As a brown skin woman with a lightskin mother, my mother would always tell me growing up that she would pray to have darker skin like me because growing up she went through alot just because she was lightskin, she felt like she always had to prove herself and be tough.

What would you tell parents of light skinned kids? I'm ALLL ears to prelate my kids!🥺😭
@gingerlove9085
@gingerlove9085 2 жыл бұрын
i would also like to add that just because you have a lightskin parent or parents does not mean your child will not turn out a darker shade. i would get asked if my mom bleached, if I've permed my hair, if I'm mixed because of my hair (I'm dark skin, and it quiet f annoying, I do not find it to be a compliment. you just sound ignorant). I just hate ignorance
@RobandSijay
@RobandSijay 2 жыл бұрын
@@cvaldez4937 good question, first have them understand that just because the world will treat them like they are better than or different, to not treat others less than and to recognize their privilege in the room. We are conditioned that "white is right" so having lighter skin they are closer to white in societies eyes. They will be "tested" and treated like they are soft because they are lighter, so prepare to defend yourself and don't look like a target. They won't be seen as the suspect/aggressor but the victim in an altercation so that in itself is a privilege they shouldn't abuse and pick fights. By default we have been conditioned that darker skin is tougher and so it can handle pain better, that's why excessive force is used against darker people. Your daughter may be seen as "fast" and a 403 and other girls will see her as a threat so be prepared to lose some "friends" along the way. Your son may be bullied and pushed to fight because of jealousy, however the world will see him white-aligned. Same with your daughter but the hierarchy goes white man, white woman, black man, black woman, in that order...so she may or may not "benefit" as her male counterpart. I say all that to say if they want something in life and focus and do well in school people will adjust to them vs someone darker having to adjust to their environment. This is all coming from experience of lighter family members and friends and even the unattractive ones are by default "accepted" into society because they are seen as the better option of the two.... so there's that too, people will want to befriend them, date them, etc all because they are light skinned. My mom's Mona's complexion and has no female friends, Women assume the "she thinks she's better than everyone" even her sisters. theres a video about pretty privilege on youtube that also explains more. Good luck

When I was 14 I almost could have been molested. My father and uncle's best friend touch my behind when I was 14. Shiddd yhank God I had a father in my life. I told the family he was the only one in the family that believed me. My grandmother was mad because she's a uppity upper class black older woman and she's one of those ppl that think about bringing shame on the family. She's big on her image in the family's image. Cuz she damn near raised this man from a little boy and when this happened he was in his late 30s. He was still a part of the family then. So like I said my grandmother she didn't believe me. She was mad (AT ME🤯) my father literally went off on his mother, and I believe that was the first time he ever talked back to his mother. That was never his character that was my uncle who used to talk back even in his 30s and 40s. he will go to my grandmother now my grandfather and bully her out of money. Anyway that's not the point though. My father was like that's why things like this happen to children, this is why kids don't tell because ppl don't believe them. My father took care of it. I don't know what happened. I don't know what was said. But get this my grandmother still talks to him on the phone, still loves him, and is still close with him BOOM!!💥💥 Now he's suffering for it he's having seizures and got all kind of health problems. So I can relate with you Ramona. We made it though. We both have a son and a daughter, and we're doing well for ourselves. We are survivors. 💪🏾💙💙👏🏾👏🏾
