I’m going through a career change rn at 20 years old. Accounting is calling my name because like I’ve always been good with numbers and in math (Ik accounting is much more than that). YES! some days I seriously just eat lunch and watch netflix because my brain just needs a break. I would say a couple days out of the week I try to at least do a little homework during lunch but honestly it depends on the day. Hope that makes sense!

@@duiry747 After u pass the board exam, u can choose from the 4 sectors in the practice of accountancy. The four sectors are public accountancy, commerce and industry, education/academe and government. Commerce, education and government are considered in private practice.

This video was helpful because now I can see what's the accountant looks like in everyday lives. I started working as a bookkeeper few weeks ago and it was a lot of work. I didn't know anything till my colleagues trained me. But right now, I'm slowly getting there.

Honestly you could do engineering if you like etc. It's just making the best out of what you get being on time for class, studying effectively , and developing an understanding as to how you could apply what you know to the work place. I've learned that fear will dramatically decrease your abilities in school.

R the quarter seasons months end better than 3 months for tax season? Or do you still like private accounting more? O you get to leave at 3:30 so that’s good

I don't think quarter close in private accounting is as bad as tax season. Of course, I've never worked in tax during busy season but I assume since I usually get to leave on time that it's not as bad.

Hey Sara, quick question. So I just started going to college for accounting. I’m also trying to decide what computer to buy. Is there a preference between Windows operating system and Mac operating system? What computer would you suggest for an accounting degree student who wants to become a CPA?

Hey! That’s awesome! It honestly doesn’t matter. For accounting the only program you’ll really need is excel and that’s available to purchase when you have a Mac. Personally, I’ve always bought Apple computers and I’ve had great luck with them but either would be okay.

Great question! Accounting alone wouldn't teach you what you need to run a business but most programs require other business courses that should give you a good idea of what running a business is like.

I was gonna go for Electrical Trade, but I don’t believe labor construction work isn’t for me, i love offices and working in one, I think this career will be right for me, gonna apply for it soon in school, I’m 18, graduated high school last year, and I had some choices, Electrician, Accountant, or engineering, but that’s pretty hard, and Accounting interests me more, your video was amazing, I’m definitely picking this career.

EC3 Changing the Game! Good news in your case is that there are so many options before you. Definitely get into your first accounting class sooner than later and let the fun journey begin. The stories behind the numbers and the hand in hand relationship between accounting and computer systems started me on this path about 15 years ago. Shout out to Sara for the sharing. I will add that after hours demands outside of quarter end can be driven by project and business transformation work as well - I am formally on the finamce side, but my job provides a lot of supporting schedules for entries. Great for the resume (just like CPA and/or MBA), but will lead can also lead to take home work.

I definitely want to go to university but don't know the specific course I want to study. I have ruled out my 'passion' as I won't be earning as much I would like to. I have recently been looking into accountancy which appeals to me as stable career to get into. The fact that its financial rewards are high appeal to me the most. I'm not the best in maths, nor am I the worst. I've never hated, or loved it. It's always been just ok. I'm not studying maths at a level and got a C (or a 5 as the new grading system) for GCSE. Do you think I should be even considering accountancy? Any advice? Thanks in advance x

I can’t study and listen to music. Usually if I have head phones in it’s to block out noise or when I’m watching a lecture. At work I listen to music while I work. I like to listen to all kinds of music but usually it’s like too 100 stuff 😊

hi just wanted to ask if you think it is necessary to do a masters in accounting in order to get a good career and progress in your career ? :) I'm only in second year of a business degree in Ireland. it's a four year course and I will get a bachelor's degree at the end of it. I really don't want to study any further because I want to start working full time and I don't want to do both as I've been working and going to school since I'm 17 so want a break from that

Honestly I don't know if you necessarily NEED a masters degree. For me, in Illinois the CPA requirements basically meant I needed a masters. I have not enjoyed my MBA program and don't think it helped me in terms of the CPA exam. Obviously I haven't graduated yet so I don't know salary wise what my MBA will mean yet. I will keep you all updated for sure!

I don’t work much overtime but when I do I don’t get paid extra. I’m salary so most salary employees don’t get paid overtime

Accounting is very basic math. What’s more important is knowing excel! I wouldn’t let others deter you. Maybe go to a library and take a look at an accounting textbook? That way you get an idea of what the material is like?

Thank you for the video!I’m 28 years old!Just finished the University of Music and performing arts in Vienna,piano major!My whole family are accountants !While studying music,I realized that I don’t like it that much anymore and I wouldn’t like to work in that field!Instead I’m thinking on getting a degree in accounting !Am I too old for that?

If you reside in Europe,I would suggest studying towards a professional qualification like ACCA. This would help you to get on track quicker than a degree. And it is more comprehensive as compared to a bachelors.

just found your video, I am a mom and a junior in college attempting some classes in accounting. Concentration undecided. I have been told so much negative about accounting that i second guess myself on why i liked it. Thanks for the great video, i needed that. Did you feel after your getting your BA you needed to get a masters to make better money? why did you decide to get your masters?

i’m interested in business&accounting . i’m gonna graduate this year from my secondary school (16) and i’ve to choose a course . i don’t know whether should i choose accountancy / business studies . i started a blogshop last year , really enjoyed it . but at the same time i’m studying principle of accounting ( very basic accounting skills ) , and i enjoy it as well ( i just hate theories a lot but i’m fine with doing accounts ) can a kind soul help me out and give me advise or smth :/

Can you get a good job (or internship) with an associates degree? I can't afford to go to a college or University yet, so I wanted to go through community college to get my associates degree which they say that when I'm finished I can take my CPA. But once I get a job or internship with that, I was going to get my bachelor's. But it seems like you can get by greatly with just the CPA (as in no need for bachelor's?)

In Washington state, the type of jobs you could get with associate’s degree is like bookkeeping and Human Resources. However, if you want the title of being an accountant from the cpa exam then you need a bachelor’s

Hello Sara, thanks for video :) I'm student of accounting in University, but I failed in Macro-economics because it wasn't interesting for me, is there an connection between accounting to macro-economics? I didn't choose to do this course, it is just because I have to pass it (the course is a part of studies). I really love accounting, but macro-economics felt different. Thanks!

Yes, there is a correlation between Macro-Economics and Accounting. From Taxes to gross profits to consumptions ( In Accounting it is called Assets). Have the thought process that Economics influences Accounting.

I don’t but I also wouldn’t let one person’s experience deter you. There are many different types of accountants and each company results in a different experience. Good luck!
