tackett Creek OHV areas. I started by staying at the Ride Royal Blue Campground. There are over 200,000 acres to ride and plenty of places to camp. But now I have my own spots where I can ride to and camp at home. I agree with your estimation that this is likely the perfect sleep system for 4-wheeling.

Indeed the older we get the more Comfort we like. I am 65 and have been sleeping in the outdoors for the better part of my life. Started out with a 12 x 16 painters drop cloth tarp butyl backed that I would set up in a tripod. I have a a mock hammock system with built-in air mattress that keeps me insulated down to -0 degrees. Not that we need that here in Arkansas but I like the comfort. So enjoy your new bed roll. With a small tarp I might tumpline that for a short distance. Looks like a major Improvement to the old cowboy bedroll.

An Aussie swag would be much better in my opinion, particularly for the price. So much more versatile. They keep you off the ground. Covered and insulated. Warmer in winter and cooler in summer. Wind and rain proof plus keep the nasties out. Similar size and weight plus the quality is there for the price. But a quality bed roll like this would be great for in a vehicle or a tent or nice weather camping. I’m sure it’s something that would provide comfort and reliability for a long time. Great review
@adamkeane
@adamkeane Жыл бұрын
I would suggest that the Badger Bed is more versatile than an Aussie swag. You can sleep anywhere with this thing; back of your vehicle, in a ground tent or RTT, on the ground, on basement floor and even inside an Aussie swag.

Cool bit of gear.Just before Dave said it, I'm thinking "it's a pretty fancy swag!" Aussie here. My swag like is my second home! If anyone's interested, most Aussie swags these days come with a thick foam mattress, built-in bug mesh, and a pole or three to keep the canvas up a bit. So if someone wanted a budget version of this sleep system (maybe even gain some advantages), buy a swag, swap the foam for an inflatable, and use your own blanket.👍👍

@@gw10758 check out brands like Burke&Will's, Darche, and Oztrail. They've got models from dead basic through to top-shelf, and I'm sure some stores would ship overseas. I use an Oztrail "Mitchell king" (6 years), my young bloke uses a Darche "AWOL" (2 years). Both have been faultless, even on 2- or 3-week work trips out bush👍👍

The system looks great. If they don't already make it, they should consider offering a no-see-um net that zips onto the roll in place of the removable top cover. Imagine something like a hammock net that you can suspend from your ridge line.

I just finished setting mine up. One thing I did different than you Dave is I put the Mondo King air mattress underneath the black straps to secure it but then I put the fitted sheet over top of both the air mattress and the black straps. That way I don’t have any contact with those straps once I’m inside the sleep system. I’m not sure how you’re supposed to do it but that is working well for me. You may want to try it out.

That's quite a bedroll! If cowboys had that, they would have never got out of bed at night to ride herd. I have my g-grandpa's old bedroll. There isn't much to it but a canvas outer layer and what is pretty much a flannel sleeping bag. It probably weighs about 10-15 lbs. I have no idea how old it is - maybe 1920's or 30's?

Thank you Dave, wishing you well with all your classes. Years ago I was a guide on 6 day pack trips back to back all summer long. Sleeping on the ground in Grizzly country of NW WY. Comfort was a necessity and quick access to a firearm. Not mummified in a sleeping bag. My cowboy bedroll I brought with me from Elko, NV after being a Buckeroo on a big outfit. My bedroll was as essential as my custom made saddle. A ground sheet, 2 saddle pads and then my bedroll which had a 1”x 36” x 84” foam. Sheets, 100% wool blankets and a full size pillow. I would have a spare set of clothes and when I didn’t have my ‘86 45-70 in my saddle scabbard. It was rolled up in my bedroll too… We called them a cowboys suitcase. Dave’s version here is much more compact and lighter. Us cowboys though are rare and devoted traditionalists.

tip for the mattress blowup bag. insert your hand to the bottom of the bag , then lift the inner of the bag as to make a cavern as you gently run your extended hand all the way back to the opening , gently close the opening and squeeze the air into mat.

Intriguing product. I'm mostly just an air pad/sleeping bag combo kind of guy since it all fits neatly in my ruck for hiking trips but for a vehicle base camp type of situation that roll would be the bomb-diggity. I may just get the Badger Bed 30" to start with and use it with my existing air pad/Swagman roll combo for the spring/summers and then later on "graduate" to getting a quilt. Then later a full air matress/sheet combo. With today's economy I find it best to save up and buy as you go so as to not deplete a lot of fundage all at once. This is perfect for taking on extended overland vehicle journeys like tackling the Trans-America Trail. Wish I had it with me when I did the TAT on an '03 BMW F650 GS motorcycle many years ago.

I use a wool blanket with my Badger Bed. I'm allergic to down and needed something to keep me warm on colder nights. The wool army blanket that I provided combined with the flannel sheets that Born Outdoors offers for the system was a great combination for me. I have not sewn in loops for my blanket, but I do intend to do that.

Looks good. We use swags, replaced foam mattress with Exped Megamats. Roll-up tip: fold before you roll. Fold into thirds towards the deflate valve, kneel or sit on it to push the majority of the air out. Unfold. Then just roll up as normal which pushes any residual air out. Can get a much tighter roll and quicker.

You could probably do a button-hole stitch on the fitted sheet where the mattress's valve is. Then you'd have a reinforced hole that the valve sticks through and you would not have to undo the sheet to deflate.

Great show off. Well thought out kit and with sheets and pillow. I have use tarp bedrolls in the past and they included canvas over the top wrap. That was a separate air pocket and helped...except when you didn't need the warmth. The canvas was treated (bees wax then heated as I recall) and dew or light rain beaded off. For extra warmth, I think a GI wool blanket or poncho liner would work. Sew on some ties (550) and secure the bottom. Do the instructions suggest adding your extra set of clothes under the mattress? Thanks for the video.

That thing right there is the bees knees mr. You're right it would be perfect for 4-wheeling or canoeing you could probably even strapped it to a horse. Well you got you a nice one now but I believe I would change those sheets to a darker brown because you yourself know for sure that you ain't always the cleanest when you lay in the bag at night and when I say you I mean most people that do backpacking and camping. You know you could take those sheets and walnut dye them. As a matter of fact I'm going to be Walnut dying some canvas here before too long. Anyway thanks for the video as a good score you got there buddy. Y'all think about it now. Stay vigilant!

Not all mattresses have the fill nozzles in the same place. This system is a bring your own mattress system. You can purchase one from them, but there are other similar mattresses on the market. They know this, so the sheets are universal. Really easy to slip the sheet over the fill nozzle as is, so not an issue.
