Natures answer to the Stinging Nettle is the Dock leaf. Simply scrunch it up until you get some juice going and rub it on the afflicted area! ..the weird thing is, they nearly always grow alongside each other!! 🌿

I live a couple of miles away from the Royal George Hotel down in the valley and often walk up there for drinks or food. I walk and run this (very hilly) area daily and constantly feel so blessed to live here. It's like living in the scenery of a Lord of the rings movie haha. Great work to you both, The hills around here are no joke!

Very good content! ime, one thing about long distance walks is that the memories of them stay with you for a long time. Two of my longest day walks in my 30s were on paths from Chepstow to Monmouth up the Wye Valley (20 miles-ish), and a similar distance from Badby (Daventry) to Stratford-Upon-Avon along tracks, paths and country lanes. The walks were not easy for me because I just wasn't very fit. But in retrospect they were both worth it - four decades on, I can remember both walks in fine detail.

Regarding 16:10 not feeling unsafe. This seems to be a specific thing about those from the USA. I remember about 30 years ago I worked with someone who was a keen hiker as was his father. Together they frequently went off exploring new hiking routes. He told me of someone from the USA who came visiting and he explained his favourite hike. They asked if it was safe. He explained about checking the weather and being prepared with the correct clothing. No they said, could you be attacked? The fact is no one British would ever think of asking that question demonstrating how safe hiking generally is. However cattle are a different matter. Every year in the UK several people are killed by cows. Usually it's someone with a dog but not always. They'll sometimes defend any calf they have and sometime the herd will join in with an attack. Just got to be alert to any possible danger.

Loved this walking blog. Loved the grit shown, blisters are the worst. God should hide his face for creating them. 13, 14, 15 miles per day sounds like nothing. We did the Nijmegan 100 miles in 4 days army boots, blazing summer sun. Fun in the sun?

Just regarding the stinging nettles. Unavoidable walking in Britain. Hand sanitizer will remove the pain if you put it on after getting stung. There are also doc leaves that are also found near nettles that do it but sanitizer is an easy thing to carry with multi purpose

I once did 109 miles in 3 days along the Jurassic coast, after the second day I was the same. New pain was a relief, also did the walking backwards up hill. Probably not a major factor but there was noticeable gap in between you back and pack which would make it a little harder

To prevent blisters when hiking, wear 2 pairs of socks, the inner pair rubs against the outer pair instead of your skin. Hope this tip isn't too late!

@@Off.Day.Adventures When I was very young I was on holiday on a farm in North Wales. I was walking alongside a small river and decided to walk along the trunk of a large tree that had fallen down. Didn't realise how slippery it was with algae and fell off straight into a large bed of stinging nettles. I was only wearing swimming trunks. Boy of boy did that hurt!

Why. They are obviously not used to walking long distances. If they had been on a longer hike they could have pushed the millage as they get used to it. Hopefully they will go out for a ten to fifteen mile walk at once a week so that there feet etc remain conditions to walking. Get two pairs of trekking poles which will make the walking about 10% easier more on hills. In the summer in the UK most paths are dryish so you can get away with walking shoes with hiking socks. It can be different in winter and they are good if rocky and you need more ankle support. They can also look at what they were carrying and get rid of some stuff. Next time maybe twenty mile days.
