I met my wife while I was in EMT class.. She is a paramedic and nurse now.. She is part time riding on the Ambulance because she works in a level 1 Trauma unit as a Nurse.. When I was going for my EMT she already was a EMT and she was a medic student at the time she helped out in class.. I noticed her looking at me all the time in class she actually gave me her number to call her so I did and it all started from their.. I took her out to dinner and after we went to an escape room we had fun.. I think she felt sorry for me lol 😂 jk.. But I love her I tell her all the time she is my doctor she was by my side when I had my lung surgery she stayed over night with me helping in and out of bed while I had my chest tube in.. She took the pain away just being with me.. I love her with all my heart.. I held her hand while I was in the hospital.. She took some time off to be with me..

Not everyone gets out of highschool and wants to commit to something right away and possibly go into debt after getting out of college and getting a job you don’t want as a career. People need at least 2-3 years to figure out what they want to do.

I was a EMT and firefighter when I was younger.. But then I became the patient I had 6 or 7 spontaneous pneumothorax’s they removed half of my right lung 🫁 due to blebs.. I got a bunch of weak spots on my lungs.. I tell you what it’s very painful and scary it put pressure on my heart my fellow brothers had to decompress my lung to get the pressure off my heart.. The ER doctor looked at me and said son you had a guardian angel 👼 looking over you.. I said why’s that?? He goes you were very close of going into cardiac arrest if my fellow brothers didn’t put that needle in my lung to take the pressure off my heart.. My pulse oxygen was very low it was a blur to me.. I was scared not gonna lie I had a 5 hour surgery on my lung 🫁.. Plus I got a blood disorder that runs in my family that hit me as well.. Never know what will happen with your health grab life by the horns and enjoy it because you don’t know what will happen to you in life.. I’m going in for surgery soon to get blebs removed from my left lung.. Wish you the best sending love ❤️ from Pittsburgh PA..

Kind of a slow shift, but still interesting seeing what another department does. I was a paid volunteer for 5 years on a small department. We were EMTs trained in Auto Extrication, Wilderness Rescue, and we were on call via pagers. Eventually went on to an RN for 34 years, and actually got to ride a Flight for Life helicopter for a pt transfer from one city to another, but really enjoyed the EMT days most. Lots of war stories. I subscribed to see how you do.

When I was 18 I had no clue what I wanted to do so I went to school to try and be an EMT... I did a really short program and did not realize HOW HARD studying every week for whatever system we were assigned was. I ended up dropping out halfway through. One thing I continue to keep with me would be how HARD EMTs work. I miss the ride alongs but I remember going on my first one and realizing I could not be responsible for someone's life under pressure. LMFAO. Maybe one day I'll go back.

I'm always amazed at US EMS crews working 24hr. shifts. Here in Australia, we only do 12-hour shifts. Our fatigue management requires us to have a 10-hour break between shifts. Mind you our 12-hour shifts are full on, with meal extra time on just about every shift (paid double time until a meal break is finished). When I worked in a rural area, we worked 8- or 10-hour dayshifts and took an ambulance home for on call.

@@amandajacobo3582 It depends.. I was able to take my EMT course my senior year in high school but the health/medical classes started since i was a freshman. Some school districts offer a variety of courses in the medical field. For example my school district offers Pharmacy tech, Nurses Assistant and EMT. But it all depends on what your school offers. Some students were able to test for the NREMT because the were already 18 during their senior year others had to wait until they turned 18 to be able to test. I know some community colleges offer the course but i believe you must be a graduate from high school in order to take the course.

I am an EMT-B. In Minnesota. And we don't have any Paramedics or A EMTs. We are strictly EMT-B. If we get a ALS call we use a RN or will call in a ALS unit to transport the patient. We STEMI patients via air care and Traumas go to level 1 or 2 hospitals. Where I sleep is at the end of the hall in the hospital. I was in Cumberland MD last year on a trip very nice area. I don;'t know how far you are from there. But I am paid EMT employed for a hospital that has only 1 ambulance service in their system. Rest are all volunteer or First Responder. Stay safe and I enjoy for videos. BTW Get a Stryker cot those are better on backs than Ferno. We are just getting the Liffepak 15. We have the Zoll X series and I despise using them!
