Thanks for hitting the road with me again today. We're headed to the quaint little Texas town that calls itself "The Most Historic Small Town in Texas" and they may actually be right. This town is one of the oldest settlements in the entire state and I'm talking about Bastrop, Texas.

Ahh...young Chet....still thinking local Austin Daytripper....so glad you expanded there Chet! For me? Yeah, I've blown through Bastrop many times on my way to Houston or Brenham or Richmond, etc.

You have no idea how much I want to cry when I that bridge 1:51 I grew up one street away from that bridge with my grandma in south Austin on Montopolis Street & near East Riverside. They made that area into a highway and is in process of getting rid of the bridge

Hey, Chet Garner - If you read this, you should also post the "Return to Bastrop" episode from Season 3 on KZfaq. You might want to include a personal video introduction to the episode, Chet, in which you explain to viewers what happened: "In 2009, during our first season, we visited Bastrop. In 2011, the area was hit by devastating wildfires. In the episode that you're about to watch, we return to Bastrop to see how the area was recovering from the wildfires. It's a tribute to the resiliency and determination of the people of Bastrop."

Chet you forgot the most important stops in Bastrop. The Texas Chainsaw Gas Station, The Colorado River Bridge, that was used in Texas Chainsaw 2’s opening scene & Farm to Market Rd. 1209, where the playing chicken with choptop's truck happened. Plus, the Gas Station has some of the best Barbecue in Bastrop & it has a great novelty shop inside, as well as cabins out back to stay in. You can also see the replica of the original TCM van & replica of Drayton Sawyer's truck. They always have celebrity guest out there. Also, one of the coolest Haunted houses is out there or should I say Wicked Halloween park, Scream Hollow & it has a Halloween museum.

Its a shame a few of these places have gone out of business. But there is a good barber shop and tough cookie bakery just relocated into the old drug store after its been closed for years.

Best Chicken Fried Steak & Chicken in Bastrop County is at Gracie’s AKA The Grace Miller. Best is to eat there, then dessert at Maxine’s.

Next time hit up Pepaws for some of the best Catfish ever. A must-stop for us when we are traveling through.
