I understand that. I was that perfect blend of an animation and musical theatre kid (and still am), so people picked on me and thought I was annoying and cheesy all the way up to age 12. But that spark for creativity and flair for the colourful things in life is what makes us unique and amazing!

@@sothisishowusernameswork.2043 Its okay if you just think its likely but cant get any verification of such What i did when i first started figurin it all out was to accomodate things as if i wasnt neurotypical. So i just stopped listenin to that inner voice which told me it was wrong for me to do X thing or another just bcuz it discomforted others or made them see me as rude or otherwise Nowadays ive got noise cancelin headphones and dark sunglasses and even a pacifier for an oral stim (chewlery hurts my teeth bcuz rly bad teeth from lack of dentalcare) and a stuffy as well; and i always have those much at least when out and about, and i use them as needed. Always wearin headset and sunglasses when on walks, even at night bcuz its still too bright outside for me with all the powered lights everywhere And nothin convinced me more of who i rly am when it comes to my neurodivergence than those feelings each time ive accommodated myself and just kept feelin better in general mofe often. The first time i ever put my headset on i got a huge grin on my face and legit started to tear up bcuz it was suddenly so quiet and pleasant feelin and i just felt myself becomin more relaxed than i cud remember ever bein in actuality. And honestly it still provides much the same lvl of happiness each time i use it, esp knowin how loud the world always was before It feels similarly for me, tho varyin intensities, when i accomodate myself otherwise. It makes it so much easier for me to notice my needs, be it my hunger or sensory needs or otherwise, when im less distracted by the outside world in all the ways i just learned to tolerate growin up Its so increds how much better our lives can become when we start tryin to listen to our needs that we prev had been led to believe were just wants or were even convinced to stifle so much we cudnt feel them at all. You deserve to at least try to accomodate yourself and figure out what helps you; whether you have proof of a need for such or not, you deserve to try to find what works for you

Here’s a story from when I was in Daycare: So there were these kids in my group who would bully this one girl who was autistic, she was my friend and she was super sweet so I hated to see her bullied, of course the teachers were all about the making up with your bullies thing so I decided to take matters into my own hands , I made little air dry clay dolls of both the bullies and covered them in red paint to look like they were dead then I put them in the bullies cubbie with a note that said in my best little kid handwriting “ Bully my friend again and this is what you will look like “ and I had to get counseling for that 💀

1:45 It is to an adult as well. Once in Florida I started digging a hole halfway down a beach. A guy came along, saw it, asked what I was doing, said I was digging. He asks to join and does so. This cycle repeats almost six times. Ended up with a wide hole with a trench leading to the water, a large island in the middle. Guys were resting their drinks on it, sitting on the “benches” carved out of the sand etc. We did get one guy yelling at us since the sand would have to be moved back, but we were too busy enjoying ourselves and the hole we dug.

As a teacher I find that the daycare staff were pretty reckless during that Peanut Butter activity. If there is a child who is THAT allergic to peanuts, you shouldn’t have it in the daycare at all. Let alone in the same room as the child. Your sister was very lucky.

I do agree as I have worked in Childcare both with school age and younger and nut products are banned. My guess is that this service didn’t have a policy that bans nut products and was most likely during a time (90’s and earlier) where nut allergies were not as common. But I do agree that the staff were reckless.

I worked in daycare and we made sure everyone and their mother knew if a child had a severe allergy, my guess is the girls went to daycare in the 90s, when allergies probably were not taken as seriously as they should of been, I mean I'm glad they moved Rachel away from the other kiddos, but now a days, PB wouldn't even be allowed in the building if a child was that allergic!

The smarties candy story reminds me of this dumb fact I learned a long time ago. Dumb fact: The candy smarties is band in every high school in America because teenagers would constantly crush and snort them like coke. So teens were basically literally snorting sugar and it was giving them nosebleeds which is what led to them being band.

I’m not sure if this only happened in my school, or if it happened all over the country, (I’m an Aussie) but when I was 6 a bunch of kids at my school decided to try and “dig all the way to the centre of the earth” in the sandpit during recess. Eventually, after weeks of digging and finding nothing substantial, the operation sort of transformed into creating a some weird mini society in the sand. They would pour water in the sand to make rivers, place little pieces of wood over the gaps to make bridges, sculpt buildings out of sand, all while still attempting to dig to the centre of the earth. I remember thinking that the brown water in the sand was chocolate milk, even if it tasted nothing like it. And all the diggers celebrated thinking they’d made a chocolate river. Man, those were good times.

Yeah, the "cutting you own hair" thing is definitely universal. I was 6 and took a chunk out of my bangs just before Mom took my little sister and I to get our pictures taken. Thankfully, I did it off to one side, so with a little careful combing, it actually looked presentable, and Mom has one of those pictures in a magnetic frame on the fridge to this day.

Can confirm that cutting your own hair is a universal childhood experience. When I was about 4, I accidentally put a piece of gum I was chewing in my hair. I knew that scissors were used to cut hair because my dad is a hairdresser, so I took a pair and cut off the hair with the gum. My mom found out what I did moments later and got understandably concerned, but I didn't actually cut that much hair off, so my hair still looked decent enough that she didn't have to cut more of it off to salvage it.

