Man…….thanks for this. Missed the 85 24Hour…..in the “hot pits” with my friends “GTP Light Mazda ARGO”car in 86, 87, 88, and 89. Lifelong desire to (since 1966 anyway) drive in the 24. 1990 was my year to drive. Our company “crashed” and my buddy had to sell the car. Soooo…..close. With 100s of laps on the course, absolutely love the track…just not in the 24Hour…..Daytona is one special track to anyone who has ever turned any laps there… Was there in 1966, 1968, 1969, 1980, 1981, 1982 and a few in the 70s with my Dad. Amazing racing history. Amazing place. Thanks for posting this…….loved it.

Oh man such a blast from the past! Back in a time when you could build your own car. No FIA bullshit. No homologated parts bolted on to literal cookie cutter cars. I was born to late, this is the era I would have loved to be a part of. I was 7 years old when this race was run.

Funny how they talk about how a small Buick V6 might not be reliable enough putting out that much power for a 24 hour race, when this year a 4 cylinder car won the 24 hours of Le Mans.

Great stuff though I would love to see the finish because that would be the last ever telecast of AJ Foyt winning ANY kind of race (he won the 12 Hours of Sebring race later that year but there was no telecast!) in his long and great career.

It is surprising to me how few of Foyt's victories are captured in either audio or video format (including the 1972 Daytona 500).

Yes, it is shocking. The four Indy wins on radio are out there, as are the ABC telecasts of Indy in 67 and 77. His last NASCAR victory from 72 at Ontario is out in terms of the radio broadcast (you could also include his winning the 78 Daytona qualifying race of which video exists).
