Raif Marshall anti ship and boom and zoom strikes

It's an excellent module, with some challenging learning of some unique systems, very analogue feel, but with some systems that were way ahead of their time, all faithfully reproduced, plus it still looks incredible. Put it in an anti-ship scenario against unarmed or lightly armed opponents and it rocks. Problem comes when going up against modern stuff (not just air assets, but combat ships) and it has rather a tough time, largely because of the AI's tendency to "cheat". This is by no means the fault of the Viggen or Heatblur, but it becomes really frustrating.

Me too. When I wanted to give it a try a few weeks ago, the free trial period had ended (let us say, it wasn't extended like for most other modules) , and now I know I want to try it. I know this module is phenomenal, and I know it's priced right, considering its quality and the efforts put in its development. But sometimes, small things can make a big difference, and a sale would probably win me (I have bought the Viggen already).

And I answer to my own questions. There is a sale. My birthday is in two days. Ok. You've won, I'll get you, Kitty...

ive been waiting a year to buy the Tomcat. No one is going to spend 80.. when they can get a Harrier for 35, every 4 months, a Mirage for 30 every 4 months, a 20 dollar MiG15, hell i got the Black Shark for 14 dollars, with my miles and 50 off. The only module i ever bought at full price was the Warthog, in 2012. ive bought 6 on sale in the last year. I will honestly buy the Mi8 on sale, before i buy a full price Tommie or Viggen. I just cant afford it. Commerce, factors in time.. every day lost, is a sale lost.

@@getsideways7257 No, I'm not blaming them, it's impossible to make everyone happy. Obviously lots of people took advantage and had lots of fun. It would have been easier though if such an opportunity for something as complex and requiring as much time as DCS were better aligned with the almost completely universal season when everyone has time. It's a game, but not one I'd play half-assed. You either do one thing, or the other.

@@lfox02 Before this overly "interesting" year struck, there was no way to check any of the payware modules whatsoever. I had to basically buy them all blindly. After the free month came around, there was no use in it for me anymore, since I already had all they had to offer, while neither the Channel map, nor the P-47 were released yet (ironically, I was quite positive I didn't need either of them at the moment). So, it's just so happened I was unlucky in that regard. But does that mean they should have adjusted to me better? Would have been nice, but what's even the point of mentioning that? As you said, they can't exactly adapt to everybody's needs. And that's probably why they decided on a whole month, unlike a certain developer here... It's a lot of time to sample what you want to sample even if you are mostly busy during that time. Now, there are also other sims... Take the FSX/P3D platform for example. Previously I heard there was a certain developer with certain addons that come quite close to DCS modules, at least in the terms of flight modeling, but they cost on par with the top DCS modules. That developer could care less about giving you a test drive. You either take it without any promises or simply move along. I decided to take that plunge and I won. But what if it turned out not what I expected at all? As for ED, they've made everyone spoiled for sure... A free continuously updated engine, relatively frequent discounts and pre-orders (and the miles too)... even some free content at that. And then the free month with 50% discount. But people are never happy. They only praise whoever else comes into their mind, including Heatblur who after all these years can't optimize their darn thing and fix the darn replays already. ED though? It's already good for them if nobody is bashing them at the moment... Double standards at their finest. Out of pure curiosity, try to do a little research on what it takes to switch to Prepar3d and make a combat flight sim out of it (with decent cameras and replay recording capabilities, among other things). Chances are, you'll start seeing ED in a whole new light. That's not to mention every major version of P3D always costs the same amount of money and comes with a mostly useless set of aircraft that is bound to be one of the reasons P3D is not exactly cheap.

@@getsideways7257 Oh, I know how hard ED work and how much flak they get. They're pretty much at the top of the modern combat flight sim ladder, with the advantages and disadvantages that brings. Of course it's incredibly kind for a developer of this kind to offer a test ride or period, let alone a week at a time. It might sound like something a choosing beggar might say, "how dare you ask for more, is this act of kindness not enough for you?", but we know that flight sims have an extremely wide demographic, if not mass appeal. Thus, some of these people might have to work very long hours, study, or similarly have an inability to spend a meaningful amount of time having fun during certain periods. Is it ED's fault that some people are busy? Of course not! I don't blame them for anything. I am but one person out of hundreds of thousands, and ED doesn't have to worry about such financial small fry. Again, obviously lots of people enjoyed the dookie out of the trial month. So what's the point of my complaint? It's important for ED to hear their customer base, even if it's a small section. It seems to have personally irked you far more than it would affect any of the people of the mighty Eagle. So, even if it's a small inconvenience, we can't expect a company to serve their customers well without feedback. Despite this, I am very grateful to Eagle Dynamics for their inviting initial pricing strategy and gesture. Now, I know plenty of the money pit that is P3D. It's, well... pretty much rebadged FSX. LM doesn't seem to care much for commercial consumers, and it shows. Extra plugins needed for combat, poor performance, poor visuals, subpar everything. Sure, it's updated a little bit for current hardware. Sure, it's got VR now. Sure, it supports higher resolution everything. But it's still fundamentally flawed and they should be ashamed to charge so much for each major release with incremental improvements. Frankly, I don't know why anyone likes it. It's had some of the best simulated systems around for years, sure, but that sure isn't Lockheed's doing. Here's another gripe: performance. Now, DCS is pretty much a box full of wonders, but it is still far too hard and intense to run even at the lowest settings. Am I a cheapskate? Maybe. Somewhat. I'll let it go because "optimization" is a pretty hot topic and I am not bringing it up to ED. X-Plane, on the other hand? They're up to the tenth beta of the release to implement Vulkan, which can increase framerates two-fold or more, keeps it cross platform, and makes it more capable of taking all the graphics enhancements, most of which are free and absolutely stunning (not that DCS needs any). X-Plane _does_ have built in combat, but it's not as fleshed out as the sim literally made from the ground up for it and it shows. So to finish it off: I am not blaming ED for the timing of their extremely kind gesture. Simply how it worked out for me. It's relevant because, as a DCS player, I am a customer of this company and they can't take their product where their community wants it to be if they don't listen (not that they don't). Eagle Dynamics stands head and shoulders above all others in many respects, and they have earned it. I know very well just how far above they are. Finally, why do people always whine at ED? Your people should never be happy. Contentness brings stagnation, and they're not going to be king of the hill forever. Are there standing issues? Yes. Does Eagle deserve some of the flak it gets? Absolutely. Was my comment much too whiny, useless or entitled? I certainly do not think so. What you think of it is another matter.
