hi congratulations on your (new? lol) laptop especially after so long, happy for you :) i wanted to ask how it's been holding up in terms of battery life and performance. i am a computer science student and i'm thinking of buying an M2 Pro MacBook Pro 14" from Apple's student discount. I'm stuck between the 15" M3 Air and the 14" M2 pro MBP.

It literally is just slightly faster chip and few perks like HDMI 2.1 and wifi 6. Everything else is same as M1.

I have the 2012 13-inch MacBook Pro as well. I'm looking forward to getting the Base model M2 Pro MacBook Pro with 16GB of RAM & 2TB of SSD because I'm primarily a Video Editor and Motion Graphics Designer What I'm really looking forward to is when the M2 Mac Studio comes out because I need a new desktop to upgrade from the Mac Mini 2018 i7 I have. As soon as the new M2 Mac Studio comes out I'm all over it because I need at least 32-64GB of RAM with 4 TB of SSD for that machine... 💯

I still have and use a 13” MacBook Pro from 2012 as well, though I upgraded the RAM to 16 gb.

I dislike the manner that CEOs has taken and our Government approved to achieve it but I do not Dis the individuals working hard to make it so. It's just a dirtbag move by Apple to not be open about this to consumers. The Pro models should NOT have this issue. Needing to throw another $200 to upgrade to the 1TB SSD to get the maximum speeds is just wrong.

Base macbook with m2 has a problem, so do research a bit before buying the base varient. They again used the same NAND technique as base m2 macbook air, where the ssd speeds are slower than the previous gen. they used higher capacity few NAND chips and this dropped the read write speed by about 20 to 30%.

What's the price of the m2 14 inch and what processor?

If you come from a MacBook Air M1, the base Pro 14” (both M1 and M2) will be more than enough - the “entry level” is such in name only, the machine is a beast and will handle 4k perfectly fine. :)

The base 14” m2 pro is more than enough, I have the 14” m1 pro base. I can even edit in 8k no slouch.

SSD is not the fastest on the base model but that doesn't mean it has ISSUE or it is slow. For average consumer it is fast enough

I think in some tests the 16" performed better over longer sustained loads by small amounts due to its beefier cooling. I think LTT did the comparison

@@TerranceNock haha! I'm not going to make a video i don't think. I just went to store and picked up a 16" today. I must say for the first day, I'm liking the 16 a lot more than the 14. The 14 I would say is amazing for anyone that travels extensively. You can notice a bit of a size difference between the 15 and 16 inch. - more screen is better in my opinion. Just adding in for my use case, which is mainly at home - the 16 inch is a lot nicer. Sometimes you don't want to work at your desk and the extra screen real estate is beautiful. The weight of the laptop isn't tremendously heavy, but the difference is noticeable. That being said I wouldn't advise anyone to downsize just because of weight alone.

@@xBlueDragonStudiosx I thought about the 16 for my live music sets but the 14 is easier for portability. Thinking about grabbing an m2 air as well. And leave the 14 home.

Not too well versed in motion graphics, but I assume it takes a lot of memory from what you need while editing. 64GB & 4TB seems a bit high on the storage side, I’d knock it down to 2TB to save a few but if you need 4TB by all means. The two configurations seems far apart in price, but you can probably get away with the first model
