Quite the surprise hearing David Gooderson back as Davros. They could have just as easily gotten Terry Molloy or Julian Bleach, both of whom are still active in the role on audio and TV respectively, but they went with the actual season 17 actor.

I think with a tiny bit more modulation, Gooderson provides something of a decent ‘happy medium’ between Wisher and Molloy. I really don’t mind the voice in this trailer. It sounds ‘Davros’ enough to me.

Hey... this is the season Douglas Adams script-edited and wrote two stories for, and it originally aired September 1979 - January 1980. This means if you get this set when it's scheduled to be released in December, you'd be watching it just about 42 years later. I wonder if that was intentional on the part of some delightful geek at the BBC.

Tom Baker was the Doctor I grew up watching and remains one of my all-time favourites. The embodiment of child-like innocence, unflappable serenity, dry wit and infinite wisdom.

It's amazing to hear David Gooderson in the role of Davros after all this time. Just goes to show there was nothing wrong with his performance contrary to what so many had said. All he needed was to be modulated to round it off completley. A shame the new blu ray release here hasnt taken advantage of that and modulated David Goodersons original dialogue in the story so he sounds more like Davros. They missed a trick there

Although I have to cite Molloy as my personal favourite Davros, both on TV and in Big Finish audio dramas, to a great extent I actually preferred Gooderson’s subtle and more ‘human’ Davros over Wisher’s modulated whispering and machine-like shrieking . . . Having said that, I agree - a little modulation imposed over Gooderson’s dialogue rounds off his Davros very nicely.

Tom looks a little drawn these days, he is of course very old now, he would tell you that himself! So glad he is still with us to do the commentaries etc for his blu ray box sets, it wouldn’t surprise me if he’s already done them for the remaining three as well. He will always be my favourite Doctor, with the greatest respect to all the others, fine fellows, all of them. I hope Tom fully understands that He is the final Doctor, too, his Curator is the last Doctor, the Doctor in retirement. So, no matter what comes next in the story of the Doctor, it always ends with Tom’s face, that favourite old face. I’m sure he would love to fully understand that, I hope he does.

@@davidtyler6708 ohhhhh absolutely! Full of energy, cheekiness, fun, he will always be this way. Legend is a word that’s overused these days, but Tom is a genuine Legend. I think he’s my only surviving true hero. I hope he gets more years of good health and enjoyable life. In fact he should be allowed to regenerate too! 😊👍

As a 5 year old in 1979 the image of Scaroth in City of Death with the one eye and wormy head is my first visual memory of Doctor Who that has really stuck with me. Great memories of Saturday nights back then!

I'd say Season 17 is one of my favourites so this is like an instant preorder for me, but then who am I kidding - even if it was a season I didn't like, it would be an insttant preorder for me - it's Doctor Who, god damnit!

It is a season full of light and full of shadow. It contains two real gems by Douglas Adams, but also the three worst Tom Baker stories. And a mediocre Dalek story.

@@Nikioko i like creature horns and eden granted Eden is a weak one but this season is superior to the dullest Hive, the mess that is Logopolis, the not everyones taste and very marmite Warrior’s Gate and the bore of Traken. Meglos is also weak too. Only full circle and State of Decay are great

Sadly, the CoD original film footage does not survive, so it’ll only be upscaled from the videotapes of the original story (like Season 10 was)!

Destiny Of The Daleks was the very first Who I remember watching as a little kid. For that reason it holds a special place in my heart, I can never hate on it or season 17 despite the flaws you see later on in life. Good to see it get some love. Awesome new shot TARDIS materialisation on Skaro btw

A most interesting choice for the trailer to be focused on Davros from a story that isn’t really anyone’s favourite Dalek story (I love it but) and that David Gooderson returned to the role especially as most people have never held him in high regard as Davros as most people hold him beneath Wisher and Molloy

All these trailers have been amazing! Surely David Gooderson would be up for doing a round of Big Finish? Really looking forward to this set, love the pairing of the Fourth Doctor and Romana! The Behind the Sofa features are a stroke of genius, absolutely brilliant cast assembled for this set! Surely Shada is the lost story we’ve seen the most now!

Adams was saying like do you know how long that line in Hitch Hiker's took to write? And yes, it is pretty dense stuff. It goes over a lot of the weird aspects of quantum physics, creationism, and other topics. Like Bertrand Russel is here to serve us, therefore we are alive. It isn't a definitive proof, but about as good as it gets.

Aaaah, yes, yes, yes!!! I've been waiting for this, this is one of my favourite seasons and City of Death is my all-time favourite Who story!! Plus, the complete version of Shada (I already own every version that exists, including the Big Finish version), an interview with Lalla Ward (my all-time favourite companion) and a Douglas Adams retrospective (my all-time favourite author)? This is going to be amazing!!! Thank you for this!!!

Would love to see David Gooderson play Davros again, even if it was the 'Big Finish' programmes, wonder if they have redone his'Destiny' lines for this blu-ray? also wonder if they have somehow made the Daleks look less battered? they can do so much now to improve things.

I wasn’t even born in the classic era but with these Blu Rays and the amount special features (both new and old) I feel I identify as a classic fan more than a modern one. I was looking through the season 14 set and it had the very first Doctor Who documentary, which is already fantastic but then there is a Documentary about that Documentary which I find both crazy and amazing.

This is quite groovy actually - David Gooderson having some decent sound trickery on his voice unlike in 1979 - thought it was Julian Bleach originally, which shows he's pretty good at the role too. I love how Tom's comic timing is spot on as ever too. It all looks value for money. I haven't seen the McTighe script - God we've missed him - but I really hope he puts some link in there about the Imperial Dalek mutants being 'cyborgy' and the "Destiny" Daleks being very 'AI'-y, if that makes sense.

Tom Baker keeps curating along at 87 or so, and Lalla Ward still looks great. I remember some of these from when they were shown on PBS in the 80's, and I have the full-length "Shada" on another collection. This will be "Tom Baker: Complete Season Six" when it gets across the pond sometime later this year or early next.

Shada in its original six part format is the highlight of this new set. The 2017 movie version didn't work for me yet this new one finally feels like a proper complete story at long last. Couldn't watch that Lalla Ward interview though where she is sitting next to the monster Cyril Smith. It really should have been left off the set.

Hadn't seen that interview, and being someone alien to most UK political affairs until recently, I had little idea of that fuckface's sheer injustices. Perhaps it was good I had never seen it. In any case, I myself loved the 2017 movie format, so much so that it's one of my favourite 'stories' of all time, but I'm really looking forward to picking the disc for the six-parter when I get my box 🙃

Tom still seems sharp ugh he is my favorite classic Doctor. But damnit nothing I own runs a disc....... probably still gonna buy. And that Davros trailer was so good. Ugh this series. ❤️

I really have doubts he'll make it to see the 60th anniversary of doctor who I hope I'm wrong but as he said at the end of shada 2017 is that really the doctor he's such a nice old man
