@@dIancaster I couldn't, even a fresh install of Pop! was a lot slower than a 1 year old installation of Windows, both used as the daily drive and on the same computer. I also had a lot of problems related to my Wi-Fi connection, the driver just wouldn't install. I wanted to switch to Linux so much so I waited for about a week waiting for the solution (one guy was developing a program for that issue), my laptop was basically unusable for daily work without a cable connection until then. hope you know that, the less ram you gve the VM the less is used, and less processes, now go run a Win10 VM with 1gb ram and 1 core, then look at the ram usage and backround processe ( i got max 50 proceses/500mbRam used, and win is usable) a side note now: write down the processs, then compare them with a bare metal win10, now you know what proceses are not essential for win10 and can get rid of them(if possible)

@@aleksandersats9577 I would argue 2GB RAM is technically usable, but probably only tolerable if running on a fast SSD since Windows will be swapping stuff between RAM and disk much more frequently. Mind you, for Windows 10 20H2, Cortana, and OneDrive have become very difficult to remove. They are getting more and more integrated with into the base OS, so please take care. The reason you didn't see a whole lot of improvement on the CPU front is because with so little ram windows scales back the amount of running processes. If you notice you only have 44-50 running before and after using the debloater script. If you're using x64 with 8gb+ of ram you're looking at ~150 processes. Debloater lowers that down to somewhere around 100 processes making default 0-1% on idle from ~2%.

Also consider using enterprise W10 instead of all the various home versions. I use it for gaming, (it's missing some directx stuff) and it idles at about 500Mb less than W10 home. Also, it's likely you'll have to run this debloater after every big update. They'll turn that stuff back on, and they won't even tell you. They'll also detect that it's gone, and send you a mandatory update to reinstall it or to turn it back on. It's really their OS, there's not much you can do. Registry edits don't stick, they detect them and put them back the way they want them. I think the closest thing would be that group has somehow managed to gut windows 10. Use their version, and make sure you get updates from them. Cause iirc they had to rip out the M$ updater cause it would work against them.

Why are you using Windows 10 Build 1507? This script was designed with the latest build in mind. Also, the CPU usage is not a “windows thing”, if you had done this in the latest build, then you wouldn’t have this issue. Check out Chris Titus Tech’s video on how to do it. Now this isn’t to defend Windows, I’m a Fedora Linux user, this is just a thought I wanted lo lay out there.

My secret to disable windows update is finding all related services in registry and denying all access from "system". That way nothing will be able to bring them back unless you allow system to access them. Keep in mind Windows Defender is an exception unless you find a way to execute regedit as System (it is a CMD command I think)

@@unknown39a29 Oh my God, CTRL-X + CTRL-V and a rename, maybe just a popup disclaimer as a warning that the script is about to nuke your data, what impossible complexity! We'll have to wait for quantum computing to execute such incredibly heavy scripts, but our modern CPUs are not up to the task. Heavens forbid a script you apparently just run once take more than a minute to run, the loss of time would be devastating. Hundreds of countries would explode. Explode, I tell you! Oh, yeah, and that generic disclaimer definitely warns of irretrievable data loss in a common use case. Imagine a headache pill giving 20% of the people explosive, burning, excrutiating diarrhea when they take it for a migraine, and the side effects simply saying "may induce mild side effects." Guess it's all the people's fault who now have to burn their underwear, huh?

Ive used this. Its really nice. And also pretty small in data for all that id does. Its like 350kb or something. less than half a meg. It works and turns off most to all of the stupid stuff that runs at default at a fresh install. It takes like 20-30 seconds. It comes with a premade script that does it all all at once, for you. OR you can use the UI (like he shows in the video) and specifically choose what you want changed. What takes time is looking at what you want to run because it has a thing for the auto, or a thing for the UI. This is a tiny hurdle though. **As a headsup, You may still have to right click on the taskbar and manually turn off other things you dont want running, by hand. Some of these things wont be affected by the debloater, out of courtesy of the debloat programmer, in case you like these goofy things like weather on your taskbar, or cortana search bar, or "people", etc.
