Yes, I know my hands are large/fat. It's because of a heart condition I suffer from called Congestive Heart Failure. Here's a link to some information about CHF: cle.clinic/2TdS2Ux
One of the symptoms is that is causes fluid retention, mostly in the hands, feet/ankles, and face.
It will kill me one day. I'm doing ok right now, but someday...

This vid brings up one of the aspects of amateur radio that I dislike. Since most companies that serve the HAM community know that it is predominantly older men that come from a technical background, they know that there is a market for over pricing everything from simple DC distro boxes to seemingly complex radios. This forces some(poor carpenters like me) out of all but the cheapest/diy HAM radio tech. Thank God for ham fests and older/richer hams that always seem to need to upgrade. There is no chance in Hades that I would pay $32 for that, let alone $100. Of course, I only have one radio,so the need for distribution is absent. If it ever becomes needed, I have three diy options in mind.

Anderson power pole connectors are available in much high amp ratings than 45 amps. PP180 connectors are rated at 350 amps (600 V) with 3/0 wire. 15/30/45 amp ratings are certainly common in the RC world though.

beefy connectors and simple. As long the equipments are fused then a hight input fuse could be used as precaution. Very neat. We don't use that connectors a lot, but it would be perfect for making connections to SLABS and high loads

you can't reverse polarity if you have your power poles connected to each other in the standard fashion, such as is used by Hams. But there is nothing stopping a red PP being connected to a black PP. That is why most of us have our PPs hooked to the other one using the dovetails molded into them. Many people put a drop of super glue on them and make them permanently connected side by side.

Apologies if I missed it but the anderson power poles are keyed; they slide together and lock with a pin.. this is what prevents the reverse polarity.

Pretty interesting, dude! It would be great for big projects, like speaker boxes, where you have lots of things to power, like bluetooth receiver, amplifier, decoder board and so on. 😃 Also, there are power distribution boards for charging lipo batteries. 😃

Something like this it's usually perfectly fine to go with the cheaper variety (esp. after unboxing and verifying product integrity).

Man, 32 bucks for a distribution block? It must be made from magnesium because there sure isn't much else to it. But I guess it's much better than a hundred bucks. 😁 Thanks for sharing!

pump the 30 to 40 amps through it and see if it holds up.. although it looked like it could handle it, nice thick tracks inside, but you never know,,, unless you go...

Hi, You have a great channel. Thank you very much for all the good you are doing in training the public in electronics. I’m attempting to build a Smart LED lightbox and it overheated. Please advise me as to how to make it safe. The parts are one SP107E Bluetooth LED Music Controller, one 16X16 WS2812B 5050 RGB Flexible LED Panel Matrix Programmable Display Screen and two 8X8 WS2812B 5050 RGB Flexible LED Panel Matrix Programmable Display Screens. And one ALITOVE 5V 15A AC to DC Power Supply Adapter Transformer Converter 5.5x2.1mm Plug 100V-240V AC Input for WS2811 2801 WS2812B LED Strip Pixel Light. I turned it up to full brightness on white and in a few minutes it started smoking. The heat from the 16X16 Matrix melted the +V cable ran beneath it. Is there a safe way to run these parts together? It will not often be turned up to full brightness, however, I don’t want it to be a possible fire hazard. Thank you,

I am new to HAM radio, but am building a radio go box. I was going to install a rigrunner, but a tech from powerwerx told me that the rigrunner drops approx 1 volt. If Im already using a 12v battery supply, then a drop to 11v seems loke a very bad thing for expensive equipment. Especially when transmitting....would likely drop to 10v or so. So, is this information correct? If so, I guess running a radio (like ive seen so many times on youtube etc) through a rigrunner is asking for trouble. Maybe just use the rigrunner for misc other power supply needs, but keep the radio connected directly to the battery through appropriate toggle switch?

your only market would be hams who have more money than sense or smarts. Not a very big market there. NO ONE in the professional comms field would spend that much on a distro block that has no fuse and reverse pole protection on it.

@@Elfnetdesigns Seems to me the Amazon one has a market, and so does the $100 one he showed. Also, they have many uses outside of HAM.

Power poles are ok for indoors stuff like an inline joint to a SLA cell that would need changing often but they are not good for outdoors and field use, they do corrode, the plastic becomes brittle over time and they break. this is why I stuck with the Motorola rubberized connectors they are not 100% water proof but they keep water out a lot better. Also why no protection per circuit? Seem abit risky IMO to have a distro point with no fuses on it.

There are rubber condoms avaliable along with locking pins to keep connection from breaking... Multi colored housings beyond red and black, roll pins to keep his red n black together, plastic welded pairs so no need for roll pin, and amp ratings from 15-350a as far as in aware. Very versatile choice in connectivity. 15/30/45 Amp "fingers" or crimp pins all use the same housing shown in video
