As a defender myself if you want to defend the player try to angle him into the boards and get physical. As a defender you get pushed around a lot so it should be fine.

I think the best for u now is learning to pivot from forwards to backwards. It will help when pinching up on an attacker and opening up creating more space in the offensive zone. Come along way since u first started looking great

You are looking incredible! One tip is that when the puck is loose, body on body and stick on stick. What I mean is that you can get your body in the way and then grab the puck. Great job!!!

On your breakaway, you need to sell that fake a little, you went through the motions, but make the moves bigger if that makes sense. Like. Pause, open up (bring your top hand out forward from your body like you're shooting to the right) maybe even give the twig a little flex to sell the fake shot, then bring your stick back bigger ( further left) for the backhand. Hard to explain online, hope it made sense.

I'd say use the boards some more. You can chip it off the sides a ton and make passes to yourself. And the closing the gap, try to step more towards the middle and get around the guy, rather than shooting from far away. But for 5 months, your looking insane, just remember that you have time, try to take the extra second to make an even better play.

Always use the defenders triangle from their feet to their stick, puck placement is key while attacking and leaves them vulnerable and off balance

For the question at the start, i dont know if you play with offside. But if you dont, you could mabey just charge the bet and Get realt for a rebound or redirect

at 0:40 it is an awkward spot to be, usually in hockey we have offsides ,so that doesn't really happen but generally if you keep your head up and see if your teammate is going for a shot rather then a dump and chase/pass, you can crash the net for a rebound. I'm not a coach or pro so its just my input but I don't think there is need for backward skating in this case. I also would like to mention that there might be an objectively good way of handling certain situations but in the end it really depends on your personal skill level and what's within comfort. I wouldn't recommend to go backwards if you are still learning how to switch without losing momentum. same thing for passing teammates and plays. Some teams and coaches might enforce team play where others will say just shoot the puck on target. It all depends on your group and skill to make the best out of what you have.

My son is a AA Peewee and recommend’s cutting two the net to box out the other team and get the rebounds.

When stepping up, I typically will keep skating backwards, and run them to the side. It isnt much of a step up if you are playing someone good, as they will make a move.

I think you’re over stick handling a little. The play where you “didn’t know what to do” you stick handled into the opposing players stick. You put the puck where the player is, not where the player is not. Sick dangles will come in time but I’d focus more on the basics. Simply skating with a puck on your stick forwards and backwards. Also moving the puck side to side across your body. That way if the player is to your right you can snap it to the left where they are not and continue to skate forward and around them. Look what the guy in green did behind you after. He kept the puck out of reach and pushed forward. Then brought it in for the shot. He does it again around the defender shorty after up the boards. You don’t need to stick handle like crazy. Just always remember “put the puck where the player is not”
