@@robertross1992 Well i woud think that Cole represents Dale for the fact that he enters the sport and Rowdy respresents Darrell Waltrip for that he was a champion in the sport and him and Dale were at each other but inlater years they became friends like how Cole and Rowdy did then there is Russ Wheeler who represents Jeff Gordon for the fact he enters the sport but not exactly like Jeff as i dont think him and Cole ever got along like Dale and Jeff did

It was based on Tim Richmond at Hendrick motorsports not dale nor Gordon because this was film in 89 released 90 gordon was in busch series at the time n still racing open wheel at dirt tracks

In this era lap down cars where to the inside. It wasn't until the lucky dog was put in after his death that lap down cars were put to the rear of the field or even single file restarts were made with 10 or less to go.

Normally I would laugh my ass off but in defence of this movie, I'm pretty sure one of its claims to fame is they were actually at the race track and cruise was driving that car in a lot of scenes or being towed for dialogue scenes, in other words, green screens were probably only used when he appears as tall as Nicole Kidman

Rowdy Burns was kicked out of the race by Cole Trickle.

Not passing on the outside of turn 4 was the simple, easy, safe play. I like to think Harry knew Cole could hold the outside every time (he has seen how sharp Cole's driving instincts are by this point, mostly during training, not the fail montage seen earlier in the movie). But that still is the more unsafe move so Harry didn't bank on it until he felt that the time was right - and Cole being salty about losing his first place to pit stop was that time.

Max Mercury (the MM) Yeah that makes sense. Now that I have you here, why does Russ just start slamming into Cole after he comes back to racing. Russ was nice when they met them for some reason he’s just an ass to Cole after.

@@STBR247 oh, it's pretty easy. russ is an asshole. For a longer explanation, the whole "act nice" thing is just that, an act. He's sucking up to Cole, a guy who has superior status just by reputation alone. Once the races restart, Russ sees that Cole's confidence has taken a hit and he's a few beats behind, and since Russ has gotten some wins under his belt, he feels like he can afford to be the bully he really is. Keep in mind that this is an interpretation and I'm no psychology expert but Russ feels like a one-dimensional asshole character, meant only to give Cole an opponent for the last race and make Rowdy (who has done his share of bullying) look more respectable.

@@derekwall200 bump and run, small sidesweep or general small contacts are usually tollerated on every stock car type racing, especially in 90'. Not only in NASCAR. Even in Europe happened during the golden age of TCC, my favorite fight was between Giovanardi vs Wendlinger😂

Dale Earnhardt Sr won some races like that. Rowdy Burns was based on him. There was a race in the 2000's that had a photo finish with two drivers rubbing fenders and the wall at this very track. Retaliation, rivalries and all-out brawls are big in NASCAR. It's often discouraged by the officials, but penalties are rarely given. What is highly penaltized is cheating and cars are inspected before and after the race. A lot of cheating continues.

Ricky Craven would like a word with you. Did this exact same thing at this track, about 10 years after this was released. Now if you want to take issue with the last race in the movie at Daytona, I completely agree. Drivers would not be intentionally banging up their cars at a track like Daytona where aerodynamics are important. Darlington does not see the same kind of speeds, so aero is less important.
