Subscribe for more DayZ Tips: In DayZ, understanding the decay times for dead players is crucial for knowing how long ago they died. Here's a breakdown of the times:
Between 0 to 10 minutes you will see no decay,
after 10 to 20 minutes flies appear and make buzzing sounds,
and between 20 and 40 minutes full decay sets in. #dayz

But the despawning of the bodies depends on each server preference and the distance from the body to other players

Pretty much every server I've been on has had the despawn timer at like 5 minutes.

This is for official not community servers

This is always for official servers only. Yes servers can change things so most these informative videos are always based off official

I'm positive i've heard flies on a body less than 5 minutes after the kill. Talking about official, of course.

May have only felt like 5 minutes considering the adrenaline when someone nearby starts shooting after it's been quiet for a while😂

There are no zombies in dayz. Just infected. The survivors are also infected but immune. For this reason what you said wouldnt be possible

Is the despawn timer depending to proximity of players? Or is it after one hour regardless(unless you're in a private server)

Im pretty sure they will not despawn if a player is nearby, but numbers can be changed in the server config file so

Players within 100 meters stop the bodies from despawning

I thought the flies started at 5 minutes. And I once timed my run back to my body, it despawn in less than 30 minutes. Maybe my research was faulty.... Time to do some more science. Lol

If you play on console, that’s probably why I experience this on 2242 ran back 2 my body close at electro and only sks is there

Roughly, but that doesn't mean your stuff will be there.

Your best bet is to drop extra loot before you get into a fight if you can. Dropped loot lasts a lot longer than loot on your body.

Roughly. If I was you I’d keep all good loot in your backpack so you can stash it quickly before a fight. I also keep many stashes went I’m making runs up north so in case I do die I know where I have forsure gear

I've died and ran back in 30mins. Body and gear all gone. Only thing left was my m4. Interesting

If the body disappears around an hour, shouldn't the final one say 20-60 minutes? You say 20-40 minutes, but nothing additional happens at 40 minutes...
