Very good to know daystate have made the mags backwards compatible, not many companies would do that, I don't often give praise to the higher end PCP manufacturers,I often think they take advantage of their customer base to a certain degree, however in this case I applaud daystate for thinking of the people who had brought new rifles before the Mag came to market.

@alphamilitaria2756
@alphamilitaria2756 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks very much. I appreciate you taking the time to give the feedback. With regards to the sidelever, it is extremely smooth and easy to operate - genuinely a one finger operation - and yet it has a positive, mechanical feel to it. Each phase is very defined and there's no vagueness at all. I like bolt-action rifles, but I've had one or two Huntsman where the bolt has need a really firm pull to cock the action, especially so on FAC versions. As a result, I have on occasion, pulled back the bolt but not cocked the action and then probed a pellet into the breach. The danger then is that you pull the trigger, nothing happens, so you pull the bolt back and probe a second pellet into the breach. Its not a problem if you realise what is going on as you can simply remove the magazine to avoid the second pellet going up the spout. It is still possible to double load the Revere, but in all honesty I think doing so would be down to a lack of concentration (or memory) because the sidelever is easier and more precise. That's what I found anyway. More videos to come. Thanks for watching!

You know, that's one sexy rifle, obviously though the LEFT hand version will cost more then the right hand one 😠 nonetheless, it still might be worth a punt, accuracy seems spot on, like the new magazine system, and like sidelever cocking, although I'm not fussed about a bolt either way, the finish of the woodwork looks exceptionally nice, I like it, I like it a lot.. Well, I like it. Except for one glaring design flaw. The very design of the rifle keeps you from mounting the scope low enough to get a decent cheek weld on the stock! Not everyone wants to mount a 100mm spotting scope over the receiver. Irons would have been a nice touch on a "field" gun.

I have a fac .22 Daystate Midas which gets about 40 consistent shots at 900+ fps . It will stack pellets out to 20 yards - maybe further. The limiting factor is more me than the gun. I will keep it indefinitely . Have taken 15-20 skunks and 7-10 raccoons . This rifle has performed beyond my expectation . Buy it if you can and you will not regret it.

@alphamilitaria2756
@alphamilitaria2756 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Len. I have to say I am a sucker for a bolt actioned rifle, and the Huntsman Regal is one of the best. The Huntsman Regal pretty much defined bolt-actioned rifles when it was launched 40 odd years ago, and ever since, it has been the epitome of the bolt-action sporting rifle. As a result, changing to a sidelever was something of a gamble for Daystate; they simply had to get it right and anything less than an improvement would have been a disaster. Fortunately, I believe they have got it right. It is very smooth and slick, and yet there is enough mechanical resistance to avoid the action being vague. I have to say I like it. I like the new magazine as well. Are you thinking of getting one?

Hi Richard. I'm looking at plenty of KZfaq vids, trying to determine which air rifle , scope etc, To purchase, with a view to getting into the sport. You have a very relaxed, clear and concise way of presenting whatever you are reviewing. For that you are to be applauded. Currently I don't own a gun. As stated previously I am trying to learn as many 'in's' and 'outs' as possible so that I can make better decisions regarding purchasing the right equipment. I do have a question, which hopefully you can answer for me. A .177 pellet has a smaller diameter than a .22 pellet, therefore my thinking says that it should require less air to push it, as the volume would be less. However you and other reviewers all say the same. That being you get 'X' amount of shots using a .22 but the .177 is 'X' minus 20 or whatever. This seems illogical to me. Could you please explain. Cheers.
@alphamilitaria2756
@alphamilitaria2756 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Roger. Thanks very much, I appreciate your kind comments. To answer your question, it does seem a little illogical that the smaller calibre would result in fewer shots per fill. I believe, and I'm sure someone will be on to correct me if I am wrong, that its because smaller .177 pellets need proportionately more air to get them up to 12 ft/lbs velocity due to the smaller surface area of the pellet to push against. I hope that makes sense. Perhaps of more relevance is that .177 pellets will fly faster and flatter than .22 at 12 ft/lbs because they are lighter and smaller. As a result, you will find that you need to adjust your aim less at different distances. For example, I have two rifles - .177 and .22, both at 12 ft/lbs and both zeroed at 30 metres. To hit a target at 40 metres with the .177, I need to aim above the crosshairs by just one mildot. However, on my .22, I have to aim closer to four mildots at the same scope magnificaton. I also find that with a 30 metre zero, my .177 is on the same aim point at 20 metres. With the .22 I have to aim a mildot under at 20 metres. All that means (and I hope this is making sense!) that when I hunt with my .177 I only need to factor in one mildot of adjustment for shots between 20 and 40 metres, whereas with my .22 I have to factor in a range between one mildot of hold under and four of hold over. The 'which is best calibre' debate continues to rage. I'm in the .177 camp. People will say that a .22 carries more impact, and it does, but accuracy is the key consideration and in my experience the extra impact of a .22 pellet does not compensate for an inaccurate shot. I hope that helps. If you want an opinion on different rifles to choose please let me know. We also have a range of reviews and guides, including a 'how to buy second hand' guide, on our website www.alphamilitaria.com which may be of help. Happy New Year. Rich.

