DCS World tech tip how to remove black border in VR, eye hmdmask around the edges (openbeta)

VR HMD mask in DCS get rid of it! Quick video on how you can edit a config file in DCS World or Open beta and remove the borders. This does not affect your ability to multiplayer, it gets rid of the annoying black border mask around the edges of the VR preview.

Oh man thank you! This mask over the view has driven me up the wall! I was zooming the view in to remove it from videos of my VR DCS play which sucked because it always removed too much of the view in my opinion. This solution is EXACTLY what I needed. THANK YOU!

Thanks, just tested this last night and it works. However I used "0.0" instead of "0.1".

It's been a couple years since you posted this. Fix works perfectly, but at least in the latest version of DCS (2.9), altering the HMDMask file makes it impossible to get on a multiplayer server (not a pure client).

Good point thanks for the update the mask size now can be changed in dcs world settings under vr.. Remove the mask. Size down

I was subliminally controlled to subscribe :O Could one make a short cut to that file on desktop to speed it up seeming you said it had to be redone every time ?

I thought using the black areas improved performance because your GPU wasn't having to render these areas. Why would you go back to causing your performance to drop by putting these areas back to being rendered?

As far as I can tell it’s a mask which just overlays on top of a view port. I’ll test it out again, but my last test didn’t show much of a difference , none actually, but it could be because im running locked FPS. The mask has to go if you are capturing your flight in vr

It’s still getting rendered but then it’s blocked out by the mask. It’s a dumb thing for them to do this. They must know that people like to record their sessions and throw on KZfaq and this just creates obstacles to doing that effectively.

@@dancormack That doesn't make any sense, though. Before it was done in-game we had a mod to do this - it literally shouldn't render stuff that's occluded by the mask, not just "mask it afterwards".
