Fun fact: The writer of this song (Rebecca sugar) actually was inspired to make Spinel after finding her old bunny stuffed toy in her garden years later after she forgot to get it. Spinel's designs were inspired from her stuffed toy. She also said: "It's shocking how much the stuffed toy had changed after abandoning it for years". She found her stuffed toy upside down, so that's probably where she got the idea of turning spinel's heart gem upside down to show people how much she has changed after all of these years of waiting for someone that won't come back.

Now, you are right about the abandonment stuff, but the biggest thing you are missing is what makes this even more heart wrenching. Spinel is gem, which means she is made, not born. She was literally made to be Pink’s best friend/playmate/toy. Then Pink just... left her. It’s not just abandonment, it’s the feeling of failure.

Something to understand, in regards to Spinel’s, the heart gem, transformation. Gems as a species can only change their forms if they are “poofed” attacked to hard from an outside force, Which is essentially the equivalent of temporary death. and getting shattered is the equivalent of being destroyed. And permanent death. Spinel transformed after receiving the shock of her life, that the being she was essentially created for didn’t care about her and abandoned her. And that is when we learned that gems can poof themselves, in this case, Spinel committed successful suicide from sheer shock and heartbreak and when she reformed she became something sad, angry, bitter and full of hate.

So let me explain if you didn’t know :3 Disclaimer! Spoiler alert The two gems in the beginning were Pink Diamond the taller one with poofy hair, and spinel the one with the heart gem. Pink Diamond wanted a colony which is a planet she can control on her own, but the other Diamonds did not let her have her own planet and when the time she was finally given colony the time she went to go to the colony but Spinel didn’t want to leave her so she left Spinel there and lied about a game where Spinel had to stay in the garden. Spinel waited for years for until Pink came back but she never returned, and she was slowly getting tired of waiting but she still did. That was until a message came from l around the universe(?) and Steven made a message that everything was alright every mistake was finished and he as the new Pink Diamond(Steven) will help as much as he can. Spinel then realized that she was forgotten, abandoned, replaced by Pink and she was sangry (idk) And boom wow that was the longest comment I have ever wrote. I’m sorry if I am being a major spoiler 🤭 I just couldn’t help myself. A person in the comment section kinda made a point when they said it’s not all about Pink so I made a few edits.

I suggest you listen to the Steven universe song, “distant shore” it is sung by the character lapis. She is a really messed up emotional character and all of her songs are really nice.

To , happy to listen happy to STAY. for me this shows at one point in the 6000 years she had suspected that it wasn't a game anymore and that Pink didn't want her around but she stayed anyway

You should definitely react to "Other Friends" from this movie but you should also react to "Something Entirely New". The latter song is connected to Garnet who sang "Stronger Than You" and some of the main melody is even included towards the end. The song focuses on the origins of Garnet's 'birth' in which Ruby and Sapphire met and bonded, slowly falling in love until they developed a relationship with enough trust and compassion to bond and fuse into Garnet who is a different person yet still a mix of the two. It's truly beautiful and represents same-sex relationships in kid shows perfectly.

Garnets is base or electric keatar, amethyst is drums, and their fusion is a combination of the two. Spinels instruments is a synthesizer and drums, giving her that sinister yet bouncy feel
