When 1.08 dropped I returned to dayz because base building is my soft spot . I didn’t know that the metal sheets now provide more protection as before they were very similar if not the same in base HP. I didn’t realise you couldn’t shoot locks off and ramming cars atm have no effect so this video was a massive eye opener , ty man 👊

IMPORTANT NOTE: To anyone who builds inside Buildings, know that there are very many windows people can jump/crawl/wiggle through even when there are crossbars covering them!

Built my first base this week but really wish I’d seen this video first. I struggled though it, took me two attempts, 2 hatchets, my platform stairs are inaccessible because I didn’t leave enough interior space, I had no idea you can’t add a roof to 4 walls and there’s a reasonable gap between two of the walls. The Xbox build system really isn’t particularly easy to use either. But overall pretty pleased with it...

You can use a pickaxe instead of a Shovel to dig the fence base and can use a hatchet on plank piles too :)

I had no idea that building a simple fence required so many tools. All the more fun to blow up those sweaty pillow forts. Grenade goes boom haha :)

Played Dayz for like half a month. Left for a couple. Came back with my own server only to discover there's actually a decent building system :o Great video!

I couldn't figure out the roof on the top level of the watch tower. I appreciate you showing how it's done.

Another thing to note- fire does not damage wooden walls (go figure). Also, gas containers do not explode. There is no way to craft explosives in vanilla although we have everything necessary.

Build in apartments top floor. You can easily put 6 fences or mor at entrances of floors.

i really wish you could choose which side the wire goes on a fence. Throws out some good base spots for console/vanilla.

Ever since the update building has been a little off, if building a fence that would clip against anything, like a ceiling or another fence you no longer can build. You'll get an option to build a lower or upper frame and that's it, sometimes a platform is the only option. And now with the changes to interact distance including the code lock you now have to plan your builds alot more

Great starting guide - but don't forget that the Pickaxe can also dig fence posts into the ground. Also there are a few more items that can be used on the lumber piles to get planks - handsaw for one and I think even the splitting axe works (don't quote me there) What about dismantling? :)

You can only dismantle fences and its attachments from behind the fence. Not infront.

Would be interesting to see how different guns are against walls and such rather than just the AK like the vega with a drum mag and such but still think the walls could do with more HP or figure out how to make raiding tools only on console to break into bases

You can now repair the crowbar with duck tape or a sharpening stone

in pc vanilla i couldn't interact with fence/ gate from outside. code lock gives you an a prompt to attach it but didn't show in the inventory anymore, same for barbed wire.

Hey, I don’t know if you’re still answering comments, but I wanted to ask two things. 1. Can you still kill code locks with a hacksaw? 2. Do you need to complete the WHOLE walls on a watchtower to add the roof?

Looking for experiences DAYZ players who are genuinely interested in getting a crew/base together. Tired of being shot on sight or betrayed the second I go to eat or heal or when my "buddy" finds a gun. I’m currently geared and ready to base build.

I don't know why they made base building so basic and limited in DayZ. If they had a proper freeform building machanic, i would come back to this game. I used to play the Epoch mod for the DayZ Arma 2 mod, which (although janky) had a proper building system.

About the barbed wire. I couldnt build on the outside of the fence like it used to work. Now I can mont the wires form the inside instead.

IMPORTANT; when building and placing a gate the right hand side will be where the lock goes , I jus made a base in a garage and now cannot reach the code lock to open gate ... furious doesn't come close.

I got raided with like 7 gates to loot but all of the gates were stacked up on this long corridor. I was wondering can bullets pass through other gates and damage the other gates behind it ?

I think they should add c4 that you need 2/3 to blow up a wall or HE/AE bullets

Could you do a raid testing on a wooden wall vs Grenades or even how many nades it takes to take out a metal wall?

Hey I really like playing dayz but probably for total diff reasons then other players. I really enjoy the looting living and building. I kno the game is mainly pvp but I was wondering if you kno of any official servers that stay more on the low population side?

So if you can get in behind their walls you just need a crowbar to dismantle the walls? Can you dismantle metal walls the same way?

After you open the lock from the outside when you close the gate from the inside does it lock automatically?

Do you have to manually input the code to get into your base or is it just a click of a button?

I’m on ps4, we do the barb wire from the inside in 1.08.

Even now In 3rd quarter 22 it's still too easy for access to your base..when u spent hours looking for wire, barb And nails then tents , carrying barrels by hand home taking over hour even smallest distances to go offline come back and everything gone and base greifed is not time efficient labour bonus..may as well not bother.

I found a base that has 3 posts blocking the door way and I cant get the option to take them out with my shovel after I destroyed the rest of it. Any ideas?
