Day 188: Christ’s Presence in the Eucharist - The Catechism in a Year (with Fr. Mike Schmitz)

The Catechism in a Year (with Fr. Mike Schmitz)

Жыл бұрын

This episode has been found to be in conformity with the Catechism by the Institute on the Catechism, under the Subcommittee on the Catechism, USCCB.
📖 Follow along with the official Catechism in a Year Reading Plan (AscensionPress.com/CIY)
Together, with Fr. Mike, we explore the reality of Christ’s true presence in the Eucharist. Fr. Mike unpacks what actually happens during the celebration of the sacrifice of the Eucharist, specifically, transubstantiation. He explains that during the Consecration, the whole substance of bread and wine becomes the whole substance of the Body and Blood of Christ. Today’s readings are Catechism paragraphs 1373-1377.
Please note: The Catechism of the Catholic Church contains adult themes that may not be suitable for children - parental discretion is advised.
Ascension is committed to creating media that helps Catholics grow in their faith. Catechism in a Year promises to do just that - that’s why, no matter what, we’re making it. Today at Mass I concentrated on the Christians in purgatory during the Eucharistic prayers. The Catholic Mass is so beautiful, and the Eucharist is the Diamond of our Faith. Thank you, Jesus Christ, my Lord and my God! Blessings for everyone here..

They with ears to hear, let them hear: Through the Holy Spirit, God has put it on me to preach to those lost in the devil's deceit! I tell you now to repent of your sins, accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, and you'll receive the gift of the Holy Spirit upon asking the Father! There are *NO* sub-divisions of Christianity. You're either a disciple of Christ or not. A Christian is someone who follows God's word, not a religion. Who obey the Father and follow his will; not man's nor their own heart's. Unless you keep Jesus' commandments, think not the Holy Spirit will dwell within you! They who heed this message and did what was stated with an open heart to God... Read the Holy Bible (KJV) daily and every time before you read, pray to the Father and ask: "Lord I ask that you give me understanding of your word, that I interpret it the way you want me to, and none of my own. I ask you in Jesus' name, amen." Revelation 22:8-9 KJV 8 And I John saw these things, and heard them. And when I had heard and seen, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel which shewed me these things. 9 Then saith he unto me, See thou do it not: for I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren the prophets, and of them which keep the sayings of this book: worship God. Acts 2:38 KJV 38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Luke 11:13 KJV 13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him? John 14:21-24 KJV 21 *He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.* 22 Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world? 23 Jesus answered and said unto him, *If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.* 24 He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and *the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me.* 3 John 1:11 KJV 11 Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. *He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God.* 1 John 3:6-10 KJV 6 *Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.* 7 Little children, let no man deceive you: *he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.* 8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. 9 *Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.* 10 *In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God,* neither he that loveth not his brother.

Jesus Christ is present in the Eucharist in a true, real, and substantial way, with His Body and His Blood, with His Soul and Divinity. Transubstantiation is brought about in the Eucharistic prayer through the efficacy of the Word of Christ and by the action of the Holy Spirit. However, the outward characteristics of bread and wine, that is, the "Eucharistic species" remain unaltered. Let us commit to have a deeper relationship in Him. 🙏

July 7, 2023 Please pray for Souls in Purgatory. Go ahead, just take about 30 seconds to help save a soul that maybe is your family member or friend! Go forth and help save! Here is the prayer: (According to tradition, St. Gertrude the Great was told by Our Lord that each time she piously recited the following prayer, it would release 1,000 souls (or a vast number) from their suffering in purgatory.) The Prayer of St. Gertrude Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the masses said throughout the world today, for all the Holy Souls in Purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal church, those in my own home and within my family.
Amen. God would reply to St. Gertrude that He would use whatever was offered to Him for the faithful departed, according to His inclination to show pardon & mercy.

