The problem with being an overseas 2nd hand collector of anything and going to Japan in the last year since their border opened is the shops in major Japanese cities have changed tactics. It's not really about the individual collector any more, it's about selling to dealers and overseas shops. Whether it's toys / figures, vinyl records, video games etc, if you don't come with a huge budget, you're not going to get much. Prices have increased about 30% to 40% for even the most common items. I had shop owners apologise to me in the big cities saying exactly the same thing. They need to profit from the weak yen. The Euro and US dollar are cleaning up. Tokyo is probably the worst when it comes to prices for any collectibles, but if you do trek out further, the deals of yesteryear are still there as they are mainly selling to locals. I bought Famicom / Super Famicom games in Northern Japan which were double, if not more in Tokyo, why? Cos no dealers or shops can be bothered to trek out that far. I didn't even bother going to Shinjuku or Akihabara etc etc last year. I saw you guys went out to Yokohama which is a great idea. I hope the 2nd hand collectables scene dies down a bit in coming years as it really sucks. I walked out of record stores in Tokyo where I have usually picked up 20 records, and this time walked out with none. Same with figures, games etc etc. Anyone with a good exchange rate is going to be enjoying that high price fancy fancy sushi :)

Glad to see you've made it back to Tokyo. I was there in October (previously there in 2018), and had a little bit of sticker shock at some of the price increases at the Hard-Offs, but I was still able to come away with 3 suitcases full of stuff. Love Super Potato. You are right. Their prices are out of control. I think they bank on being a tourist attraction as well as a store. Those not looking to explore or short of time, Super Potato is great but get ready to pay a premium.

Couldn't find retro gaming camp even though ive been before. Maybe I had a old address. Trader bought nothing and I went there twice. Super potato i bought 3 items. I bought 4 items at mandarake and 4 items at friends and 3 items from Beep. I'm about 30 percent through my list. Tomorrow Osaka.
