Dude, the way this was edited is unlike any “filming locations” I’ve seen before. The in-shot reference was great, but the fact that it moves with the shot and how you pan the camera the same really brings it to life and makes this a next level presentation. Thanks for making this, it was thoroughly enjoyed

I was 14 and just graduated from 8th grade on May 28th, 1976. So I am amazed at how much of this movie is accurate. And naturally, it is a huge trigger for me. I LOVE THIS MOVIE.

Growing up in the 70's was the greatest time of my life being a teenager. This movie reminded me of those special days, and yes, I too was one of the lucky ones (maybe not so lucky) to have been initiated into high school (before of course, it was stopped). Every time I see this movie I'm transported to those great day's. There will never be a time again like this, and thanks for the great retrospect.

The way you edited this with the movie overlay on the actual location.. Top tier stuff!! Love this whole review! Subscribed!
@davidshanholtz6674
@davidshanholtz6674 Жыл бұрын
Agreed!! The overlays made it easy to orient yourself to that location and compare the “then vs now” comparisons! I love how they added little re-enactments of certain scenes/locations, like leaning against the porch posts at Carl’s house, walking off the baseball field, etc. I also love how some of the locations have tried to preserve the history and remain true to the movie! All around great video! I’m a huge Dazed and Confused fan and may have to visit some of these locations myself! OH, and great Wooderson impressions!! That’s a nice touch!😂

I even got a little bit emotional when you were standing on the 50 yard line. Something I wish I can experience someday. I can't thank you enough for making this video.

This was super impressive! The overlay of the shots really brought me back to the exact tone and feeling of each scene. Very cool that Top Notch is still there and virtually unchanged. There's an emotional connection too, it's a weird multi layered thing. Missing the 90s through a movie that made me feel cheated for missing the 70s. This was brilliant man.

I was born in 73. My dad was the football coach of the HS in my town. So as far back as 1979 is about the best I can remember. I would go with my dad to the football stadium and the practices as a kid and I remember all the HS kids looking and acting just like this. I remember bon fires, cars being beat with sledge hammers( opposing teams football name would be written on the car in spray paint) and the crazy stuff kids dont do today when school was out.

Matt, this is THEE best 'location descriptive' I have ever seen, for any movie, no doubt! Yeah, I'm biased to the movie but I've seen a few set scene location updates for D&C and none of them even come close to this masterpiece. The overlap mappings are award worthy, the audio cuts are awesome and I just think that you and your girl did a really, really great job. I can tell that you did your homework. Thank you, brother. I grew up across Bedichek Middle School, and was going into 8th grade when they fimed there. I remember asking some friends who were in summer school if they saw the ppl filming, and they said, "there was a bunch of wierd ppl with long hair walking around". LOL!! I had my graduation at the football field where they got arrested. I have lots of history and memories with many places in that movie, Ive actually been to many of those filmed locations and never realize they were in the movie, before your video. Matt, thank you for making this film. I also loved this movie. I graduated from high school in 1976. From a small town 45 minutes from St. Louis. We saw Foghat in concert that year. I pretty much knew someone in my class that matched every character in this movie. We even had a student smoking lounge on our campus! Oh the memories and how times have changed. Last year we had our 45th class reunion. LOL😜🤪 ❤️1️⃣9️⃣7️⃣6️⃣

I was a senior '77 from Yukon, OK. My summer started on May 23, 1976, and I wish I could have had as much fun as this group of future seniors '77 did on that last day of school!!!!! We did our share of cruisin' on Main St. aka Hgwy 66, played Frisbee at the clearing at Lake Overholser and smoked some of that funny weed. We also drank some beers, but it wasn't Lone Star, unfortunately, because that was 6 point beer, and you could only purchase 3.2 beer here in Oklahoma until 2018, when the liquor laws were changed. They also changed the drinking age from 18 to 21 in 1984, so I lucked out! Yee Haw!!!! Alright, alright, alright!!!! BTW, it's not a mural of George Wahington....it's Uncle Sam! The best part of that time for me was the music!!!! Frampton, The Eagles, and Fleetwood Mac, as well as Kiss, Lynard Skynard, and ZZ Top were the bands that I had in my 1969 Chevy Impala with a 369 cubic inch engine that got 3 miles to the gallon. It was a good thing that gas only cost $.58 a gallon!!!! Lol Those were the days and thanks for sharing this video, which definitely brought back some great memories!!! Party on Dude!!!

Couple of factoids: The white building across from the Emporium where O’Bannion gets his just desserts was originally a roller rink in the 50’s and 60’s. And the football field is Nelson Field, originally part of Reagan High School, now called Northeast Early College High School.

I grew up in Austin and even though this film takes place in the 70's, so much of this sort of last day of school, 8th - 12th grade experience is timeless and universal. This movie makes me so nostalgic. Even though I went to high school from like 2002 to 2006. So many reasons why I DON'T miss those days, but those afternoons on the last day of school, well I wouldn't mind going back there one last time. I relate to Mitch in this movie. I was the young kid who the older kids took a liking to and accepted as one of their own. I just remember how cool that felt lol. Halcyon days of youth..

Very cool! Dazed and Confused is one of my favorite 90s films. And I agree it takes you back to the 70s, like you I was in high school...or well nearly in high school when it came out and I always wondered about growing up during the 70s because, for me, I liked so much of the music from that period. If you go inside the Top Notch they have some props from the film in a case on the wall. I know one of the FAH-Q paddles is there. And you're right, all the bar scenes were shot in the Emporium location, not the Poodle Dog down the street. I moved to Austin in 1993, a year after the film was shot and everything looked the same for years, in fact I assumed the Emporium was a local establishment already, because it stayed painted with the pool balls until probably 1996. Great video!

The best movie in the world I love it so awesome I definitely live in the wrong era lol I grew up in the 80’s early 90’s but 70’s would have been awesome

That north part of Austin is one of the last parts that still has the pre Cali invasion feel of Austin. Has not changed that much sine 93 when movie came out.

I lived in the Rosedale area off Shoal Creek on the late eighties. It was a great area and you're right, the current looks on Google maps look very similar.

Not anymore, bums and tent cities everywhere. North Austin has changed for the worst.

That was excellent. Thank you. The first time I saw dazed and confused was the summer before my sophomore year. From that point on I wanted to be everyone in the movie. I grew my hair long, I carried my baseball hat in my back pocket like Benny, I started smoking pot, we even would smoked joints on the 50 yard line at Ciampi Field. I’ve watched that movie 500 times since and will watch it 500 more. Again, thank you!

This is so well done! Always wondered about the locations. Same as you. Was in high school at the same time during this movie and it’s one of my favourite movies to date. Thanks so much! This is just awesome