Your most Precios Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity 🙏❤️ In the celebration of the Eucharist, bread and wine become the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit and the instrumentality of the priest. God has a presence is this world that has existed for all time. At the Incarnation, through the person of Jesus Christ, God became uniquely present in this world. Jesus could be touched, seen and heard. He breathed the same air that His followers breathed. That same unique presence with us occurs now at each Mass at the moment the priest proclaims the words in institution (CCC 1374). We are, once again, so present with the Lord that we are breathing the same air again. Take a deep breath. Breathe in the Holy Spirit. We are growing in intimacy with the Lord at each Mass, each time we receive the Eucharist. What a gift! Amen? Amen!

I guess; when he breathed on them; any part of the hostoricity; historicity of Jesus is amenisis; I can't say that word. Jesus is perpentual; even the sound of HIS NAME; that the demons do tremble. His voice at that time period; even more. But we don't have to wish that we were there to hear his voice; we hear with our hearts. To St Thomas: blessed are those who can't see with their eyes. So, we get a double portion. Greater works shall ye do. The fact that we are converted; is a new creation in Christ; so, we are miracles. And so, if we see salvation among us; and it is the only sign; praise God for SALVATION. PLUS THE JOY OF OUR SALVATION!

Yesterday, Eduardo Hoover; and a few of us had a conversation; on this subject. He spoke about the Perfection. I spoke on the Grace. How do these two work together? Jesus said: I will not leave you orphaned; and we do the same for Jesus. It works both ways. That is basically what was said. But this explanation does not do justice.

Day 188 The Eucharistic presence of Christ begins at the moment of Consecration and ensures as long as the Eucharistic species subsist. This means as long as the Body is recognisable as bread and the Blood is recognisable as wine, that remains the Body and Blood of Christ. Once digestion happens, since it *ceases to be under appearance of bread and wine* , therefore it ceases to Body and Blood of Christ. Quite enlightening to know how the purificators are dealt with since it contains the Blood of Christ from the chalice and also how the host is dissolved in water for 24 hours incase it falls down and becomes dirty....... The reverence and care❤️

Since our Lord, Jesus, is in the tinies particle of the host, should we be receiving him in the hand? I’ve seen people clean their hand right after receiving the Eucharist. There are so many concerns with receiving our Lord in the hands because the tiniest particle of his body can be treated like it’s nothing. I hope the protection and reverence towards the holy Eucharist returns and it’s upheld by all.

Excellent point. It's something that really bothers me too. You know when there are large crowds? And the "Extraordinary" ministers are dotted throughout the church? I can imagine particles falling to the floor uncollected on the patten because there is no patten. And those particles being sucked into a vacuum cleaner or trampled underfoot. Also, there is a general lack of respect among the laity for what they are actually doing. Unsurprisingly, the majority of Catholics today don't believe in the Real Presence.

Exterior reverence for the Eucharist is important insomuch that it’s a sign of interior reverence and it helps foster interior reverence. On the other hand, Our Lord had rather harsh words for those who worried much about exterior cleanliness but less so about the cleanliness of their own hearts. As for the matter of receiving the Eucharist in the hand vs. in the mouth, I defer to the prudent judgement of the Church, which clarified both ways are valid, and to the indications of my Bishop.

@@paologat Your "on the other hand" has nothing to do with the question at hand. Irrelevant, so to speak. I fear people are "eating and drinking their own condemnation" by receiving the Eucharist unworthily. I have seen people receive the Eucharist as if it were nothing but a biscuit. Without the slightest degree of reverence. The only thing that saves them is they don't seem to have any idea what they are doing. But they have no sense of the sacred.

Exterior cleanliness is not the issue here: it's all about showing the proper respect due to our God and Savior. We, the lay people DO NOT have consecrated hands to touch the Sacred Host.

St. Molleran pray for us ! Naomh Maolruain guí orainn ! ( Feast July 7) St. Molleran led a reform towards austerity because of too much merrymaking at the saints' feasts. Patterns were introduced such as walking barefoot through the stony bed of a stream 7 times ( St. Brógan and St. Quan 's holy well) or walking around the church 7 times reciting the rosary ( St. Declán 's ) ,come rain, hail or shine. People used a small stone to scratch out a cross on ancient ruins and leave their mark.

