Dragon flies in the Pacific Northwest Washington state and in BC Canada get very big I have seen fly fisherman use dragon fly patterns tied on a #2- 3 x streamer hook and catch big trout all day long on them during spring and early summer. Davie ties a beautiful dragon fly .

Dragon flys are prime trout food in many ponds and still waters where I am! Never saw one with red eyes here but easy to modify with melted mono eyes instead! Interesting you put lead lengthwise down each side almost the same as I have been doing to add weight and shape on my version. Will adapt your version to suit and give it a try! Thanks! If you build up the body with something bouyant like pieces of old floating fly line you'll get a pattern that almost hovers in the water column. Very useful for prospecting around weed beds without getting hung up so much.
