A little background: I am entering my fourth year as a consultant at a global management consulting firm in Tokyo. I was promoted a year ago, and have been getting used to my new role, taking on new responsibilities like project management while still doing the day-to-day consultant work like conducting desk research, designing market research, moderating subject-matter expert interviews, and executing data analysis!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I was able to film a day at work when I was in-between projects and had some down time! I'll be taking you along with me to my office and showing you what my day can look like at work (when I'm not super busy with my projects). Hope you enjoy!
Hello Eri! What a nice channel! I'm really interested in consulting, but I've just started uni. Could you recommend me some materials to read? Also, how much would you suggest searching for an MBA in Japan? Thanks!
@etomibebe
@etomibebe Жыл бұрын
Hey Lucca! Thanks for your comment :) Not sure what type of materials you’re interested in, but if you’re trying to learn more about consulting & what consultants do, I would recommend reaching out to people working at different consulting firms (e.g., through LinkedIn) and understanding what they do on a day-to-day since consulting is such a broad term and there are many different paths within consulting. Once you network with people & decide what type of consulting you want to go into, you can prepare for case studies which you will most likely have to take when you’re going through the interview process. If you want to be extra prepared, it wouldn’t hurt to practice your skills on excel and ppt since you’ll most likely use those at work. I don’t know much about MBAs in Japan, but I would recommend holding off on getting an MBA until you get a few years of work experience under your belt. That way, you 1) can make a more informed decision on whether an MBA is beneficial to you with the career path you want to pursue, and 2) might even be able to get your employer to support you financially to get your MBA degree. Hope this is helpful😊
Liked the video, very interesting. Serious question, do all Japanese use this much single use plastics? Honestly surprised by this and hoping it ain't true
@etomibebe
@etomibebe 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment, and yes, unfortunately single-use plastic is still very prominent in Japan and although we are careful about separating the trash so that plastic would be recycled, the truth is that a lot of that plastic ends up either burned for energy (which produces CO2) or not recycled at all… Japan as a country definitely needs to put more effort into reducing plastic production and consumers, including myself, need to be more conscious about reducing plastic use, which is totally doable. Thanks for calling it out - I haven’t thought of my use of plastic since I came back to Japan because it just seems so normal, but I need to be more careful.
Hi, I just found your channel and loved it. I'm Kese, from Botswana. I wanna venture into consultancy, any advice on courses to pursue? Currently doing my masters in International Business Management
@etomibebe
@etomibebe 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Kese! Thanks for your comment✨ Hmm… I think it really depends on what type of consultancy you wanna get into. If you’re interested in data analytics, courses that help you develop skills in Excel, Access, R, etc. might be helpful, but if you’re more interested in market research / marketing consulting, then maybe a few marketing courses that teach you about foundational marketing terminology might be helpful! But honestly, a lot of consulting is on-the-job learning, so I think you should take courses you’re interested in while you’re getting your masters🙌🏻 That’s just my opinion, but I don’t have a masters myself, so I would recommend getting opinions from those who pursued consulting after getting their masters as well😊💕 Hope that helps!
I got this position at a career forum in Tokyo called Tokyo Career Forum (TCF). I applied online, went through 3 rounds of interviews, including 2 case studies, in a day, and got the job that day. The work-life balance reeeally depends on the project you’re on and the people / clients you work with. It can be as good as only working 8 hours a day, but it can also be as bad as working 14 hours a day. It really depends. Hope this is helpful!
Nice video but sounds like some soul sucking work lol. All those biz jargon is so non-human lol. Its funny we have to travel to an office we dont want to be in, and need coffee to mentally stimulate ourselves to do something we rather not do just to survive
