Yarnhub Mystery

2 жыл бұрын

Parachuted out of the back of a Boeing 727 with $200,000 dollars in ransom money. The unsolved hijacking and ransom by Dan Cooper aka D. B. Cooper in 1971 still enthralls today. We take you through the story adding in some updated information from recent interviews given to Rolling Stone magazine by Tina Mucklow, the last person to see Cooper. He remained calm and collected throughout the hijacking and became a role model to other hijackers who unsuccessfully copied the methods of Cooper. Despite the massive public interest and huge budgetary expense in trying to solve the case it remains today the only unsolved case of air piracy in commercial aviation history.

I love how there was a need for improved airport security since the 70s and nothing really changed until after 9/11. They had 30 years to improve it
@FoxLosst
@FoxLosst 2 жыл бұрын
That's not necessarily true. The problem is that would-be hijackers or terrorists can see airport security, so making that more secure will only lead to them finding ways around it. The US has found ways to secure aircraft. They increased the numbers of Air Marshals in plain clothes and made it mandatory that cockpit doors be blast proof. They also introduced the best security method: prevention. More emphasis has been put on the FBI and CIA to not only investigate incidents after they occur, but follow any evidence to try and prevent them. After 9/11, air travel was in the public eye so they had to make a move to make it visibly secure, and increased security at airports. These measures are mostly just for show and fail many tests to find weapons, have never for certain prevented a hijacking and are a nuisance to passengers

The flight attendants tried to remain calm during the whole incident. They were probably scared,but had to protect the other passengers and crew. The lady that sat besides the hijacker had the best chance for identifying the suspect. It appears the suspect had knowledge of civilian aircraft. He set the air speed,altitude in his favor to do a free fall with a parachute. He would have problems with too high of an altitude. You need oxygen at 30,000 feet. You would surely freeze at that level as well. Cooper was not dressed for this kind of stunt either. He jumped over a remote area. So he must have had someone helping him on the ground. Still a baffling caper to this day. Good video. Short and to the point.

I love the D.B. Cooper story, seeing documentary of this case on Netflix, a show called The White Rabbit, it states this story. One of the agents on this case talked about it and gave some interesting information. When the FBI searched the plane, they only found 2 of the 4 parachutes, some cigarette buds as you could smoke on planes back then, and his black tie. They examined the tie to find tiny metal fragments, maybe explaining how he knew how to align the plane if he worked in a plane factory. Now to he was able to get the bomb on due to there was 0 airport security in the 1970s, it was only until 2001 when airports got security due to 911. They also believe that he got his name from a comic book from Canada that the main character had the same name and did a similar thing by jumping out of a fighter jet and parachuting. When it came to finding him, they had very good facial sketching of him. The agent said in final, "If I ever find D.B. Copper, I will give that man a handshake. I love this story and really interested to see if he turns up in the future.

I, like most people, really want DB to have made it. But given the fact that he was quite lightly dressed, it was freezing cold and snowing, that he didn’t specify a particular route for the pilots to follow, and the window of time in which he’dve jumped would’ve left him in a highly isolated and inaccessible area of forest in southern Washington, in deep snow in the middle of the night, if he survived the jump then I can’t imagine him making it out of the woods alive. I think he’s still in the woods somewhere north of Portland, waiting to be found (or perhaps someone already found him and didn’t want to have to turn in that money).

I’ve been a casual fan of this case for years. Weirdly, after my wife’s grandpa died in 2019 it was weirdly apparent he retired at a relatively young age 50 without a pension in 1972. My mother in law said he lived off of a 250k CD. Back in those days the interest rate was about 10% which would give him a little over 20k a year in interest alone. That was a decent income back then. He traveled for months at a time as a pipe fitter all over the USA. He didn’t make more than a middle class living and it would not easily allow him that much savings. Then my son and I looked at pictures back then, and then hmmmmm. He deposited his money in a tiny bank on the Texas/ Arkansas border. Plus if you knew pops, he was crazy as hell and fearless as a young man. He was ex military but not a paratrooper, in the pacific during WW2.

Cooper wisperd into her ear “see you later”. My grandmas house has had several goust sightings as it is over 60 years old. I have heard taping sometimes when I’m at her house. I then watched a video about the incident. And my grandma told me all about her experience. The day she told me I saw a shadow with a brief case. Creepy

My biological grandfather actually *POSSIBLY* may be D.B. Cooper. It's a long read but I'll say what I know. my grandfather left my father, and his 7 siblings, behind in 1969. The family was EXTREMELY poor so he left them, and didn't make contact with them again until 1981. This is where things get weird. He was in the Air Force as a personnel transport pilot for several years, but something happened bad enough to where he got a dishonorable discharge around 1963. This explains the readiness of Cooper. When he left, my fathers family knew he would flee to Oregon ultimately as that's where he was born. When he made contact with them again he met up with my father and he offered money to him as an "apology" for the state he left in. But where did the money come from? A pornographic business in northern California. He told my dad that he got lucky one day playing the tables in Vegas and won around $200,000 in 1972. With that money he started a business in adult films afterwards to which became a decent thing for income. The meeting lasted many hours at a Whataburger in Texas. I guess my grandpa was also afraid he may be arrested soon as he was questioned about his identity from the police, and possibly FBI. My father didn't accept the offer of $150,000. Can't buy forgiveness. Now, he could be telling the truth and that case is much more likely. Hitting it big and starting an adult film industry is more believable than high jacking a plane, bailing out with a parachute, money, and surviving the wilderness to start some type of business to make income. I might talk to him one day, and if I do I plan on asking him if his is D.B. Cooper. He's aging day by day but hopefully I can find out the truth before he passes.

Back around 2008, There was a geocache near my home town that acknowledged Cooper's skydive. The location has been bulldozed by developers in the last few years, so I think I can describe the hide now. The cache container was covered by a bowl between two posts; covering the bowl and posts was a pair of pants, and shoes adorned the tops of the posts... creating the hilariously cartoonish sight of legs and feet sticking straight up out of the ground!

Mr. Yarn, I have heard of this story many times before, BUT! You give me different information others did not. If cooper or who ever he truly was is still alive today, I will honor him for being a calm person during this with no harsh actions. Also, what do ya like the nickname of “Mr. yarn”
