I enjoy these types of videos. Gives some insight into your life as an attorney. Was this filmed quite awhile ago? The more violent type of "protests" have already died down here in the Denver area. I imagine anxiety runs high with the clients around family/divorce law as they probably feel some of the most important aspects of their lives are "at stake."
@aalegalfocus
@aalegalfocus 3 жыл бұрын
Exactly -- that's why it can be stressful handling those types of cases, especially when one person may feel like s/he lost. Yes, this was filmed months ago. No more protests now, & it's cold. :)

how often are documents dumped on you last minute? With custody cases, are you expected to reply to the client at any time of the night / day?
@aalegalfocus
@aalegalfocus 3 жыл бұрын
Last minute document dumps happen occasionally, although in my area, attorneys are supposed to provide exhibits in advance if it's a WebEx remote hearing. There's no fast rule about how quickly an attorney must respond to his or her client, but with some clients, everything seems like an emergency, and they will get mad if you don't respond right away. Sometimes if I'm feeling like it, I'll respond regardless of whether it's late at night or on a weekend, because otherwise, it's another thing I'll have to do on Monday or the next day. Some firms charge extra for after-hours work though. Glad some of my more stressful cases have ended. Thanks for watching!

Holy, looks like there's still a lot of traveling even w/ zoom/webex meetings available. Is there something that you do when there's long wait times for meetings and going to court?
@aalegalfocus
@aalegalfocus 3 жыл бұрын
This was actually recorded months ago. Most of the civil court proceedings have been postponed, due to a lot of covid-19 cases in the courthouse. The good thing also is that now we have calendar call in the morning through WebEx, and then the judge tells us roughly what time to show up at the courthouse. That way, we don't have to drive out there and then have to wait around the courthouse for hours for our hearings. Unfortunately, my office is nowhere near the court, so it makes it more of a hassle to go there. Thank you for watching!

@aalegalfocus
@aalegalfocus 8 күн бұрын
Depends on your own personality and interest. Many people/lawyers refuse to practice family law because some of the clients can be very emotional/petty/tough to deal with. I'm ok with it, it's nice to help people directly, & I enjoy it mainly because I'm self-employed now, so I get to decide what cases to take. If you work for a firm, no matter what area of law you practice, you don't get complete autonomy over which clients/cases you have.
