Morning Olly Worked for a well known (then!) Crisp Manufacturer for over 10 years. The "air" in packs is actually Nitrogen (78% of the air we breathe is Nitrogen) It reduces oxidation so Crisps have longer shelf life. The foil packs used now help to stop Oxygen getting into the packs. When they first came out I had to set light to a pack to show the Prison Service that they couldn't be used by inmates to cook up 😸 Packs are filled with Nitrogen as it also protects Crisps breaking during distribution. Enjoy Upper Slaughter - Had a great week at Scout camp there in the 70's. Just a Farmers field alongside the River Eye.

Lol.. ... I used to pick spuds with an old ransomes 1 row digger, took about 15 mins to toss up a drill, then on the hands and knees for about 3 hours per row to throw them into 5 gallon buckets.. Then off to the shed to sort them by hand on a very simple row cleaner and bagger.. This machine makes my life sad, happy, happy, sad !!! Hahaha

I paid my way through university with potato picking some 35 years ago. It wasn’t quite so mechanised, we had something on the back of the tractor to turn over the spuds, then a crate between our legs and hand picked it all. Killing on the back and only punctuated by a week of straw which was a nice distraction but very prickly. Paid well and I got my first degree without any debt. Pembrokeshire new potatoes were the best.

Followed the wheeled version of this yesterday, it was on my mates during the week , amazing how fast it picks them . Yes the potato fruits are poisonous, potatoes are related to deadly nightshade.

you should see the size of the Grimme sugar beet harvesters that are near my Gran's in Newark! Also, the MAN TGX lorries they use as well are massive that transport the beet to the British Sugar Factory on the edge of Newark.

90%, helped the missus tag a highland calf for a nearly blind friend, put 1st bale of hay in for our highlands, then had tea, didn’t look half as good as that beef & yorkies 👍

Yip that harvester is unreal!! And it’s system to fill the trucks!! In 🇮🇪 most spuds harvested go into boxes off the harvester!!! I also remember picking spuds by hand for pocket money!!!

Root crop farm I worked on a few years ago, had a varitron, but I think it was a 220?? But it had the grader on the back of it, 6 of us used to sit in the back of it, and that would hold about 2 tonne I think, used to fill 2 boxes at a time, hated loading boxes.

An amazing machine but I think it really is designed for well drained fenland soil. Take that into a wet field in November in certain parts of the UK and it will be stuck in minutes. My father grew potatoes for a well known frozen chip manufacturer. They lifted potatoes when the factory needed them and regardless of weather or soil conditions, so they used machines pulled by tractors rather than self-propelled. In wet winter weather the wheeled tractors needed assistance and so they put caterpillar tractor on the front end pulling in tandem to keep the ground speed up.

Olly do you notice a significant difference in the wheat going in after the beans versus the stuff going after the buckwheat?
