5 gallons of dawn is $113 available online from a recent search. There are some dawn formulas you can mix with bleach others you cannot. There are also pressure washing specific soaps you should also not mix with bleach. You need to look at the individual chemicals you are dealing with before mixing.

I appreciate your comments but I’m not sure what you are trying to say here. This was a comparison of Dawn and Elemonator. Agreed there are chemicals you can’t mix with bleach. Anyone that does this professionally should know what can be mixed and what can’t. Dawn will never work better than a soap that was formulated to work with bleach.

I got a question. Is there any type of soap with we can add to our SH mix to make it stick better onto the siding or roof that way it has time to soak into the material to kill algae with a soft wash?
@ExpertPowerWash
@ExpertPowerWash 2 жыл бұрын
There’s a fine line for soap use on siding. Too much will equal extended timing in rinsing and possible spotting of soap from not being rinsed good enough. Pay close attention to windows and screens. Too little, it doesn’t stick and reducing the ability to work on the siding. Roofs are different. You can use more with little issues. I use slo mo for roofs and Elemonator for siding.

If I where using a chem metering valve system(manifold). How would I go about in ratio? House wash at 1.5%, water at 100%, and the Eliminator at what on valve?
@ExpertPowerWash
@ExpertPowerWash 3 жыл бұрын
I don’t use the manifold for house washing, only roof cleaning and stronger mix projects. Just a quick note. The water at 100% is only 45-50% of your mix if the bleach is at 100% also. Soap is usually barely on. As you back down the bleach valve, the water pulls more which reduces the strength of your mix. The flow rates change depending on how you set your valves.

Pressure Tek Elemonator is what I use. Most people don't do the math to see which is cheaper; they get stuck on the initial cost. Buying in larger quantities is always cheaper than buying in smaller quantities; people get stuck on the initial cost, but if they did the calculation they'd see it's much cheaper and you get more product. It's not only cheaper, but it's better for the job.

I am not saying Dawn is a better choice at all. But cant compare cost when comparing a 5 gallon container vs a 16 ounce container. You will always save some money when buying in bulk. So a more fair comparison would be a 5 gallon container of Dawn vs a the 5 gallon container of Elemonator (or both 1 gallon). I haven't done the math there but there's a good chance Dawn will be cheaper. This is why i wouldnt use COST as my main argument for why I would chose anything over Dawn, unless you mean UP FRONT COST, not in the LONG RUN. The bleach stability, and performance on the field (ease of rinse, and spotless windows) should be the main argument for why Dawn is inferior. Probably not cost.

There are really good pro surfactants that cost the same as dawn, when both are bought 5 gal at a time. Elimonator is $102 vs dawn is $98- And you definitely use less true house wash than a DIY dawn deal (plus shipping on both items). So no, there is no cost comparison - the real stuff always wins hands down, that's why so many "labs" want to put one out. It's a win win.

I'm a retired federal surface maint tech for DOD. been trained by the best pros, we used dawn many times, mostly used Gain on buildings and roofs. I have elemonator from pressure tek and use it sometimes, it's ok, smells nice but you all are being fooled. don't feel bad though, the same dumb arguments come from the carpet cleaning industry as well. remember they want to sell you and push their products and make money.. remember what the surfactant is for, to assist on keeping the sh on the surface long enough to do its job. nothing magical about it. use Gain and save tons of money, dawn just fine for house and concrete, but go ahead spend tons of money and pass the expense to the customers,

Oh it definitely worked don't get me wrong! And believe it or not I actually hate to have to speak bad about. My issues is that it doesn't work better than King's Kling or Snotmenade and because Pressure Tek has a stupid 30 dollar minimum. It's more expensive than King's Kling and Snotmenade after shipping. It doesn't live up to the pedestal that a lot of Elemonator fanboys hyped it up to. I used it because people told me it was better than what I was using and it worked the same no difference other than it smelled like fcking lemons and it cost more money. And just to get 1 gallon I also had to buy a pressure washing tip that I don't need and that I'll probably never use. I won't ever buy from Pressure Tek again as long as they have that stupid minimum. Price per gallon after calculated shipping 1 gallon of Elemonator+ Pressure tip $50.51 1 gallon of King's Kling $42.02 1 gallon of Snotmenade $45.58

Thanks again for sharing. I can see where one gallon definitely would not be very cost effective. I buy a couple of fivers at a time and shipping is less. I may order a 55 in the spring. I need to wash just one roof next week before I winterize my pressure washer, so I don't need a large volume of roof surfactant. I know that you use SLO MO; however, SLO MO is only sold in 5 gallon containers and I don't wash enough roofs to likely ever use that much. Do you recommend or have you used a good product other than SLO MO? (something available in a 1 gallon container) Also, do you use SH in your roof mix? Thank you. FYI, I'm using a 3.3 GPM pressure washer with a downstream injector.

