If undersized do you place them back as you found them? or just leave them for the fish to eat?? Just wondering 🤔

the paua get left in the exact spot they were taken. they are incredibly quick and grabbing back onto the rock.

99% sure they die if pulled off and put back after talking to a biologist. Doubt many if any are undersized before being pulled off though

Whats commercial TACC these days? I'd hate to fuckin imagine but I bet its something ridiculous and unsustainable.

The recreational/illegal & possibly cultural (at one time at least some permit issue was difficult to see the justification for, & undersize were also fair game for some harvesters, & some made it to the pub carpark market etc) is the main threat. Most places that become popular for the weekend Jafa (includes the SI breed) get hammered. Dive charters also are good at cleaning patches of paua/crays up. If many of the Huntin' & Fishin' out there doing it lobby were as good at getting pest species like deer & tahr & pigs some of the problem would at least be reduced.
