@@daniellevaughn4598 I feel the same Way. At 1st CJ was a MAJOR A-Hole, But later on, he Became 1 of the MOST Valuble Fighter's of the Team/Group... ALso, Even though Its Pretty much Inexcusable, It is Pretty understandable why he Was Like that in the 1st place. He Was just Scared. ALL Of Em are Scared. A couple cameos in this: the sheriff on TV in an early broadcast advising people to shoot the zombies in the head was Tom Savini, legendary special effects wizard in Hollywood. He did the effects for the original Dawn of the Dead, and continued working on Romero's Dead series of movies thereafter (he also had a bit part in the original Dawn of the Dead as one of the biker gang who invades the mall late in the movie, and shows up as a zombified version of the same character in the later film Land of the Dead (2005)). He also directed a remake of Night of the Living Dead (1990). The preacher on TV who utters the famous line "When there's no more room in hell, the dead will walk the earth" was none other than Ken Foree, who played one of the main characters, Peter, in the original Dawn of the Dead (he was one of the last survivors at the end of the movie). The line itself was actually from the original movie as well, also uttered by him.

One of my favorite bits of trivia about this film: When Ana (Sarah Polley) is stitching up Kenneth's (Ving Rhames) arm, Sarah actually ran the needle through the prosthetic skin and right into Ving's skin. Ever the professional, Ving said NOTHING and they filmed the scene. It wasn't until after they called "Cut" did Ving reveal that Sarah had sewn the prosthetic piece to his arm.

They filmed this at Thornhill Square Mall north of Toronto and I used to ride the bus by there on my way to work during filming. They had black tarps draped over the parking garage window openings so they could film that sequence during the day to mimic night. The mall was scheduled to be demolished so they were free to do pretty much whatever they pleased during filming. I really liked this movie and still feel that it's Zack Snyder's best movie.

He did the makeup for the original Dawn of the Dead and directed the Night of the Living Dead remake in 1990 (also worth a watch IMO). In a humorous twist, this was directed by Zack Snyder, who would go on to create the DC Cinematic Universe and was written by James Gunn, who would take over the DC Cinematic Universe after Synder was pushed out the door by Warner Bros and his successors subsequently ran the franchise into the ground. Zack Synder said that at the time of production, they reached out the dozens and dozens of companies to allow them to feature their stores in the mall and only Panasonic agreed to let them create an electronics store around their brand, so all the stores you see in the movie are fake versions of the real thing. His goal was to have everyone meet at Starbucks, but since Starbucks refused to let them use their likeness, they created their own coffee shop called "Hallowed Grounds." Also, one of the stores in the mall, "Gaylen Ross" was named after the actress from the original Dawn of the Dead. And the preacher who talks about how when Hell is full, the dead will walk the earth... that was Ken Foree from the original Dawn of the Dead doing a cameo.

I grew up watching the double tape vhs of DOTD , my father's favorite. I still think it's the best beginning to a horror film. Like you said, perfect depiction of things rapidly decaying, then you get that juxtaposed with the hillbillies all celebrating killing zombies like a big party not realizing they are already doomed, they just don't know it yet.
@mr.battle20

@@creasefold1986 Actually George Romero commented on the hillbillies in the director's commentary to the Dawn of the Dead DVD. He said he wanted to show that the hillbillies were actually surviving and thriving while the rest of the world goes to hell. He said "everyone makes fun of the rednecks until the apocalypse happens." Say what you will about rednecks, but they know how to survive. They're skilled with firearms, know how to be self-sufficient, can grow their own crops, hunt, fish, gather resources, etc. They'll be doing fine while everyone in cities will be utterly screwed.

This one of the best remakes ever made. I've watched the original since I was a kid, it's a classic, but they did an AMAZING job woth this remake. I love this film! It's a modern classic based on an already amazing film! Zombie horror at it's finest!! ❤️ 🎃🧡

People always speculate about the characters ion this movie and if they could have survived, if they should have stayed, etc. In truth, they absolutely could have stayed and survived IF they took preparations right away, rather than living hedonistically for days-weeks before supplies began to dwindle, morale had sunk, they began turning on one another, Andy was emaciated, and the mass of zombies outside had grown past survivability. They had a naturally hidden position near roadway and water, it was multi storied, already empty and locked down, it was supplied with food, had running water, electricity and a generator and gas, bedding, propane, tools, batteries, medical supplies, and across the parking lot, an arsenal. Their personnel was ideal for survival. They had medical expertise with Anna, police training with Kenneth, security (possibly military) training with CJ, automotive, Andy as a sharpshooter/marksman, mechanical and technical machinery knowledge (possible agricultural as well) between Tucker and Norma, and Michael was a level headed co-leader with Kenneth, and you even have enough mixed gendered people of breeding age to repopulate. Had Andre not started going down the wrong path due to his wife and baby's situation, and Steve not been a selfish/useless dick, and Bart an idiot, you'd have had 7 men of fighting age (not counting Andy), along with Tucker who was still capable with a firearm, all armed with firearms which is a very, very strong unit. Had they immediately began preparation for breach (secondary fallback points), agriculture on the roof (very easily done), rationed the food supplies, had emergency evacuation plans, and used Andy's arsenal wisely, they could have held up there for well over a year, or had a wiser, safer means of escape if/when needed. Instead, they played games, had sex, watched movies, became disjointed and basically found themselves in a situation where they were purely reactionary and stupid. If they could have re-spawned too day one and had a do-over, their chances of survival would be very good.

There are two kinds of people in this world: those that have a zombie plan and those that do not. That second group can also be referred to as 'lunch'.

The thing about survival is movement and resources. They trained us in the military for that exact reason. Stay alive. By all means. Stay alive.

One of the things I love most about this one is that if you pay attention you will notice that the zombies slowly become more and more decayed over the course of the movie. I am convinced that if they had just stayed put where they were with their abundant supplies that in time they would have out lasted the zombies. All they had to do was wait them out.
@Hype679

They actually kinda touch on that with the generator sequence. The problem was, they were going to run out of fuel for power along with ammo soon. Not to mention food. The uncut version pretty much implies they're also going to starve past a certain date. And that's if the zombies didn't break in at some point.

This is easily one of my favorite movies of all time. Story telling, special effects, drama. Very very well done. The evil dead series being my number one and this movie being my number 2. Just so good. Even the original version is amazing.

My favorite Zombie film. *28 Days Later* comes close, although for me, that's more of a sub-genre _The Infected_ type of film (they don't actually die and resurrect).

I'd forgotten what good fun this movie is, poor Asia's blankie certainly got a workout. Like 'The Night of the Living Dead' [1968] it influenced a lot that came later in movies, games and shows. Another classic of survival under siege you guys might like is 'Assault on Precinct 13' [1976].

You should totally react to some Ice Nine Kills! Most of their songs are about the horror movies! They just dropped "meat and greet"! And "meat and greet pt2"! These songs are about silence of the lambs! The song "ex mortis" is about the movie the evil dead! You should check this one out first! It's a fun song! You'll love it! They also have the American nightmare! This one is about a nightmare on elm Street! Another one of my favs! Plus, they have a bunch more! I just went to see them in concert with falling in reverse! Such a great show!

Im with u, if I had an entire mall, pretty well secured, ways to grow food (garden dept and seeds from produce), build more security to the place (from hardware sec), had electric, water and beds. Im not going anywhere. Really enjoyed. Thanx so much, take care, Peace