I actually had to go to basically a secondary daycare after my main one let out for the day because my mom would still be working. It was held in a church and they probably thought I was some demon child 'cause every day we went there I would burst into tears and hide in the plastic castle and refuse to move until my mom picked us up. I vaguely remember coming out ONCE and the kids looked at me like I grew a second head. I stopped crying but I still refused to leave the plastic castle. 😂

Not quite day-care since I'm in the UK, but as a young kid, I was prone to nose bleeds. Every few days at the slowest of times. I confused the crap out of my teacher once when 4 year old me got a nose bleed, and while the teacher was trying to calm me down, all I said was something to the effect of 'I just need some tissue, I'll sit over by the sink until it calms down." It was so routine to me that I didn't panic at all. My eldest niece, nearly 20 years later though? She's got herself into a Becca level incident, also at the age of 4. She bit another student, then to try and save herself, BARRICADED THE DOOR to the room she was in so that the teacher couldn't get to her. It failed, and she got sent home for a day or two as punishment. Still not sure whether to be angry it happened, or impressed at the lengths she went to to avoid trouble.

I used to work with a little girl who would injure other kids on purpose (biting, punching, kicking, throwing rocks) then bring them over to me, tell me they were hurt and play the hero. We could never catch her in the act. She stopped when one of the kids snapped one day and bit her back. I asked her teacher why she was crying and she just muttered 'she got taught a lesson.'

I work at a Daycare, and being able to come home and tell my family about stories like these from the teacher's perspective is the highlight of my day. Taking care of young children is SO FUNNY (and stressful, but worth it). The little devils are the worst in the moment, but they give you the funniest stories! One of the kids I worked with once tore his shirt off (yes, TORE it) and started running around, chasing other 3-year-olds (who were screaming in terror) around the class while beating his chest and shouting like a gorilla. Chaos in the moment, but absolutely hilarious thinking back on it.

A fascinating thing about watching videos while you’re sick, you could stumble upon a gem like this. I may have sadly not exactly been in daycare, but I do know I was in preschool and kindergarten. There is one thing that my mother and father said to me, that when I was a little baby, one of my parents were placing around bottles of shampoo or something around me. And do you wanna know what my autistic brain did in that moment? Well, my baby self managed to somehow organize the bottles by how they looked, little did I know that I seemed to have a bit of a thing with organizing. Isn’t that neat?

I cut my own hair in preschool once. I was 3yrs old I think. According to the incident report (as my mother recalls it) it happened because I was left COMPLETELY UNSUPERVISED AND ALONE with those safety scissors at that craft table. No other children were sitting at this table with me, so I had no one to stop me tell me that maybe this wasn't a good idea. Becca's teacher looked away, but my teacher and her TEACHER'S AID walked away. Like lady, you had an assistant helping you in your classroom, and neither one of you were paying attention. I'm a toddler here, I don't understand why you shouldn't cut your own hair. I just understand that scissors are sharp and they cut things! Love from Houston!

I'll do you one better. I set my hair on _fire_ once. I forgot how old I was, but it was at my dad's house in AZ (I would go to see my dad in the summer). I went into his room for some reason (can't remember what it was) and saw a thin, credit card shaped white cigarette lighter. I held it up to my face like an idiot and lit it. My bangs went up like a well-oiled rag that was also soaked in gasoline. Thankfully the fire didn't last long, it was just a FOOMPH and then it was gone. But yeah, that's where I learned that human hair makes a great fire starter.

@@theduchessofspring2395 Thankfully I didn't get hurt, or anything. Scared the living shit out of me, though, let me tell ya. And I had a burnt edge where my bangs used to be, as well as a distinct smell of 'burnt hair' for a little while. Can't remember how much trouble I got into for that, but I'm sure it was a lot. I'm also sure my dad was laughing his _ASS_ off on the inside.

As someone else who is deathly allergic to peanuts I'm annoyed they even did that when they knew there was a kid with a diagnosed peanut allergy! Especially an airborne one. That was on the daycare honestly

I too have a deathly nut allergy. It goes as far to being avoiding mangoes because they’re in the same family as cashews and we can’t take chances. It isn’t an airborne allergy though. However, if I eat it or it enters my body through a wound or opening in my face, I will need an epi-pen to survive. I’m also allergic to eggs, soy, and bananas, so almost every vegan item, baked goods, and a lot of grain is off the chart. It’s so difficult to eat out.

I work at a daycare that has a very strict no-nut policy because some of our kiddos have peanut allergies (this policy included any foods that even might have been cross-contaminated with nuts such as store-bought cupcakes - rule of thumb is unless the label specifically says nut free we should consider it a potential allergen), and I was led to believe that this was universal policy for most academic and childcare settings. Even having peanut butter in the room could have been a huge risk to Rachel's life, especially since her allergy was airborne (even being in the same room and breathing "contaminated" air set her off). Tl Dr that was a really big oversight on the part of the daycare that would not fly nowadays.
@whimsiclaw
@whimsiclaw 8 ай бұрын
@@kylajensen1957 You'd be surprised about how ignorant schools are towards peanut allergies even nowadays. In my high school art class I was forced to do a still life of peanuts, and when I insisted I couldn't the art teacher took points off for me referencing an image I found online instead. That's not a universal thing though, I think that art teacher was just bad :( (Also I love your icon, ibuprofeN is amazing)

When i was about 6 or so, my families house had a little area we could go into obscured by bushes infront of the house, one day, digging their, we found a literal toy dinosaur in a white bag, and still have it to this day. This was around the same age my twin brother and I picked up a large bird carcass we found in a park and brought it to our dad thinking our parents would cook it for dinner.

I'm amazed they did the peanut butter craft with your sister anywhere nearby. There's no way they'd get all the kids' fingers/clothes/hair, etc. and the surfaces clean enough to be safe for someone that allergic. I give my kids ONE marshmallow, and I'm finding sticky finger prints all over the house... heck, I find sticky finger prints without any marshmallows... 😂