@@alphamilitaria2756 Hi Richard. Thanks for the prompt reply. I understand what you tried to explain. Please don't take this the wrong way but am not 100% convinced by your explanation. It seems as though you also are not 100% sure. I have already determined that a PSP sub 12lbs .177 is the way to go. I rather like the Daystate range. Expensive - yes, BUT thoughout my years I have found the old adage "Buy cheap and buy twice" to be very true. I have one further question for you. I live in East Dorset. Having searched the internet for Air Rifle Shooting Ranges/Clubs, I have drawn a blank. I found a couple that are rimfire (I think) clubs with indoor ranges (25mts) but no outdoor ranges. If it's price it's not really on as they charge a premium for their guns, the least they could do is leave the good features on.

@alphamilitaria2756
@alphamilitaria2756 2 жыл бұрын
@@frankadams2401 Hi Frank. Maybe not a compressor, but perhaps a compressed air tank? You'd need to take it to a dive shop, or somewhere else with a compressor to get it filled when its empty. Depending on the rifle you'd get 8 - 10 fills from a 4 litre tank. A stirrup pump is cheaper still of course but you'd still only get the same number of shots per fill. Have you considered a good quality spring powered rifle instead of a pre-charged pneumatic (PCP)? That way you wouldn't ever need about filling with air. Good springers are as accurate as a PCP with a bit of practice. If you can let me know your budget (don't forget to allow for a scope as well) I'd be happy to recommend a few.

As long as you don't go below the regulator pressure you should be fine (and even if you do it will reset when you fill up again). I'd guess the bottom end would be 100 bar. I put a MAB light on it and the ODb moderator. Yet to put it through its paces. It's sitting in its case with 200 psi in it so I will find out how many shots per 100 pressure. I'm also trying to find out how many refills I will get out of a 5 litre tank for this rifle. It's incredibly hard to find out this stuff online. Thanks for your reply

@@MassiveLib They're both great rifles. Its more a case of which one you like better rather than which one is better. My .177 Revere is laser accurate and a real pleasure to shoot. I'm sure you'll be pleased with your too. Its hard to say how many fills you'll get from your 5 litre bottle - but plenty is the answer. And don't forget that once you drop below 250 bar you'll still get plenty of shots from 220, 200 bar. Have fun finding out.

if the main cylinder pressure drops below the set regulator pressure , then things go south

No. Just simply refilling the cylinder resets the regulator and away you go again.

@@alphamilitaria2756 yes but you missed my point , the regulator cannot maintain pressure once the main cylinder is below the regulated pressure , listen to what you said on the video "regardless of the cylinder pressure or the amount of air in your main cylinder" , which is completely wrong

@@patthewoodboy I think for most people it's fairly obvious that if the air supply/pressure falls below that of the regulator, the regulator will not fill. Using the whisky analogy again - you won't get a full measure of whisky if the amount of whisky in the bottle is less than the volume in the optic.

Hi Richard I have a regal . Just got a revere. But unfortunately the side lever linkage has some much movement/ play in it . I will obviously. Ware with use but very disappointed it left the factory like that . I don’t think Daystate are quite as good as there once were. The barrel shroud rattles in the barrel band . Poor for a £1165 rifle .

Hi Michael. I'm assuming because you say about it leaving the factory, you bought the rifle brand new? If that's the case, take it back to your gun shop and ask them to address the issue under warranty. Its what its for!

@@patthewoodboy You'll have, I think, three years warranty on the rifle. It will be an easy fix and if the gun shop you bought it from is a Daystate gent they should be able to fix it for you. Thing is an air rifle has to contain up to 250 bar of air. Your car tire has about 2 bar! Good luck.

apparently the revere is a sub 11 ft-lb rifle? not a sub 12 ft-lb rifle
@alphamilitaria2756
@alphamilitaria2756 3 жыл бұрын
Hi, and thanks for watching. No, I don't believe that is the case. Reveres will leave the factory at 11 point something. I'm not saying the odd one won't go out under-powered. Its possible - but not by design. The energy output will vary according to different weight pellets. As a result manufacturers will typically give themselves a little bit of breathing space by ensuring rifles don't ship too close to 12 ft/lbs, but not less than 11 ft/lbs. If you have a Revere that is putting out less than 11 ft/lbs with 16 grain pellets in .22 or 8.44 grains in .177 I'd suggest there is an issue with the individual rifle and you send it back to Daystate to examine under warranty. One other thing - people get hung up over a rifle not shooting at 11.9 ft/lbs. I have a .177 HW100 which puts out 10.8 ft/lbs and yet it is an amazing hunting rifle, pin-accurate and I've shot hundreds of rabbits out to 40 metres.