Day 188 takeaways: Christ’s presence in the Eucharist- Jesus is truly present to us in many ways - in scripture; in the poor, sick, imprisoned and in the person of the priest. Jesus presence in the Eucharist is unique in that God makes Himself wholly and entirely present IN EVERY PARTICLE of the Consecrated Bread and Wine. The Eucharist IS the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ. It is beyond our understanding, but it is not cannibalism. The God who created the entire Universe out of nothing, is certainly able to change the nature of one substance into another. This was the belief from the very beginning which is challenging to many. In John’s Gospel it says that many people left Him over this teaching. The words of Consecration are pronounced by the priest, but the power and grace are from God. Yet there is an intrinsic connection between the reality of Christ’s presence in the Eucharist and the ministry and action of the priest. After Consecration, the appearance remains the same but the entire substance changes. This is called TRANSUBSTANTIATION. It is so profound that once the Bread and Wine are consecrated, it remains consecrated until the accidents of the Bread and Wine disappear. There are specific procedures for disposing of Consecrated Hosts and Consecrated Wine that might have fallen or spilled. “Lord to dwell in the doorway of your temple is better than a thousand days anywhere else.

Why isn't affirmation of belief in the true presence of Jesus in the Eucharist included in the Creed? The omission of this central Catholic belief in the Creed seems incredible. It's not surprising that so many Catholics don't believe in the real presence.

I think we are missing the beauty of the matter that being we who came into being at the origin were both transubstantiated and consubstantiated, that being Adam was made from the earth and Eve of Adam's bone. Here at the Eucharist the originally transubstantiated and consubstanstiated receive Christ Jesus transubstantiated. Now Jesus is transubstantiated: Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity, whereas man and woman became body, blood and soul lacking in divinity, yet so humble a being the average Joe on the street pays no mind they are bound for divinity as shared by God, Himself. We as Catholic, members of Christ's Body share in God's divinity in every Sacrament we receive yet we so humbly do so. This is why Lucifer was so incensed at God for making such humble beings to be so highly lifted even above him as he was the pinnacle of God's creation and we human are not creatures as even the angel are but beings originally formed transubstantial and consubstantial not created from nothingness. This is why Satan tempted Eve with the forbidden fruit saying it would make her as a the devine thus body, blood, soul and divinity. Satan thought it was like stealing candy from a baby that God hand given him away, the tree of knowledge,, to do away with these original beings. So mankind fell and lost the garden and Satan was pleased thinking he had won the victory but the serpent was cursed and he was foretold of his demise by the offspring of the woman for God continued to work in human beings, then enter Jesus' Cross and Resurrection! Satan once again thought, "I have won! God is dead!" but it was only Jesus' human nature who died not His Divinity and when God raised Jesus before He saw corruption Satan's head crushed, knew he was on the decline of his demise no matter what blows he gives against mankind and the Church. This is why to sin is so bad. We deny our maker to share in His Divinity while we party with the adversary. God loves us and treasures us so much and we on our own disobey Him. All He wants is to share His Divine Love with us so please, please be receptive to Him. Quickly seek reconciliation when temptation bonds to concupiscence and sin is committed especially for those unto death as defined by the Church. You humble being are meant for so very much more!

Here is what I don’t understand: If we are to adore and worship our Lord in Holy Communion and every drop of wine is Jesus’ blood and every particle is Jesus’ body, then why is Jesus allowed to be received on the hand? Particles are being brushed on people’s clothing and on the ground, being trampled by people. Where are the patens, catching our Lord? Our leaders have done an injustice in how to receive our Lord. He is our King! We should all be kneeling and receiving on the tongue. Just because we can receive our Lord on our hands, doesn’t mean we ought.