In would highly recommend not using your pressure washer on a roof. Gain original liquid laundry soap will work in a pinch. I use SH in my mix as suggested by the manufacturer of roofing material. @Cfomodz Жыл бұрын
@@ExpertPowerWash The fact that you have such a strong bias going into the video makes the "comparison" as pointed out by GEH, a bit disingenuous. Someone could just as easily make a video saying how much better dawn is because so many things "designed for the industry" are just more expensive due to the pink tax anyway, no matter what industry you're in. There's everything from "gamer" foam panels and "extra high speed" gold plated HDMI cables to sound systems that can play 10% outside of human hearing range and then the even "better" ones that can play 30% outside the human hearing range... Then there's the "top of the line" that plays so far out of human hearing range that your dolphins will also love it! Here, I know nothing about the elemonator, but let me give you my talking points for the video I am about to make about why it's a big rip off titled, "Dawn VS Elemonator" - The first ingrediant in these so-called "professional" solutions is water, so you know right there they are ripping you off - It's marketed towards "soft washing" so people trying to make money will think they have to buy it or they won't be able to justify their pricing to clients even though it's just fancy dish soap. - It is a surfactant. Surfactants are compounds that lower the surface tension (or interfacial tension) between two liquids, between a gas and a liquid, or between a liquid and a solid. Surfactants may act as detergents, wetting agents, emulsifiers, foaming agents, or dispersants. What does that sound like to you? Dawn dish soap? That's right! It's basically just a foaming detergent. - Dawn is safe to wash baby ducks, so you know it's safe to wash into your plants and into the street - Elementor has a warning right on the bottle that says, "Read relevant MSDS precautionary information before using this product" Who knows what it's going to do to grandma's flowers! - Elementor has a level 2 hazard level to your health and even has first aid instructions on the bottle. Is that really what you want misting back down onto you while you're trying to clean?! -Elementor is "Not Legal for Purchase or Use in the State of California" - Do you want cancer, or do you want to use duck friendly dawn dish soap - a surfactant that is legal to use in California and doesn't have any health hazard warnings on the side? The choice is up to you! - Real professionals use skill and knowledge to get the job done right. Newbies buy elemonator because it's expensive so they think it's going to help them be better than they are. No wonder they jack the price up and fill the barrel 90% full of pure H2O! You just... do you understand how saying things about something that IS TRUE and then saying your opinion about that fact immediately afterward doesn't make your opinion any more [or less] valid. It just makes it Sound more valid. Which is bad, because you should be able to state your opinion and then back it up with facts, not state a fact and then commentate on it with no basis (see literally everything I said above that IS TRUE about Elementor and Dawn and how I made those true things make elemonator sound bad and Dawn sound better just by stating an opinion immediately after those facts, while delivering those facts with a tone of disapproval from the start).

@@Cfomodz - I see advices like these all the time with anything, not just with pressure washers. Don’t overthink it. In your example, 10% SH. Cut it in half, 50/50. That’s 5%. Add a little more water if you like. We are cleaning not creating an exact chemical compound. I hope that helps. I know we can get technical but the end goal is to clean and make money. Every time I chase a little water into my bleach tank from rinsing out the pump. It dilutes it. If it’s not cleaning, bump it up. If it’s cleaning almost immediately, bump it down.

The bottle says not to use with bleach, not because Dawn is worried about the performance of a soft washing detergent mix, but because you bought a bottle of soap that contains ammonia. You don't mix ammonia and bleach, because it creates a seriously nasty gas that can destroy mucus membranes. Dawn Ultra (among numerous other soaps) can be purchased without ammonia as an additive. Edit: Worth mentioning, the active ingredient in Elemonator is the same fucking thing (and the same weight) as Dawn. lol Have fun with that.

Without surfactant, there’s nothing to help your bleach cling to the dirty surface. It helps with dwell time. Example, you wash a house which is a vertical surface. I used the Gain first and when done with that half it took me going over everything twice to get it clean. The Gain did smell really awesome and blocked the smell of SH better than the Elemonator but after doing the second half it only took me spraying down the solution and rinsing one time to get it equally as clean. Overall Elemenator did a better job at helping the SH kill and remove the algae plus all the dirt on the surface as well. I've bought and used 7 different surfactants from the softwashing industry and Elemonator is probably my favorite because of how well it works. I’d honestly do more research before washing. There are so many variables. I’ve spent 100s hours of research before ever going into the field. Research and then practice on your own house or family. $16 for four gallons is expensive but better than what you first suggested. And again, I can’t recommend dawn.

