I was getting a lot of requests for a "day in the life" video on IG, so I carried a camera around with me on the last day of my family medicine rotation! I had a lot of fun making this video! Enjoy!

Hey! It’s really a personal decision and it is up to you. Have you shadowed a PA or MD yet? I looked at length of schooling, cost, job satisfaction, etc. I really didn’t want 7+ more years of school. Have you seen my video PA vs. MD? I share what I used to make my decision!

Great video! I just recently started strongly considering PA school. I’m a bit of an anomaly as far as potential applicants go since I’m a senior PoliSci major. I am looking to take a year to knock out pre reqs, gain experience, et cetera. ANYWAYS, I did have an unrelated question... where do you get your chinos? Hahah! I’m always struggling to find a good fit so I figured I would ask. I look forward to more of your videos. Great work!

Hey what stethoscope do you use? For a nursing student, what stethoscope do you recommend?
@DaywithaPA
@DaywithaPA 5 жыл бұрын
Hi! So, my program gave us MDF products, and I really didn't like their stethoscope. The tubing on it is very rigid. I ended up with the ERKA Finesse 2. I really like it, and it's much cheaper than Littmann. They have a cardiology stethoscope that is $175 (Littmann's is around $300). Of course, Littmann would be my second recommendation! You can't go wrong with it. Just a little more money.

Ive worked as a CNA in a hospital and Nursing home. I was a Supply Tech for the OR at a hospital. I did a front desk position at a behavioral health clinic for one year which included answering a suicide hotline 24/7. Will these ALL be worth mentioning or just my CNA work? Im applying to four PA programs. Thank you!
@DaywithaPA

Hi! Yes, list them all. However, supply tech and front desk will be health care experience (no direct patient care) while your CNA job is patient care experience (direct patient care). 👍

@DaywithaPA

That’s a really good question. In my opinion, it would as you’re directly talking to the patient. Your best bet would be to contact the programs you’re interested in and ask them directly if it will count as patient care experience. Sorry I don’t have a better answer! Day with a PA yep. Those were definitely big things. I used to do strep, flu, mono, CBC, and I stat tests all the time when I was a MA. Things like strep the doctors and NPs loved because we had the strep done before they came in the room and if it came positive they would go and tell them it was positive, write up antibiotics, and that pt was done. :)

Day with a PA I cant wait! I want to apply in PA and I made my mind up about the career a bit too late so I won’t have “actual” patient care time, but do you think it’s still good enough for PA? As far as knowledge goes? Or am I gonna be clueless since all I’m technically doing is typing and watching things happen, not doing? I mean I’m 23, so if I absolutely have to, I still have time for experience (MA, CNA, etc) if I really need to. But since I graduate in the summer, I don’t wanna take too much time off between undergrad and grad

It is highly discouraged. I had a few classmates who worked during the summer has the course load was just slightly lighter, but you’re studying all the time so you don’t have time for a job. Loans are what you live off of or loans + spouse if you’re fortunate enough.

Being a PA, is it underwhelming not being able to make your own decisions without running it by a night authority? I am considering being a surgical PA or going to medical school and becoming a MD. What are the pros and cons of it cause the career seems pretty relaxed but hard working. :)
@DaywithaPA
@DaywithaPA 5 жыл бұрын
As a PA, you have the autonomy to make all decisions concerning a patient's care. You can consult your supervising physician in cases where you are unsure, but 99% of the time, PAs are making the decisions concerning their patients' care. Of course, in surgery, you'll always be with another physician and you'll be first assisting. You'll never be doing the surgery yourself. PROS: 2.5 years of school, a lot of autonomy, less debt vs. med school, still a solid salary CONS: cannot practice "independently" (I wouldn't really consider this a CON but some would), salary is 1/2 that of a physicians, generally speaking Being able to practice independently is a hotly contested subject right now. Some are making the push for it. What I mean by "independent" is not requiring a supervising physician. It can get confusing, but we're required to have a supervising physician to practice. It's almost a misnomer. PAs do nearly everything a doctor does and this occurs without the direct "supervision" of a doctor. Hope this helps!
