Watched it for the first time when I just found Iron Maiden 14 years ago. I was 13 at that time. It was the start of my journey through metal and rock and music in general. Came across so many great genres and bands in the last 14 years. This song is still one of my favorites today. Still underrated tho.

I love how the song and the video sync with one another so well at 1:32, with the lyric "Enter hells gates" and showing the doors of the transport craft opening and the machine guns firing at the soliders. Very symbolic.

People forget what a gamble this mission was. We had to fool the Germans and keep them guessing where we were going to strike fortress Europe. It could’ve easily gone sideways, but thank God, it didn’t. Our eternal gratitude to those who gave everything to bring down the greatest evil our world has ever known.

By the time the german army was already decimated by the red army. So, of course, allied troops were very brave on D-day, but no, they didn't play a big role.
@matthewwhite3967
@matthewwhite3967 Жыл бұрын
@@sergiosolano6773 How do you figure? Yes, Soviet forces and people suffered the heaviest casualties and subsequently inflicted heavy casualties on Nazi forces. But that fighting was mainly in Russia and the Eastern European countries. I'm not denying Russias success in the war, but their involvement didn't help on the Western European front as much. Can we admit it was definitely a joint effort? Lets also not forget that Soviets were in alliance with the Nazis at the start of the war when they were attempting to split up Poland and the nearby countries amongst themselves. It was the Nazis betrayal and invasion of the USSR that brought the Soviets to the Allies.
@sergiosolano6773
@sergiosolano6773 Жыл бұрын
@@matthewwhite3967 You don't have to figure out anything, numbers speak for themselves, the soviets caused 95% of the german casualties. Germany and The Soviet Union were not allies, they signed a non agression pact called Molotov-Ribbentrop, thats completely different.
@matthewwhite3967
@matthewwhite3967 Жыл бұрын
@@sergiosolano6773 Yeah, they signed a "non-aggression treaty" with the Nazi's and then proceeded to invade Poland with them in 1939. But, no, they weren't "allies" were they? They just invaded the same country and turned a blind eye to them. And they also invaded Finland at the same time. Russia then doesn't seem so different from Russia now, when you look at their history. But that's not the point anyway. You're playing a numbers game here. I'm not denying the Soviets killed more Nazi's and paid a higher toll than the other allies. But that's not what won the war alone. The bulk of the USSR's involvement was on the Eastern front, fighting in the own territory and preventing a successful takeover of Russia. Yes, they should be commended for that. But you're undermining the rest of the Allies involvement by suggesting that D-Day and the liberation of France wasn't directly involved with the eventual blockade of Berlin and the fall of Nazi Germany. Sheer numbers alone aren't the determining factor in a war fought on several fronts, such as WW2. So yes, lets not undermine Russias involvement, but don't act like they single handedly won the war themselves. That's revisionist history at best and just plain ignorance at worst.
