Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the travel bug! We started “travel hacking” and taking more trips together and finally decided we wanted to travel for one year. After 2 years of saving $ and travel hacking over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016. We started this KZfaq channel to share our experiences with friends and family, then decided we really liked vlogging and traveling. So we extended our 1 year trip to THREE years :) Now we have a goal of traveling to 100 countries before 2020! We are incredibly thankful to do something we love every day. :)

Best season for Everest base camp trekking There are two preferable seasons for Everest base camp trekking: Spring and autumn. The spring season starts from mid-February and ends towards the end of May. The period between March and May is the hottest time of year when temperatures might go up to 30°C. The autumn season starts from mid-September and lasts until the end of November. It comes with features of dryness, clear blue sky and a mild breeze. www.nepalsanctuarytreks.com/45-things-to-know-before-you-hike-to-everest-base-camp/

there exists about 18 degrees at the runway,it is not very hard to reduce speed
@sjn_
@sjn_ 5 жыл бұрын
@MrCloudseeker Yes but it's not only about short runway and STOL aircraft. You can see there is no way to go around if the landing is to be aborted for some reason, once you're about to land, you have no choice. One mistake and you're gone. Frequent weather changes in this region also has big impacts to the flight operatons. You have to be a qualified and experienced pilot to land here, it may look easy to us people warching but it's as equally difficult and risky too.

do you know if you have to be very prepared to do this? I am fit since I regularly run around 10-15km, have done 35-40km runs every now and then and I hit the gym regularly. But should I do some long distance walks to prepare for it?

I'm so glad you showed all the flying part. It was the part I was worried about most for you. I told you it was one of the worst but didn't want to scare you. Now I can tell you, you prob heard, it's number one in danger in the world and there have been many crashes there!! The runway is a ski slope runway. On approach there is no go around basically and because of the cliff at the end, planes have slammed into the cliff. That's why the winds are so tricky and they cancel flights because of it! So glad you guys are safe and had a great time. Can't wait to see all the vlogs!

I like watching Everest Summits on youtube and so your channel popped up on my recommendations this morning. It was the perfect day to stay home with the fireplace and do laundry because it was an ungodly cold and very windy day. I ended up bing watching your entire Everest Base Camp Trek today. Beautiful. It was so well done, it really gave the viewer a sense of what it's like to do it. And you two are both adorable. Thank you!

I had the fortune to live in Nepal from 2008 to 2010 and in 2009 in Oct, did the Everest Base Camp Trekk. Living in Kathmandu, I was somewhat acclimatized so altitude sickness wasn't an issue until the last stop before Base Camp. We chose to start taking Dymox (sp) at that point. A tip from our guide was to avoid any meat and to stick to a diet of rice, veggies, oatmeal, onion soup, and tea. We did carry small packets of chicken/tuna that we mixed with our rice. Other groups were not as careful and got food poisoning. We also used several water filters - a Sawyer, UV light and drops to purify our water. A reminder is most power is solar and 99% of the food you consume is carried in on the backs of porters or Yaks. Speaking of Yaks, when passing on a trail, assume the side away from the cliff. Yaks are known to bump hikers off the trails. Be sure to get medical / evacuation insurance (a rather costly adventure should you need to be air lifted off the trekk). Our guide suggested we employ three porters; we didn't have that much gear but knew what we ended up paying the porters helped them and their families during the winter. The US Embassy website had a list of medical supplies/items suggested for all hikers. You can purchase everything without prescriptions for around $10 a person. We used very little and gave our remaining supplies away once we started our return hike. Recommend trekking poles - we didn't think we would use them but after day one, they were in constant use. Finally, bring sun protection. While there are prettier trekks/routes, there is something about this one that draws the most tourists. I would also suggest not doing this in the Spring, as the guest houses and trails are full of expeditions trying to summit Everest. As mentioned, we did ours in early Fall and easily avoided the crowds. When I negotiated the fee with our guide, the cost per person included the round trip cost of air fare for him (we each paid ours separately) nights in a guest house (the standards vary) plus 2xmeals per day, porter fees, etc. Our porters were amazing; they would leave before us each day and our gear would be waiting for us at the guest house when we arrived. On our trip, there were two occasions when we stayed two nights at a location to allow for acclimatization. If I remember correctly, it took 8-days to reach Base Camp and 4-days to return. On the subject of Base Camp - we are talking the location of the original Hillary Base Camp. The glacier has receded so each year during the climbing season, the location for base camp changes due to the condition of the glacier. For us, we were asked NOT to visit the that year's base camp location so as not to disrupt a winter expedition's summit attempt.

@amogus5902

@@heyjocelynj the worst part is the altitude sickness and the thing is that you can't really physically prepare for it. some people get sick and they get sick BAD (i was one of them) and some people are completely fine. for me after 4000 metres my appetite was completely gone, i was nauseous and had stomach problems, and i was just beyond exhausted all the time. the only way you can prepare yourself for this scenario is all mental work. you have to tell yourself that you can do this, and you need to believe in yourself!
