Daymond John give his greatest business advice. I think you'll be inspired and learn a ton from watching this episode of Behind the Brand with Bryan Elliott
Daymond John, the founder of fashion brand FUBU and an investor on reality television show Shark Tank, sits down with Behind the Brand host Bryan Elliott to discuss his background and business philosophy. Raised in Queens, N.Y., John became frustrated in the 1980s that designers weren't making clothes for the inner-city kids who loved rap music. He made 10 FUBU T-shirts and persuaded hip-hop artists such as LL Cool J to wear them in their music videos. After showcasing them in 40 videos, "people thought I was this huge company, when I was a waiter at Red Lobster with 10 T-shirts in my basement,"
John says.
Over the past 25 years, John has experienced wins, losses and more than a few epiphanies. "As an entrepreneur, you never stop learning," he says. "I've failed way more than I've succeeded." He says one of his worst mistakes was expanding beyond what he was good at. Once, he decided to make a music album to gain exposure. But his team didn't know the business and "were spending money like drunken sailors." It turned out to be a bad investment. Now, he expands his brand by partnering with the right people and grows his business through carefully calculated goals and formulas for growth.

Great interview. I appreciate the fact that you asked unique questions that made Daymond show us more of who he is as both an entrepreneur and as a person. Really well done.

I love Shark Tank. From watching so many shows this interview validated what I felt about Daymond. I don't agree that you can separate how you operate in business from how you operate in your personal life. It's all about integrity, honesty, transparency and candor which are all personal attributes. In business and in life we all make agreements with one another and it's up to us to keep those agreements. If we can't or feel that they need to be changed we owe one another that conversation.

I was captivated with this interview, Brian. Congratulations on all the great questions. Daymond John is my favorite on "Shark Tank". His insights taught me more about him. I agree that he doesn't appear critical on "Shark Tank". He is an educator. Finally, really funny what he said about Kevin O'Leary!!

Might not be much to some but I had a boil plate lunch sell; turkey necks, turkey wings, corn, potatoes, sausage, cake and a drink for $10($9 without a drink). My goal was to sell 25 plates, ended up doing 50 within a few hours on a Thursday. No kind of advertising just woke up one morning called my uncle and we made it happen by word of mouth. Everyone in my area know I can boil, but it was such a short notice but ended up makn over $525 with tips. I dnt think that was to bad, and I run a full time trucking company. Just had some time on my hand and I was bored.
