Welcome to a day in my life as an instrument student at ATP Flight School. Hopefully, this sort of content is what you're looking for and to those who haven't started it yet, hopefully this helps you understand what to expect! Hit that like button if you want to see more ATP Flight School content like this! I have a lot of ideas so let me know if you want to see more of it!
Welcome to Taking Flight! If you’re new here, my name is Ethan Gregerson and I’m an 18-year-old student pilot out of Austin, TX. I’m super passionate about aviation and helping people, so I decided to start a channel dedicated to following me and my journey from a student pilot, to a captain at a major airline! As I work through my ratings, I will continue to make these videos to try and showcase the whole road from now, all the way up to airline pilot. If you’re interested in following my journey to the airlines, subscribe to this channel and make sure to like my videos to get this out to as many people as possible!
If you have any video ideas/requests, feel free to leave them down below in the comments and I’ll definitely be trying to get to as many requests as I can.

I’m currently attending a state university with a professional pilot degree and I really like how flying is embedded into the normal college curriculum. My goal is the airlines which is great because my school offers a restricted ATP which means that I can join the airlines at 1,000 hours instead of the normal 1,500 flight hour requirement. College was the option that suited me best but there are countless others that suit everybody else. I would do some research on the difference between Part 61 and Part 141 flight training and figure out which one seems to fit you best.

Thank you very much!! Honestly, I would recommend getting your private on your own outside of ATP and see how you handle the workload. I wouldn’t advise anyone to go to ATP starting from Zero time because it’s hard to gauge what you’re getting into. Hope that helps!!

Awesome! Thank you for the video. After putting some effort towards a PPL for leisure (about 40 hours, solo/pre-checkride phase), I'm really considering the career change at 27. I just got approved for an ATP loan and was wondering, would you recommend the 100 hour multi-engine option over the 25 hour? I know there are obvious benefits, but there are also some obvious drawbacks. I would love to hear your, or others', opinions. Any other tips are also appreciated!

Well, you should have planned the proper amount of fuel. If for some reason (I'd guess a sudden catastrophic fuel leak) you were low on fuel, youd let ATC know, determine if you can get to an airport or strip and if not find a suitable place to emergency land. No in-flight refueling in the civilian world as far as I know.
@sophiasocal68
@sophiasocal68 Жыл бұрын
Have you EVER run out of gas in your car "mid trip" to the store? Airplanes don't simply run out of fuel. The PIC is responsible for proper flight planning and calculating fuel consumption is part of that planning. When I was flight training I took off full of fuel no matter where I was going. Didn't matter if I was staying in the pattern or going cross country. If I could take off full fuel and make weight and balance I did. Have never run out of fuel and I've been flying since 1987.

So... You most likely won't be able to work during the program. You definitely can't hold a job, but you can probably do a little bit of on demand work such as Doordash or Uber on the side. Also, you won't be in the program for two years. It will be about 7 months total and then you can get a job with an income as an instructor on the side. You'll probably get to the airlines about 4-5 years after you start ATP
@jonathanswift7388
@jonathanswift7388 Жыл бұрын
Another option is to get through the ATP program in the 8 months they say, then work as a flight instructor until 500 hours. At 500 hours, you can get a job flying turbo props for charter companies or cargo companies. Which is FAR better than staying asa underpaid flight instructor for the full 1500 hours. Get out of CFI work early, go work the corporate and cargo side at 500-750 hours, make a lot more money and be a real pilot, and then at 1500 hours, go to the airlines with turbine time already in your log book.

@jonathanswift7388 Жыл бұрын
I went to ATP. ATP says 2 years. that's wrong. ATP underpays and you will make less than $3k a month as an instructor making maybe 70 flight hours a month if you are very lucky. Plus you don't have to go right to the airlines at 1500 hours. that's not the only pilot path. you can get yourself in a turbo prop at only 500 hours making 3 times as much as an ATP instructor. I went the corporate pilot route and landing in a turbo prop cockpit fresh out of flight school. I realized ill make more now doing this than slaving away as an underpaid and overworked instructor at ATP for 3 years. If you have the money for ATP, get your private first and then go to ATP for the rest of the ratings. Get through commercial multi, don't do CFI with them, and get your CFI certs elsewhere. Then go work as a CFI somewhere where they will pay a fair amount. ATP instructors don't even get paid for ground lessons which is 75% of their job. and they only get paid for flight time which they only make a little over $20 an hour. Working for ATP is a horrible trap. but if you have the money for the school, they will get you through fast which is what I liked.

Heard atp is super expensive

Depends on how you look at it. It’s more expensive because of the nicer aircraft, facilities, and resources available to you as a student, compared to a junky mom and pop flight school. Compared to college programs though, ATP is considered very cheap

I’m planning on continuing the series soon! I’m just in the CFI stage of ATP right now and it’s very busy and I haven’t found the time to film and make videos. But stay tuned!!

Hello there, I've been following you for a long time on youtube and really appreciate your work. The Content is amazing. However, you seem to be inconsistent on YTB and Instagram. I know you're swamped with work and have busy days. So for this reason I want to be part of this journey and would like to help you as social media manager. This will save days-hours of time and effort. Please let me know when you are available to discuss this.

This is straight up propaganda lol. I went to ATP and it was fast and structured but its way too expensive and I don't like the way ATP teaches private students

I agree. I hate the way they teach privates. I’m glad I didn’t go to ATP for my private
