Love exploring the Mississippi River region! Been taking trips along the river throughout my life, especially a handful of day trips the past few years along the Iowa / Illinois portion. Beautiful route. Never gets old. Enjoy the little town of Sabula, Iowa - the only Iowa town that’s on an island right along the Mississippi. There’s a really cool little park west of town that’s surrounded by water that's a nice place to enjoy nature. Quad Cities - Figge Art Museum - has some really interesting Grant Wood (American Gothic Painting) and Frank Lloyd Wright pieces, as well as this massively long painting that will give you plenty of Wizard of Oz vibes!

Wow, it's so cool seeing the Mississippi River start off as a tiny creek! I *think* the first Big Fish was a pike, but I could be wrong. It's interesting to me how it still looks like late winter/early spring up in Minnesota. It's looked like full summer down here in South Texas for a month or two already. It'll be cool to see the seasons progress as you make your way south! Overall, I'm looking forward to this trip!

Good Job 👍🤠 Carpetbagger, getting in the wonderful Judy Garland Museum and actual home she grew up in,!!! The giant fish at the restaurant also was the catalyst for yet another Carpetbagger idiom " giant toothy maw"!!! Classic Carpetbagger lingo. We need to develop a book with all the interesting n unusual combinations of words n phrases you have coined throughout your videography!!! I took, am a Great fan of Paul Bunyan and his Blue 💙 Ox companion, Babe!!! Your first day along the "mighty Mississippi" River trek has turned up some VERY unusual n eclectic roadside wonders, n I would call that EXTREMELY SUCCESSFUL!!! Attaboy, Carpetbagger!!! Looking forward to day 2 tomorrow!!!

When you come through just south of the St. Louis area, there's a tourist town Kimmswick, Missouri which has a famous restaurant The Blue Owl, known for their "mile-high" pies. Also in the same area is an original 1959 hamburger and ice cream drive-in called "Bob's". Great neon sign and fantastic chocolate malts.

I read Tom Sawyer at a very impressionable age, and have wanted to go down the Mississippi by raft ever since. It was only when I became an adult did I realize how impractical and improbable that would be, but it's still another item on the bucket list. My guess was U.S. 1, so I was wrong. Safe travels, my friend.

I love this so much. I haven't seen anyone else make this journey. I hope you stop in Dubuque, Iowa. I'm originally from Syracuse NY but live in SW Michigan and we visited Dubuque Iowa for my son's travel baseball tournament and fell in love with the area. I believe there is a Mississippi River museum there, and there is a beautiful river walk. Dyersville is not too far away and that is where the Field of Dreams movie site is, also a couple baseball museums. I suggest watching the movie first though, it will be more meaningful.

Another place next to Collinsville, IL is Cahokia Mounds which has the oldest Indian Mounds in this area. They have a State Park Museum there. You can even climb the Indian Mound. If you are hungry, you can stop in at my sisters restaurant, Ravanellis in Collinsville. She is the General Manager, Cindy Wilson.

Also also, you should visit Hannibal, Missouri, hometown of Mark Twain, the town has a very nice downtown with Mark Twain's boyhood home and a Mark Twain museum. It's worth the stop.

As a kid, I had little to no interest in learning during our school field trips. Infact, I considered a lot of it really lame. But now that I'm in my 40's all I want to do is go on "field trips", explore, see, and learn everything. My dad once told me to be careful about what I judged and disliked, bc it will somehow become part of your life one day.

The first time I arrived at the crossing point at the start of the river, I was pleasantly surprised by a rather low flying bald eagle. A small gathering of people watched as most of us thought it might be looking for a fish. It eventually flew away, but I just thought that was an interesting introduction to the headwaters. P.S. thankfully there was no field trip there to ruin the silence. I am a firm believer in the old adage children should be seen and not heard!
