Davinci Resolve Micro Panel Full Overview | Is it worth it?

Hey friends!
I'm so hype because I've been wanting a color grading panel for years at this point. In this video I go through all the functions of the DaVinci Resolve Micro Panel and give my thoughts on if it's worth spending the money on or not. I hope this helpful!

I’m in! One question, how is your laptop set up? Do you use a hub?

@miguelgonzal1998 I have it connected to my monitor via USB-C then the monitor acts as a hub with mutiple USB plugs for the panel, mouse, keyboard, etc. I’m still working on getting it to be exactly how I want it thh

Can i ask what monitor is? I have an macbook pro with the m1 and i am building my set up but i dont what to deal with a bunch of cables😅

I loooooove love love that unit. I feel like it doesn't only makes CG faster, but also way more organic. I love the fact that I can switch many settings at once! Great video as always mate!

I’m started learning colour grading since last summer and do enjoy it. I’ve done already few small projects . Would you recommend me to upgrade my tools or just stick to my keyboard and mouse ?

@@UraFlight stick with your keyboard and mouse until you start making money to edit and color, then start piling up your money until you have the funds to buy it

I highly recommend the stream deck xl to go along with this. You can program the buttons you are missing from the mini panel and hopefully put your keyboard aside! That being said I don’t own a panel yet but getting close to pulling the trigger on this one and saving up for the mini in the future. The packs available for stream decks are awesome and you can just grab your favourites and build the workspace that works for you.

Buy a Max Keyboard Falcon-20 Programmable Macropad Mechanical Keyboard. It's $60. That's what I did for things like my Printer Lights, New Nodes, New Serials, New Parallel Nodes, as well as New Grade Versions.

I've had one for awhile and I gotta say... While it's a great tool if you're doing color grading as a full time job or going through thousands of clips, that's only part of my job as an editor so 90% of the time it's a (good looking) black slab that takes up desk real estate. For $1000 I wish you could customize the buttons instead of being locked to a specific function

I'm seeing people pair this and the mini with a stream deck. They have resolve presets. Not sure if that would work for you.

Great video. One question, when I rotate a trackball vertically (ie towards 12 o'clock), the white dot on the color wheel in Davinci moves up towards 11 o'clock, ie not straight up, but towards the left. Similarly when I rotate the trackball straight down at 6 o'clock, the white dot on the color wheel in Davinci moves down towards 5 o'clock. It seems off by 30 degrees. The same if I rotate the trackball left or right (towards 9 o'clock or 3 o'clock), the white dot moves between 8 o'clock and 2 o'clock respectively). This is with all trackballs. Is this correct? It doesn't seem right. I assumed that the trackballs would directly correspond with the Color Wheels in Davinci on screen.

SOLUTION For those who came across this issue, here is the solution to align the Trackballs with that on Davinci. STEPS Go to DaVinci Resolve > Preferences > User > Control Panels, and uncheck "Classic DaVinci trackball alignment" Now the Trackballs will be aligned with that on the screen.

I’ve enjoyed it! They have a smaller, cheaper one out now that seems like a better starting point to me. But this one isn’t too hard to pickup either after watching some tutorials!

I haven’t taken any actual courses but Cullen Kelly, Darren Mostyn and Qazi are my favorites. A lot of people talk bad about Qazi but I’ve learned a ton from him and I think it’s dumb that people write him off tbh.

@@DustinHarrelsonmostly steer clear from qazi because of workflow. Teaches a lot of impractical things and plus lots of things going around about him being a douche, snake oil salesman. Me personally, a lot of his videos just left me with more questions and he never really got into the why’s and just “heres the sauce”. Some of his stuff was good for starting out, now i really wouldn’t watch his stuff.
