The Chronicles of Chateau de Rosieres

The Chronicles of Chateau de Rosieres

Жыл бұрын

This Christmas we're bringing you a very special Advent Calendar - the biggest chateau tour ever seen on KZfaq. Every day until December 25th we'll open the door to a different room of the Chateau and tell you about its past, present and future. By Christmas day the tour will be over 5 hours long!
We are Marc, Amy, Clement and Juliette, a French-English family restoring a 33 room medieval chateau and huge estate in southern France. Follow our award-winning, historically-sensitive restorations and our journey towards self-sufficiency and sustainability, with plenty of laughter along the way.

Amy! Do NOT stop making/posting these videos because of one snarky comment from a viewer! Not exactly a nice "thank you" for all your hard work! For such a small room it had a lot of interesting tidbits. You and Marc have a huge undertaking here but you are approaching it properly--by gathering historical data and finding items to fill the room that are of that period. So many people are enjoying these little tours. Doing even a short video takes lots of time and preparation, and we appreciate all your hard work. Thank you for it all.

Oh wow - this is indeed one of the most interesting spaces. The idea that it would have been a service court or impluvium is pretty convincing. I had wondered where the bread oven opened to - and it's sensible to have it outside the main block, especially if it served a large settlement. Love this!
@marshawargo7238
@marshawargo7238 Жыл бұрын
Would it be within reason to have 2 openings for access to retrieve bread. Incase the fireside has lots of people(women) cooking? I mean, if a stew or ham should stay over heat an extra few minutes, no problem. BUT bread, rolls or pies not out in time Does mean a difference. What I'm saying is, Marc said they accidentally went through but maybe it was there.

That is so cool. It makes sens to have a rainwater gathering place in the event that the castle was under siege so nobody had to risk going out for water. the hidden cistern will have all the answers

A “swing” door, is also used between kitchens and serving areas. I’d love to know if the area ever had an open roof? Possibly it’s suitable for restoration and a future home for hanging vines or ferns? The rain run off probably would be unwanted in the dining room, but perhaps could be diverted to the large empty cistern? I assume it’s almost empty due to the echo in heavy rain. What an intriguing little hallway. Thanks for including it.

I really love the fact that the horses a Rider would a dismount in the middle of the building. What's safer place . Now I have a history question for you. Do you have a list of the families That controlled this Chateau through the ages. Like their names. And possibly who they threw their loyalty too. I enjoy your program very much cause I love history. Please take heart. Your videos are great and it is clear that you have a normal, good relationship with Marc; that's the only thing that matters in the end. I think many vloggers experience this kind of abuse/negativity, sometimes worse (thinking of Stephanie Jarvis). Have a chat with her? What you are both doing in this chateau is important. I watch your videos from Japan (a Brit). Really enjoy them.

Thank you ❤. Yes poor Stephanie has a huge amount to endure, and I don’t think I could continue it I was attacked that much. But the trouble is at our level, we’re getting nothing out of it but the satisfaction of producing and sharing the videos. We are so small (and failing to grow like others) that we have no discernable income, so when the enjoyment part of it is tainted and we start to feel bad about ourselves then it’s hard to find a reason to continue. Maybe we will. We’ll have to see in the New Year. I’d find it a lot easier to take the negative comments if we were really successful and producing an income from KZfaq that could support the restoration work 😂

@@Chroniclesofrosieres I understand. It is Herculean in many ways but you both have a lot of respect. Income is one thing, not to be dismissed but I think you're really helping people by showing what you are doing and what you are both capable of doing. Perhaps, if there really is no fun in it then that's another issue. We restored a barn in Normandy, nothing on the scale of what you are doing but it was a huge learning curve. I wish I could have recorded it; the ups and the downs, especially a Brit and a Japanese living in a small French village. Perhaps it's your children's legacy? The world is in much turmoil now, no idea when/if it will end. You are life-savers but like on an aircraft, put your own mask on first. Supporting you all the way. With many thanks. Our local lady MP's slogan is, 'Never, never, never give up'. Not a bad motto for life.