I have used dawn original for many years; it has many benefits when breaking down oils... I have used All original, A&H w/ oxy laundry detergents but I think after 25 years in the industry it’s time to get some Eliminator !! I keep all of the Front Nine restoration products on my trailer and Enviro Bio Cleaner and the difference is night and day! It’s hard to teach an old dog new tricks, after being at several conventions I have realized the benefits of going with industry standard products.. I am calling pressure Tek right now and ordering. I normally only put my chem respirator on when laying solution inside of a pool enclosure or up on a roof and when using the dawn because it does have “amines” derivative of ammonia , my lungs burn after a job. Here in Florida if you don’t get your widows rinsed within 2 minutes you will leave streaks that only vinegar will cut and if eliminator rinses much easier than I am sold !! It is imperative that we support our industry and be up to standard in the latest of technology and state of the art equipment and products. Thank you for doing the math for us! It is a no brainer now and I hope the results do your video justice. Thank you

Expert Power Wash very nice sir! Yes I have a few videos here but 99% of my stuff is across facebook groups and posts really. My biggest issue with dawn is that it breaks down petroleum and so when you spray it on vinyl, plastic, or asphalt shingles it drys stuff out, fades stuff and makes it brittle. You really notice it when you wash your vehicle with it and all the plastic goes from black to a faded gray. Stay safe and healthy out there man!

@@softwashscience lol, ever heard of the rinse? good professional roof washers follow the American asphalt recommendation and rinse the roof and don't let the strong SH sit on it waiting for rain.
@softwashscience
@softwashscience 3 жыл бұрын
@@michelleruss1 your referencing the same article that states to use a 4% solution so thanks for reiterating what I stated previously about too strong of mix. what are you getting by rinsing. I have rinsed many times but its only situational. if covered areas will not see rain that should be rinsed. If the customer wants instant results and knows that rinsing could cause accelerated granular loss but wants it done then we rinse. If you rinse every roof and you think guys that do are some how a great steward of professionalism I will say your wrong. on a sunny day you can't tell me that your able to treat and rinse a roof without any areas drying up before you do so. Unless your prewet the entire roof and have a crew of several guys your not achieving that and if you were to infact do that you would have so much run off your property damage would be significant and you wouldn't be in business. SH when not active and dry does no damage to the roof and if your rinsing properly your only providing the same results as rain would. proper treatment of organic growth is letting it sit and dwell so it kills 100%. If you rinse correctly your roofs will only be able to turn out as good as mine as I get perfection with or without a rinse. if you are using sh to strong and rinising your product will not be as good as mine. If your going to try and troll me then pick a different comment because its impossible to win when I'm 100% correct. I hope this was informative for you and good luck.

I’ve heard that on gain. My only concern would be if it’s bleach stable. Gain can be mixed with SH and used obviously but I don’t think it is stable as in it will break down the SH within days. Ok to be used for a single use but not if it’s left over and used. That’s why I like Elemonator. It’s stable, preserves, and boosts your mix. Look for at least bleach stable surfactants. We have the same thing in the fire service. Dawn is cheaper than fire fighting foam (class A) and just as good people will say. Dawn while certainly having quality surfactants also has thicken agents, fragrances and other add ons. The other thing missing is that it's not a 1 to 1 ounce comparison. The pro surfactants will simply have the same effects at a lower injection rate making that equation even more in favor of buying pro products. (Quality pro products that is...) Fyi - dawn did do extremely well in the NFPA crib tests, a standard test tobequate the performance of fire foams. We actually got hundreds of containers donated to our FD following a disaster. We have use those for quick easy way to add some to our water cans. Works great, and as it was free, then the equation makes sense!! Also.. the additives in dawn change based on the version of dawn. I don't think the bleach issue is surfactant in dawn, but it's unstable with some of the additives. Good vid!

@@ExpertPowerWash I agree, but if someone is starting out, it's fine to run tests with the safe dawn then upgrade when they're ready to do it right for actual jobs. The right stuff is always better in the end.

Start out with the right stuff and experiment with that. Pressure Tek sells a sample pack.

Don’t do that. We developed our own soap. It’s great. Here’s a link to the soap we developed and use daily. We quit using Elemonator due to not being able to purchase in the quantities that we needed. pressurewashingskids.com/products/apple-suds-roof-and-house-washing-soap?_pos=1&_psq=apple&_ss=e&_v=1.0

You know when you buy a 16oz bottle it’s going to cost more. How much is a 5 of dawn? That’s what ur math should be based off of ace.

Do the math and let me know. Do a re make of my video with the corrected info. I’d be happy to watch it and comment on it.

Thanks for watching and commenting. I never tried it. Doesn’t seem very cost effective for the amount you would need to wash an entire house.
