Great song! Quincy Jones once said it was the best R&B song written. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a good audio quality of the song out there. This recording doesn't give the song full justice.

Yes, Fanny was a housekeeper who worked at the home the Brothers leased in Miami to work on their new album-- same house that Eric Clapton leased when he worked on his. The story goes that Maurice, one of the Gibb twins, asked his brothers whether their song would sound better if a woman's name was added to the lyrics. He saw Fanny and suggested, " What about Fanny? "Fanny, be tender with my love." The rest of the story--I don't know if the following is true-- but it goes that they later played the song for Fanny and she cried over the honor.

Fanny was a housekeeper -- either at the studio or at one of their houses. When they told her they were dedicating the song to her.... she cried, got choked up and loved it.

This was and is their masterpiece. The 3 part harmony is by far the best anyone will ever hear. I could paly it 10 times a day. Absolute masterpiece of lyrics, music and singing.

This is the first song written by the brothers specifically for Barry’s falsetto, which he discovered during the recording session for Nights on Broadway. It’s one of my favorites because each brother contributes to the song and the harmonies are absolutely sublime. They could never sing this live because Barry did a lot of the Falsettos over lapping while he sang lead along with Robin. The part where you see Robin singing alone, it's really Robin singing at the same time Barry is. Their voice together has a different sound. It's really amazing.

Part of the Bee Gees history comes from their Mother who once disclosed that when they were little boys, they would go into three separate rooms and sing loud and still harmonize perfectly.

I'm a bigger fan of their stuff pre-1976, but the best way to understand Bee Gees is not as performers, but as songwriters. It's difficult to be so consistently good at writing songs not only for themselves, but for others for such a long time. Barbra Streisand's "Woman in Love" is a good example. My favorite Bee Gees song is "And the Sun Will Shine". But on some days it's "Lonely Days". Unless of course, I'm listening to "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart" or "I Started a Joke" or....

The BeeGees really didn't sing song too often in their live shows because Barry said it was a bitch to get the harmonies together. It started out as Be Tender With My Heart and they decided to add a woman's name which was Fanny, who was their house keeper.
