Impressed by the quality of Airfix's recent kits, they put some real effort in, and seem to make great quality kits at pretty good prices.
@dusanbolek8004
@dusanbolek8004 Жыл бұрын
They are trying to make good kits, but their molding technology is seriously lagging behind the competitors. I built Ju-87 1/72, not a bad kit, some clever ideas, but the molding was substandard. Many lovely details in the kit, but plagued with tons of injection residue, way too many connection points to the parts, complicated shapes made from unnecessary number of parts, because Airfix is apparently lacking the technology to mold complex shapes. The front of the Stuka is from twelve or even fifteen parts. Clear parts molding quality is terrible, looks like something from early eighties. I would say new Airfix kits resemble in some ways early Trumpeter kits, but more cleverly designed.

I would say don't bother with airfix ,it's an British company that means they will inovate very slowly. I u want a blast when assembly a kit go for an Tamiya kit(perfect fit) or Hasegawa (superb details)

Your attention to detail, even at this small scale is amazing, David. These "Wooden wonders" were built near my home, and all the woodworkers from the surrounding areas were sent to the factory to make their parts. Excellent job, again, sir.

This model, brings back fond memories of my childhood. In 1987, I buy an Airfix Mosquito FB -VI in a supermarket, in Downtown of Guatemala City, and I painting it ¡with oil paints! But the results was great. Your Airfix Mosquito Dear Plasmo, it's a little miracle. It's wonderful, and the level of realism it's awesome. Congratulations for you and all my respect for your incredible modelling skills. ¡Máster Modeller Plasmo! ¡I Salute You! Greetings for you from Guatemala, The Land of Quetzal Bird, Símbol of Freedom.

The error in the rear bomb bay shape is because the laser scan Airfix did for the model was on an aircraft modified to a target towing role, where the bomb bay was modified for the winch etc. and I guess this wasn't picked up when the moulds were made. Beautiful model though, and I'll be using your video to help with my Tamiya 1/32 Mossie.

Bit of a clanger from Airfix as they were warned about this on various forums when they released the CAD files. I think they did fix it for their PR.XVI box though.

One of the things I appreciate with your videos is that you showed me that I can do this too. I always thought that to do models you need perfectly steady hands and my hands has a tendency to shake when I work with small and more precise things but when I watch your videos I see that your hands also shakes sometimes and you still make these perfect models which gives me hope that I can make models in the future because from what I have seen it can be a pretty expensive hobby and I got enough of those right now

I love your videos and they are the reason I’ve got back into scale model kits again in my mid 40’s. I hadn’t made any since I was a kid and couldn’t believe how much fun I had, especially as I can now afford an airbrush! Whilst my builds will never come close to matching your marvellous creations, I think I’ve done alright for a returning newbie. Thank you again, cheers from Australia!

Great job David! ...my Grandfather was a wireless operator/navigator on the Mosquito with the 100 Group during the War. My favorite WW@ Aeroplane! ...And yes, I've always wondered about the Bomb load being the equivalent of the B17 😆
@kirktravis5780
@kirktravis5780 Жыл бұрын
No wondering. It couldn't. I don't know where this myth came from that the b-17 could only carry 4000lbs but it is just that. The other is that a unmodified lancaster could carry 12000lbs. The lancs that carried the earthquake bombs were heavily modified and lightened by removing gun turrets and crew. Technically a b-17 heavily modified could carry 25000lbs and did with the aphrodite missions( dumbest idea ever) but still packed a huge payload. B-17s often carried only 4000lbs to increase speed range and altitude.

Dear Mr Plasmo, The modified air intake is a master stroke- such a small detail but so important. The bomb bay also makes a significant difference to the final result which will be noticed by many discerning viewers. Another fine example to us all. Regards, Z

7:27 On the bomb bay Airfix got this right... AND wrong! They used accurate 3D scans of a real Mosquito in a museum as the basis for the design, however it was a post-war example which had that area cut down so it could carry a tow as they used them to tow-targets for anti-aircraft training. So it's accurate for that specific mark (TT.35) but for the B.XVI it is incorrect and you fixed it perfectly. I believe Airfix have fixed this in their newer PR.XVI boxing.

Awesome build 👍🏻. I built the old tool 1:72 airfix mosquito in the "tetse" version a couple of years ago, it was a real pig to build, the 2 fuselage halves were warped, and nothing seemed to fit right. After much cursing, fettling, sanding and grinding it ended up looking ok. It didn't have as much internal detail as this version does. I've got a revel 1:32 version to finish off, that also needs many improvements, but I enjoy the challenge.

Well, I’ve given it a go! I bought some wire...0.03, 0.02 and 0.01mm and rewired it....even went a bit further than you, David, as I’m adding in the Cockpit Pressurisation vents....yes, I found a diagram for it on the web! It’s been a learning curve. I added in the bomb aimers kneeling pad, starboard side shelf, the canisters that sit underneath it (one of them prevents moisture build up), fire extinguishers and extra panels as required. This was “scratched” but I’ve now got some photoetch stuff, so the next build will be more defined! My skills with a paint brush, particularly on such tiny details, even when assisted by magnified vision, are not good enough! I probably need to mask off bits in order to get to your precise standards....but you’ve inspired me! The kit, once you sort out the bomb doors and fairing, looks fabulous, superb shape, etc. I’m going to add some motors, wiring, etc to the next build and get the props whirring....just need to work out a suitable stand for it, so that the “in flight” look is maximised! Thank you for your films...absolute gems on their own and a joy to watch.

One of the finest aircraft ever built and you have done it justice, fantastic results. As a competition table model I always fancied doing the one of the aircraft from the 1944 Oslo Gestapo Raid, it’s wing tip was lost to a lamp post that I would use as the model support… Yes that actually did happen, flying down the main street at 15 - 20ft, one of the (unarmed) Mossie pilots claimed a BF109 as it failed to avoid the apple tree while chasing him.
